Its insane how out of touch a lot of people really are. I know lots of people who are still trying to rebuild from 2008 and likely never will. Banks won't touch them for credit for the rest of their lives.

fvck all point dwelling on it. We can rebuild when this is over.

54 covid patients in hospital, 18 in ICU according to Paul Reid

Seems to be a big spike in Cornwall, albeit from a low base. I’m thinking our outdoor only dining / socialising until the vaccines are more complete is looking a very sensible balance.

Why did you wait until Mr Reid told you?

Figures have been updated on the hub, since 11:30am.

Maybe because I've been working all day and have the HSE press conference on in the background....

We can't all be on twitter all day long & I don't recall seeing them on the thread in my brief flick through. I don't recall you posting them if you had seen them since 11:30am. Please do share the numbers if you see them instead of having a pop when someone posts them a few hours later

See where you're coming from but controlled indoor environments have worked in other places

The scary thing is that's very NPHET thinking (not having a go at you btw)

Interesting now how HSE concern is now switching to the usual pressures within the health system, A&E, trolleys etc. A sense of normality is now returning.

They’ve a huge backlog to get through, particularly anything elective. I’d say we’ve a few years of knock on impact of COVID in the health systems here and in most countries.

Ours had huge waiting lists before it began though.

Hadn't checked today, usually wait for the evening update from @roinnslainte don't follow Reid on twitter or have notifications from his posts. Don't need to be on twitter all day to get notifications.

Only fact checked your blunt hearsay post. When I saw it.

If people are desperate to know the ICU figures, just sharing where people can find them.

Didn't mean my reply to be rude?

It has also been a trend on here to see all daily figures combined in one post around/before dinner time (18 Hours).

There's no trend on here, people post information as they come across it. It's been like that since the start.

And yes your post came across as very rude as I simply posted information being given at the HSE press conference which is currently on going as per every Thursday, so not exactly blunt hearsay and you came back with a very rude reply.

At the rate we are going we will have the whole country vaccinated and still be reluctant to return to normal.

Its costing us billions a month. We have 0 deaths in weeks now and empty hospitals.

Is any level of risk acceptable anymore?

Where exactly are you taking that line from?!

We have 31% of adults fully vaccinated and 61% with one dose.

There will remain a lot of unknowable, unknown risks for next few weeks. That’s just how it is.

Another wave of this would be rather more expensive than some sane level of balance for the next few weeks until we get to a decent level of vaccination. We aren’t there yet. We’re neither in the US or U.K. level of rollout. We’re still a few weeks behind.

Engaging with this thread just gives me a headache. It’s just one ratty comment after another.

all of the evidence suggests otherwise.
we are slowly opening up more and more as more people are being vaccinated.

costing us a couple of billion at the absolute maximum, nothing compared to what it would have cost us without control measures however.
billions a day is probably what we would have ended up being cost if we had have followed your way.
Is any level of risk acceptable anymore?

clearly it is, just not the particular level you are looking for, which is quite thankful tbh, given it probably would have ended up costing us multiples more and caused other issues no doubt.

ticking a box on a form does not make you of a religion.

Pfffft sure a few billion is nothing really

I’ve no idea why we have a budget in October

Wasting people’s time with nonsense and waffle about tax and revenue

Public sector jobs for everyone who wants to work and money is irrelevant

Yep, Is it worth living in a world where everything is restricted because there could be variants out there which will be more deadiler than the other ??

Life is about risks. If some people feel unsafe leaving there house then that's there business

Strange move in the UK to try and make vaccines mandatory for care home workers. If the vulnerable old people in the care homes are vaccinated then whats the point. Do the vaccines not work ?

The vaccines work best when everyone has them. Lots of people in care homes would have a weak immune response to the vaccine.

Some people in care homes may be unable to safely be given a vaccine, or have a condition that makes the vaccine less effective.

If I posted my opinions on those who work with vulnerable people and aren't willing to do everything they can to protect them, I'd probably get myself a ban.

The HSE are looking at it as well with unvaccinated front line staff.

We have zero deaths because the system that records the deaths has been unavailable for a month. You knew that of course.

Our hospitals aren't empty. They're not struggling, but we have infections at a management level that means hospitals numbers are coming down.

It's bizarre infatuation that some have with reopening everything yesterday. Also a funny crossover between those who are demanding the right to travel along with having everything opened up.

I don't think you people realise that if we open up completely, case numbers will take off, and regardless of how many we have in hospital, we will find ourselves redlisted by every other country for foreign travel.

We have 15 months of data available. We know that the illness was mainly a big threat to the elderly in poor health.

Now that they are vaccinated, there is 0 deaths and very few hospital admissions.

There is not going to be another wave that involves lots of deaths or hospitalizations unless the vaccines stops working. And there is no evidence of that.

France has a similar rate of vaccinations and cases to us.

Their deaths are running at a little under 1 per million per day.

On that basis ours are probably around 5 per day. About 10% of what they were at the previous peaks.

So not bad but not zero. How many are deaths from Covid or just with Covid I have no idea. Obviously whilst we have hundreds of cases a day some of those people will die.

This could happen with everyone vaccinated. We badly need to differentiate sick people from cases.

We've been reporting hundreds of daily cases for months now and only 50 or so in hospital. Its clear that people are not getting sick anymore thanks to the vaccines in the age groups that matter.

What do you think the vaccine does?

It is not designed to prevent people from catching Covid. It helps to prevent serious illness.

They are absolutely designed to prevent people catching it. They illicit an immune response that produces neutralising antibodies which prevent the virus from infecting cells.
