From talking to colleagues and friends, the view on WFH seems to be like this:

2020: "This is great, why would we want to go into an office at all! Never going back!"

2021: "Am sick of the same four walls! I wonder when they'll open up again?"

2022: "Getting to go in for a few days a week, change of scenery and to meet people"

Only seeing this. Pribably been answered already.

From what we are hearing from the immunology people they think that infection with Omicron for most will confer some immunity against it however long it lasts , and that with vaccination and booster should prevent serious illness.

However again, those who are Immunocompromised, as opposed to vulnerable, have been advised tp be aware, take precautions and test regularly if socialising as they may not be able to either clear an infection pr indeed develop any lasting immunity , and may have recurring reinfection.

This is true though of any infection if immunosuppressed or immunocompromised.

Omicron is still mild for most even this group once vaxxed/ boosted.

    Talking to family and friends..

"2021.This is great. Have just bought a house down the country as wfh the last 1.5 years and am more productive as well as saving the planet not clogging up the roads to the cities commuting , and finally not struggling with high unaffordable rents.

2022. Oh no! Boss wants us all back at work..next week... government appears to be supporting this. What do I do now? "

Hopefully not giving 'Covidiots' or 'Anti Vaxxers' ammunition?

    Unacceptable delay

Pfizer’s pivotal covid vaccine trial was funded by the company and designed, run, analysed, and authored by Pfizer employees. The company and the contract research organisations that carried out the trial hold all the data. And Pfizer has indicated that it will not begin entertaining requests for trial data until May 2025, 24 months after the primary study completion date, which is listed on ClinicalTrials.gov as 15 May 2023 (NCT04368728).

Big pharma is the least trusted industry. At least three of the many companies making covid-19 vaccines have past criminal and civil settlements costing them billions of dollars. One pleaded guilty to fraud. Other companies have no pre-covid track record. Now the covid pandemic has minted many new pharma billionaires, and vaccine manufacturers have reported tens of billions in revenue.

The BMJ supports vaccination policies based on sound evidence.

Does it boil out, to us all been public vaccine guinea pigs?

As noted in the letter, the EMA is publishing all the data, there was also separate trials ran in Europe (that reached the same conclusions...).

The FDA has a unique way of doing things as does everything health related in America (I mean, selling opioids for any minor pain?), we're lucky we live in Europe from a healthcare perspective unless you have a rare disease in which case it's probably the US that is spending money to figure out how to treat it.

Natural immunity against COVID lowered risk more than vaccines against Delta variant, new study says

Unvaccinated people who had previously contracted COVID-19 and survived were better protected against the Delta variant than those who were only vaccinated, according to a new study published on Wednesday.

    However

The study also pointed out that relying on contracting the disease as a strategy to gain immunity potentially carries serious complications, such as hospitalisation, long-term health problems, and death, while vaccines have proven to be extremely safe and effective.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

Three of my children contracted covid over the summer and all socialised frequesntly afterwards.

    They were all vaccinated subsequently.

None of them got covid subsequently, not even omicron despite going out three out of four nights coming up to christmas.

Their friends who were vaccinated but hadnt acquired natural immunity subsequently caught covid and passed it on to their entire families.

Is it okay to post this experience here,is it going against a narrative, I feel liike a subversive lol.

From what I can see, Orla Hegarty has no qualifications in either science or healthcare.

She seems to be on Twitter all day every day. Attention-seeking seems to be her motivation.

How are the case numbers and hospitable doing

haven’t been paying attention since the pubs reopened

    Few other interesting bits:

    "Vaccines don't work!"

During the period analysed by the researchers, the people with the least protection by far were those who had neither been vaccinated nor fallen ill in the past.

But before Delta, vaccinated people who had not previously contracted COVID-19 were better protected than unvaccinated people who had already fallen ill.

After the introduction of Delta, the ratio was reversed.

    "Vaccines don't reduce infections!"

Those that had been vaccinated but never infected with COVID-19 were six times less likely to get it in California, and about five times less likely in New York.

Well that's your prerogative, ned ,but I responded in a similar vein to podges' post because I know these people and more who will happily work remotely and never go back .

Two couples I know have bought houses elsewhere and are now job hunting there in case they are asked to return to the offices in Dublin .

Another colleague of my oh is gone to take over his parents farm up north working a reduced week from there . .

Its not a case of one poster is correct here and another not , whether you 'believe it 'or not .

    Different people/ different perspectives .

I am sure there are some people delighted to return to the office and all that entails too ..no argument there but it's not the only viewpoint .

649 in hospital this morning. Nice to see it continue to drop fast and one might assume we will be in or around 500 by the end of next week.

It's very far from over in the minds of elderly people, unfortunately. I have to live with mine, and I'm booked to go to a nightclub gig in Bristol in a fortnights time. Immediately, severe resistance the instant I mentioned it. Back to doom mongering. I may have to cancel to keep the peace, but I really don't want to. Very frustrating.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,034 ✭✭✭Ficheall

That's awful, Chris. Sorry to hear your parents are putting their health above your evening's enjoyment. Thoughts and prayers.

I was using the NPHET/RTÉ methodology for counting.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,902 ✭✭✭Chris_5339762

I detect a hint of sarcasm in that, but all three of us are boosted so the world is as safe as it's going to be. What can we all do, continue to hide? They're often telling me to go out and make friend and meet someone but when I actually do, they get very panicky because COVID. RTE has a lot to answer for, they are the source of their absolute paranoia.

chris they will have to come around in their own time. Go to the gig but keep your distance for five days after.
