Given that the low birth rate caused in China by the 'One-Child Policy' means that the Chinese government is struggling with care for the elderly, why is Xi Jinping obsessed with maintaining a low death-toll from Covid? Bill Gates is out scaremongering again about the chances of a new scarient, not because he’s a qualified doctor, or highly specialised expert. But because he has a book coming out - which incidentally is being promoted by Dr Tedros, head of WHO. Very impartial altogether from WHO- and it’s not free downloadable information to the public on pandemic prevention, it’s €25. The same WHO we want to hand over full control to during a pandemic if they get their way and Donnelly signs Ireland up to the Treaty. Nothing to see here, love Dr John Campbell’s take on it - who despite not actually being a qualified doctor himself, is infinitely more qualified than Gates to speak on this.

A friend of mine, who is a Covid survivor, ran the Limerick marathon yesterday.

Isn't it mad how practically nobody gets discharged from hospital on weekends during the whole pandemic or in general.

Apparently COVID was an emergency. We feared throughout that hospitals would get overwhelmed.

And yet getting doctors in on the weekends was always a no go.

Outside of my work I know dozens of people , dare I say personally , all badly affected by Covid, but yet you persist with the declaration that that is hysteria ?

Does your limited reality make all of us who worked more outside the home and dealing with the general public , many of whom might actually be over 40( perish the thought !) irrelevant?

Yes I see you finally admit that the vaccines did change the course of disease ..that must have been hard for you .....

So I say as I have done before , that I do agree that the way masks were introduced used and abused was both ineffective and wrong , but that they were used effectively in healthcare once we were allowed to use them by the HSE !

I also agree that young under 40 year olds were generally very less affected by even the original strains, but not to the extent that it was negligible...that is not a fact .

This was always pre vaccine more serious than any other infectious disease both in infectiousness and severity , and to say otherwise now , when we are out the other side of a pandemic following worldwide lockdowns, havoc and vaccinations , is nothing but disingenuous twaddle .

Looking at footage from China, the term covid theatre springs to mind. Given what we know about the virus now, to see workers in haz chem suits spraying streets with disinfectant is bizarre. Also their policy of putting the sick, particularly the elderly in quarantine centres to control the virus is surely exasperating their death rate. All seems very strange but understandable given the regime they live under.

Was bizarre recently listening to Pat congratulate tough-guy Luke on journeying to distant war-torn (unvaccinated!!!) lands with medical supplies. Covid death's were primarily those were end of life patient's, up to 2/3rds of death's according to McConkey

For those not very unhealthy, or very overweight, a test was usually required to know if they had it.

Healthy people with "severe symptoms" were usually easily identified by their views of Covid online.

And the primary cause of excess deaths was our public health experts sending Covid patients to nursing homes. Now do we expect the Covid review taskforce to comment (prosecute) on that, probably not.

Just a recent personal observation: some doctors I know have gone very very quiet now that the media circus has moved onto Ukraine. They can't rationalise how they've been dropped when only a couple a months ago they were depicted as our saviours selflessly saving lives on the front lines. This is causing them to question what has been going on which is great.

From May 2020 I always maintained that the real suffering would start when the economy falls apart.

Think we've entered into the beginning of that phase now.

Monkeypox, similar to smallpox have been found in the UK. Just what we need. They done a rubbish job at any containment with covid, and now there is a virus similar to smallpox. And this is nothing to laugh about either.

In Korea at the mo. They lifted the requirement to wear masks outdoors this week - at a guesstimate, slightly over half are still doing so. Masks still required indoors (not eateries) and on transport etc. Significantly older population hereabouts though.

Monkeypox pops up from time to time. There have been cases in the UK over the years.

It's related to smallpox but it's not well adapted to humans doesnt transmit easily.

I am sorry Goldengirl, I genuinely like your posts but not so much this one. These people have done untold damage in this country! The Covid response in this country was so cultish, so myopic and one sided cheer led by this clowns. One of them wanted to move Christmas to June, put granddad by the window wide open, don`t pass the gravy boat and other such silly nonsense. That clown Kenny wanted to mask 2 year olds!

This was among so much other nonsense he, Ryan and others came out, all unquestioned and worse still given continuous platforms to air such nonsense and no opportunity for opposing or challenging voices.

Now it is turning out that the basics of immunology i.e. airborne virus is coming to pass despite the abuse some got here for daring to suggest such a thing!

I am sorry but the likes of McConkey, Ryan, Byrne, Kenny and their ilk have the sh*t frightened out of a certain cohort of people in this country (I am witnessing this constantly and it angers me) and it is unforgiveable to me no matter what backtracking they do, it is unforgiveable! I hope we never allow such b*llshit and nonsense ever to be tolerated again but I am afraid we probably will.

Yes Covid was absolutely a problem that needed dealing with, and a nasty enough virus (just recovering from it now myself) but it did not warrant the cultish manner Ireland dealt with it i.e. the abuse and division because some were unvaccinated and again cheer led by these media clowns. I`m sorry but f*ck no and never again! I will have always despised and will always despise the religious like reaction and fanaticism to Covid in this country. The true cost we will not know for years.

This is going to be with us along time by the looks of it, thankfully we have vaccines, no doubt treatments will be much better over time but we cannot allow such a hysterical, myopic one sided response to something like this ever again unless it is something like Ebola or other such virus.

If you're trying to defend Sam McConkey, spare us, as this was the man who initially claimed there would be in excess of 200k deaths from Covid. For an infectious disease "expert", this is truly astounding, and how he has any credibility left is beyond me. In my line of work (engineering), if I was out by a magnitude of 3, I would be fired. Why isn't he questioned over this figure he bandied about with aplomb? But no, he is still wheeled out as some kind of sage. Pathetic.
