They’re signed up to the EU digital cert. Aer Lingus & even Ryanair could get into serious trouble or in the case of Aer Lingus, go bust. Many hundreds of thousand of jobs would be lost in the industry. While the workers would be put on PUP further bankrupting our country. Doesn’t make any sense to not implement the Covid Digital cert IMO - it’s a safe & effective way to travel and we cannot afford not to.
That’s not to say what will happen as NPHET & Government are quite frankly behaving like terrified rabbits in headlights over nothing.

Sorry but what purpose does NPHET serve right now? They were useful when we had no vaccinations and how to distance ourselves.

Now? Now they just don't want us drinking in pubs

Travel can if they want be pushed out to 6 weeks from July 1st, they've got the wiggle room from the EU if they wanted it

So if Tony still doesn’t like the idea of travel when the 6 weeks are up ( bear in mind Leo says they won’t go against Tony’s advice) the government will have no choice but to let people travel quarantine free if they meet the certs conditions because they signed it?

We're signed up to the digital cert. It goes live on the 1st July and all countries have a period of grace of 6 weeks to implement

Pathetic stuff. Every adult who wants a vaccine will have one dose in less than 2 months and everyone over 30 will have 2. Every adult who wants a vaccine will have both doses in less than 3 months.

We have way less cases currently than what NPHET projected and they were happy at the time of opening up previously with those projections but now for some reason where we might get closer to their projections they want us to delay reopening. They told us a week ago we had 20% delta variant here and yet here we are cases having barely increased if at all.

At Christmas, they said one or the other, retail or hospitality, and no they haven't been on the money every time. They were way out on the Christmas surge and the case levels up to Christmas, never mind how they chose to view themselves in Irish society, at times.
Largely in the ballpark is a more accurate description and they regularly ducked behind the public "being ahead of us" as a justification for targets not turning out to be as bad as predicted. Yet, it never became a variable in their projections. I'd give them a B+ on performance with an occasional C- on communications.

The UK approach has had a huge bearing on what we do and we have followed them for a good few months. That they are now looking at July 19th is a strong hint how some of NPHET are thinking. Adding in the comments about how many more vaccinations we can do in three weeks the decision does seem to be leaning that way. Whether the 49 in hospitals and the 13 in ICU offset that inclination remains to be seen but as has been pointed out earlier in the thread there is still quite a lot of popular support for the very cautious approach.

Following the UK' is not without some merit. Given that there is no point continuing the status quo once completely unfettered Brits come over the border, another 2 weeks just to get some more shots into arms is probably a defensible stance.

It's the end game now though, for sure. 3 weeks to go.

Not actually up to them, but they have a problem if recommending just extending it through the summer is their plan. Lifting all restrictions will not happen for a good while yet. We'll need to get close to that 70% fully vaccinated.
