Can Irish times print map to show how much of a ridiculous outlier in Europe we are

If we are going zero covid route, please announce it.

Have met friends over the last two weekends, all of us vaccinated and stuck outdoors with poor facilities and massive demand. I'd have a lot of sympathy with pubs and restaurants getting grief for not having enough capacity but when it gets a bit cold, plenty of availability. It's a disaster for planning staff, purchasing and means they are trading below capacity.

Case numbers are not important, hospitalisations are.

A delay of a couple of weeks isn't necessary and the general population who feel unsafe can continue to do what they do and not go out for indoor dining/pubs. It's really depressing facing more delays particularly for some businesses who haven't even opened back up yet

Ye should be listening to Ireland AM just now Irish independent journalist on now saying September is what’s in the pipeline for indoor hospitality.
Theyve already started kite flying even beofre this delay is announced!!
    You can’t make it up!

I think we all know that 5th July is hugely unlikely now based on what’s coming out and that essentially means summer is cancelled.

We just don’t do 2 week extensions. It will be at least 4 and then we’ll need to wait until after the bank holiday at least and be cautious about schools.

So September sounds about right for Ireland. Months after the rest of the world.

So that would possibly be indoor hospitality and international travel back on the same day. Can't see Tony agreeing to date.

Expect travel to be pushed out to August.

Time to complain to all TD’s and the EU once again. Ireland will in violation of its rights & obligations as members of the EU.

Because no one believes them anymore . They move the goalposts all the time , and suddenly its two weeks , three weeks , two months . No one trusts them now and unless the absolutely tell the truth they have lost the people. Its getting ridiculous now with them setting dates and levels and timelines which never come to pass
They spent millions on a leaflet to every house with beautiful colourful Levels which were never actually implemented .
Businesses all over the country have spent money , organised , got staff , and filled freezers and fridges and once again are left in complete limbo and anxiously waiting for news with 4 days notice of whether they can open
Absolute shameful from the Government to treat its peopld like that

European countries have far lower cases than Ireland of Covid at this point, despite being more open. What a catastrophic failure from NPHET & Government.
I suppose that’s what happens when the population is indefinitely suppressed. We have people doing their own parties, no antigen testing & if NPHET + Government cannot see it - no problem.
I’m shocked at the acceptance of this delay - this is summer, all metics are good. It’s now or never, and it’s economic suicide in the process if we don’t.

Another one some people keep spouting about is the amount of cases in Scotland atm! Yet there was 17000 at Murrayfield yesterday for the lions match!
But hey we’ll have 200 at a championship game today

Go ahead with this delay and it will be the end for Fianna Fail.

No doubt you’re trying to downplay Ireland’s long and ridiculous restrictions.

Normally I would do whatever I want. Vacation/Staycation or both. And both would involve going to pubs, restaurants and cafes.

So let’s drop the act of pretending it’s not a huge deal that pubs and restaurants are not allowed have people indoors.

Lots of bar/restaurants had planned on July 5th.they have ordered stock in advance.
Another delay means that stock goes off or they cancel the order, which then financially impacts the suppliers.

We are already behind the rest of the EU and the UK. Another delay will hurt our aviation and tourism industries. No tourist will want to visit Ireland in July if there is hardly anything open.
Flights will be packed with Irish people heading to Spain, Italy and the UK.

Oh, it's not ideal, sure, but it's hardly the summer "cancelled". It's like those claiming they're locked in their homes.

I may be downplaying it, and you may be upplaying it, and the truth will lie somewhere in the middle.

You know it actually wont - the sheer amount of people Ive spoken to who are absolutely terrified of delta is scary -all because they are RTE watchers - I would say mainly in the 50 - 65 age group.

Most of them are full vaccinated but yet have said they wont go indoors to a restaurant or pub if they do open on the 5th as its "too dangerous"

Theres a certain type of person that seems to want us locked down forever and it seems to be in the age bracket of FF and FG supporters. Knowing these ****ers they`ll come out of this like heroes.

It really shows how messed up our political system is hen there is no real opposition to what the current lot are at.

Feel desperately sorry for the tens of thousands of hospitality workers ravaged by this yet again. A bureaucratic plaything for politicians and health officials. But it’s their lives. Their job, their ability to pay their bills and mortgage, their reason to get out of bed in the morning. Being on the pup is a grim existence, it’s not something to be jealous of.

But we rob this of them over and over again, after building them up to go back, we callously take it away from them again.

Remember when you’re making your hilarious little joke about pints or wearing jackets, or joyously shouting that you don’t need indoor hospitality, or when you’re saying it’s “just another two weeks”, that actual real lives are affected by this. And they have to pick up the pieces. Not the smart ar*e commentator.

Sadly, you're right. I commented saying FG and Greens because I've seen a lot of comments saying that it'll be the end of FF. FG in particular seem to get a free pass the whole time when it's just as much their fault, they are in government.

    Sunday Indo:

The Cabinet is expected to postpone the further reopening of the country from July 5 to July 26 at the latest, pending the advice of Nphet, the scientific body advising the Government on Covid-19.

However, differences are emerging between Taoiseach Micheál Martin and Tánaiste Leo Varadkar on the issue, the Sunday Independent has learned.

Mr Varadkar has significant concerns about the tourism and hospitality sectors if the scheduled reopening tomorrow week is postponed without absolute certainty about when indoor dining will be allowed and other restrictions lifted.

But Mr Martin is worried there could be up to 2,000 Delta variant cases a day here by the end of July if reopening goes ahead on July 5 — potentially leading to a significant tightening of restrictions in August.

    Beyond embarrassing.

Who cares if there’s 2000 cases. We’re never going to reopen fully if this obsession with cases continues.

I'd have a fair degree of respect for Varadkar on how he had to deal with the initial lockdown.

Unlike what we have now he has a background in medicine and considered the implications for the wider public wrt business.

Michael Martin on the other hand....

The last paragraph makes literally zero sense.
2000 cases = not a problem, given the age profile will be 90% under 35. And why on earth would restrictions need to get tightened in August - 100% of adults will have been able to get a vaccine dose by end of August (if they want one).

Fear. Manufactured fear. We are conditioned to “cases”. Even if a small minority stays fearful of cases, they’ll keep being heard.

Well of the 3 Sunday papers only the Independent mentions 26th, the other two both say 19th. Someone's sources aren't great

If they delay the rollout of the EU digital Cert. Also as it comes in on July 1st in most of EU, are Ireland allowed to quarantine EU travellers coming in here from that date? I not sure they can.

They can delay the rollout of the cert by 6 weeks from July 1st, that's what we're signed up to.

What about Renau or the National Party if you feel that strongly about it. There is a reason most of the mainstream parties broadly support the public health measures. If there was such strong widespread opposition this would be reflected in the positions taken

Id say the IMF will be interested in the mechanics behind the unnecessary economic carnage in the country with Europe’s youngest population but the highest debt added due to covid

Loosing our economic sovereignty will be the only way out
