Hospital admissions are up 14% week on week. The numbers are small enough that it could be a blip, but it's not nothing. Holohan would be ignoring his duties if he were to fail to point it out.

David Higgins is another one of these spoofers like McWilliams or Hobbs who think that financial or economic expertise carries freely into epidemiology.

Do we know how many of these caught the virus in the hospital or was it the virus that put them in hospital?

Does anyone even listen anymore? All seems. Pointless, it seems the natural transmission is happening regardless of what the cmo says

And that transmission is happening in settings where the CMO recommended the relaxation of restrictions..

    We got him!

Its how he chooses to phrase it

""We are seeing a small in hospitalisations in recent days, coming 10-14 days after the five day moving average of daily case numbers began to increase. we will be monitoring it closely in the days and weeks ahead."

    Job done

Instead he has to get concern in twice in the same tweet

We do and we don’t, the reason he mentioned he was concerned was to get a reaction! It’s been his mantra since the start! He’ll be Forever concerned! No way in any way will he ever say he isn’t concerned. Hence why I think and it’s a small chance, but future restrictions will happen permanently in winter months as it has become the norm and the CMO will be concerned, even though 2 years ago winter 2019 he sure as hell wasn’t concerned.

If it stays at that growth rate going forward, it’ll take approx 5 weeks before we see over 100 people in hospitals. How many will be fully vaccinated in that time?

It’s not concerning in any way!

Is there an age-based breakdown on hospital admissions available?

It will be very concerning in a fortnight or so.

How? We might have a lot more cases but hospitals should be fine!

He is right though . If admissions are flat it means people in hospital for other issues caught covid in there ?

Wonder is he ever not concerned. It be great if he could vary his vocabulary a bit.

I agree with the point you're making and we are, of course, all free to comment as none of us our experts on this - not even Holohan.

We will head down the same route as the UK and open up as much as possible but we'll probably keep the masks and other precautions like social distancing. The country is actively being prepared for this with the likes of Varadkar stating that thousands of cases per day in a few weeks is not the same as January.

The economics of all this will take over.
We cannot keep paying €350 per week to people who should be at work.
The country is a quarter of a trillion in debt now and, quite frankly, we are screwed paying this for covid and the bank bailout for the next 20 years or so.

The vaccines are creating the variants.
If it's the case that a variant is generated (like delta) that render the vaccines useless well. . . . we are back to square one - March 2020.

In many ways it makes sense to give everyone vaccines and then close down for 6-8 weeks to prevent variants and then resume opening.

Considering over the course of 2 weeks (up to 4th July) there has been 6 hospital acuired cases of covid.
So I don't think that has caused the little increase over the past few days.

I'd just like to quote this.

Vaccinate everybody, and then lockdown fully for 8 weeks.

    Amazing.

    The virus evolves.

Studies on bacteria in penicillin environments create identical results.
The bacteria can not multiply and spread in tough penicillin environments until a variant is produced which can.

    Evolution.

I am not recommending it but the double whammy of vaccines with one last lockdown would bring cases towards zero.

It's not a practical solution as people have just had enough.
    I'm well aware of that.

    Let me just be clear.

A changing environment can create variants.

    I'm certainly not anti Vax
Don't be a moron and go out and get yourself vaccinated to protect you and the rest of society.

The Spanish flu of 100 years ago produced many variants ... one of which was particularly lethal to younger people in their 20s and 30s.

The end of this is not zero cases, it’s reduced adverse outcomes due to pre existing immunity from previous infection/ vaccination. Variants will continue to emerge but evolution does not jump straight to a completely different infection mechanism. Pre existing immunity will mitigate most of the adverse events just like all the other coronaviruses that are endemic

I get your point but what of a vaccine dodging variant coming from abroad after we have fully vaxed and shut down? Variants will continue to evolve in countries where there are many cases and a poor vaccination programme. The end is hopefully a harmless very infectious variant?

Holohan must be trolling at this point.

Today's figures are very good considering the expected and much talked about surge.

Concerning…. Would they ever Fcuk off with that, how many are admitted with respiratory symptoms? Or is it just testing positive before a procedure?
