Cohort 9 (People aged 50-59) are supposed to be about 600K. Didn't Reid say today that 26% of them have been done?

    He did indeed
He said 73% of the 60 to 69 group have received dose one, and 26.5% of 50 to 59s, as these cohorts are still receiving vaccines.

Paul Reid is well known for misspeaking when it comes to numbers.

I expect he might have meant that 26% of this cohort have an appointment for this week or would be done this week. Which would make sense as that would be about 130k doses (assuming that 600k is correct)

We may be running out of people to easily vaccinate by September. Perhaps introduce some incentive or bias towards those that are?

Any word on when the 49-40 yr olds will be called to register. Or will they try and get (rightfully) their house in order first and get the 69-16 vulnerable cohort sorted.

Harvard Professor, Michael Mina, doubling down today - referring to Stephen Donnelly's claims that antigen efficacy is nothing more than "propaganda".

    Quite incredible.

Let's hope Professor Mina sticks to this and applies more and more pressure to Philip Nolan.

People on Twitter are easily and often best ignored. Don't know what Donnelly was on about but NHPET are not against them, just people testing themselves and drawing false conclusions. It's not Nolan anyway, it's Ferguson and his task force. They've proposed very specific locations for them. Their report has a link on this page.

I really wish he'd have a private discussion with NPHET and HIQA. See where the similarities and differences of opinion lie than this twitter bullsh1t.

This will get worse by him appearing on some media interview somewhere and doing the very thing he accused Nolan doing of confusing people.

I really regret Nolan sending that ridiculous tweet. We needed to have a discussion on antigen tests and run the pilots. This twitter crap fallout wasn't needed.

More important to know is how many of these cases are vaccinated vs unvaccinated.

Here is some more context, it appears the vaccines are likely to be effective against this variant

That is more reassuring. We also saw those patterns in the start of the second wave. Younger cohorts showing majority of cases at first. Need to watch the evolution of infections carefully. Ideally it will stay consistently with under the 45s.

    Very good to see

Must be grounds in this for early reopenings here esp with Northern Ireland opening up a lot of stuff from the 24th May

We’d need a decent discharge number tomorrow to stop it going over 100 again at the weekend. Looking good to have under 50 in hospitals by the end of the month

I'm sure the video circulating on twitter, from inside a Dublin pub, will help push things along

Also on the numbers in hospitals. There’s only 8 people in Munster in hospital out of that 8 only 1 is in ICU in UHL! Absolutely fantastic stuff.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,977 ✭✭✭TheDoctor

    Hospital numbers at 8pm

Total 99 (down from 110 last night)
ICU 36 (up from 34 last night - no deaths)

    Last Thursday
    Total 123
    ICU 36

First time 8pm daily total is below 100 since 23rd September

I'd find it hard to believe it's today, but if it is, I'm sure the attendees will be able to work out who was filming it behind them!

Some look like they are wearing suits - is anyone wearing suits these days?

So you don't think an expert who thinks a country is being mislead and lied to by its public health experts should voice this publicly? That's a strange stance to have.

Which do you think would be more likely to be effective? He writes to NPHET privately to state he disagrees with them or to voice it publicly so everyone can hear and see, which should further the debate on the matter (he's been on RTE since his comment)? NPHET have supposedly read all the international data on this already as that's part of their job and came to an entirely different professional opinion as Mina so what's a private email going to achieve? As if NPHET would even tell us that they received such an email criticising them.
