Yup-let's see what we got --

    Pandemic
    Ransomware threats multiplying
    Filthy Oceans
    Melting Glaciers
    Drought
    Robots taking over
Food pumped full of chemicals and sugar-->Obesity
    China and Russia causing havoc
    US in a mess
    Overpopulation -->Migration pressures
    Conspiracy theories proliferating

A jolly jamboree of joy I think we can agree. :D
On the plus side of things remote working was rolled out and shown to be a viable alternative to permanently commuting to the office. This has huge potential for clearing up congestion and pollution in major cities. Without the pandemic this wouldn't have been possible.

We don't regularly hear about the actual seriousness of the hospitalisations, that's good to hear - adds a bit more than just numbers hospitalised.

In the big waves ICU gets full and some and people get very very sick and die. At the moment with the population that are getting it now almost nobody is significantly ill. It's so massively correlated with age and comorbidities.

Of course when you think you can get back to 'normal' you have a cyber attack! Couldn't make it up.

Maybe it highlights less need for figures every evening from govt....It might distract/improve people’s mental health...Of course people need awareness but maybe cut it down from nightly...

Or perhaps many decided to leave the intractable polar opposites to their constant sniping and they eventually burned themselves out.

Or even, what is there to say when things are going the right direction? The vaccine threads are now the in place to be.

I think they could give the figures every hour if they wanted. People dont really care any more. Its all over.

That data will be there regardless from the HSPC. The only data of continued importance is hospitalisations and they too are very low.

Looks like NPHET will be thrown to the wolves when the time comes

How could they not see this coming

  • Registered Users Posts: 32,136 ✭✭✭✭is_that_so

Apart from politicians throwing shapes and asking so-called hard questions, it's just a review. The various Dail committees do that on an ongoing basis anyway. NPHET too will do the same. If all they are condemned for is a lack of antigen testing then they've done a good job. In fairness to them a lot of what they advised is hard to argue with even if it seems overly cautious at times.

There's a few boardsies that would argue if NPHET said water was wet.

This is why we , as a society , will learn nothing from this.

How could we of managed this better?

What measures should we put in place to make sure we can manage a future crisis/pandemic?

What were the positives/negatives of using a NEPHET approach to the crisis?

What worked in other countries that we could reasonably adopt?

What part of our culture and societal wants made this harder to manage?

What do we value as a society and what impact do these values have on the politicians (we vote for) and authorities and hence decisions made ? Etc

    ............

Ah no, let’s go after NEPHET and clip their wings. Oh and then we vote out FF and that will send the right message to the authorities that the people will not accept any responsibility for anything and will make sure that the target of their anger bears the brunt of responsibility.

I think that makes their point.

Heaven forbid that anybody would follow advice.

    And heaven forbid someone
    Questions NPHET’s overly cautious approach
    Does a personal risk calculation
Accepts that the virus is of no threat to them
    Etc.

How can one complain about people disagreeing with NPHET and not accept or acknowledge that there are people who will agree with absolutely anything they say.

    Ridiculous and one sided

Ireland's Covid-19 vaccine registration portal will open for those aged 40 to 50 next week.

At last, the end is in sight.

A little longer than that. 9 days for 40-49 then a gap of about a week or 10 days in between. 40-49 expected to start registering later in the week (no date yet)

First/second week of June maybe for 30-39 to register

Coulda would shoulda, can, may, whatever. We had our fair share of those over the last year and some. Now 'realistic possibility'.

Is that the same x% more transmissible as the 'new virus'? Which turned out to be another one of those unfalsifiable statements that never came true in the end.

    Yawn.

What he means is the data on increased transmissibility is concerning, but it’s good that a significant vaccine escape looks unlikely. And we can probably still exit with only a small wave if we’re prepared to extend baseline controls,.

Well I guess that's what he means alright. Especially since you more or less quoted it word for word.
