Any evidence of that? Anything I've read online suggests there's no evidence it impedes creation of antibodies. The only thing I've read was go easy on the alcohol in case you get a hangover and side effects together as you'll feel worse!

I've seen nothing definitive but a lot of medics seem to think a lot of booze does slow antibodies.

Could someone give a brief summary of what was said at the press conference - why are people on here so concerned?
When the CMO is genuinely concerned about a variant the sky may be about to fall in or not! It's what HPHET do, fret.

9 new billionaires out of all this vaccine development!

So you think hes making it up?

Nphet really cant win it seems. If they dont keep us updated on the epidemiological situation they're accused of lacking transparency, and if they do mention anything of concern, they're accused of fear mongering.

He never said and noone has said the Indian variant may escape vaccines.

Yet people are already talking about this very lie.

The fear has been spread, job done.

Dark horizons in a blue sky.

    FFS give me a break.

He needs to go back to what he was doing before covid came.

    That’s a touchy subject..

New scariant could basically put us back to square one - it's bollocks of course, but they want people to believe this and be petrified and stay at home and curtain twitch for another decade at least...

Life will resume. Some people are in complete delusion that life has been changed forever, that people are happy to socially distance, that online has replaced actual socialising. It hasn't. If pubs opened tomorrow they'd be wedged. Its going to be difficult to get bookings for the first few weekends of outdoor dining even.

    Exactly .
And that is why they won't be open tomorrow.

George Lee not exactly dampening worry surrounding the Indian variant, that it is "breaking though and more transmissible than the original Wuhan variant". Between himself and Tony Holohan, definition of glass half-empty mentality with a prevailing air of gloom or "black cloud" around them.

Every cloud has a sliver lining

I took that to be the official meetings , but not the briefings?

    Why would they want that?

This is a problem now when you have people listening to this crap and they will turn around and say sure what’s the point in the vaccine if it’s not working or proven to work against different strains.
Constant fear even after we were told the vaccine should be affective in this case.
A lot of people listening to him only want to hear the bad news , what have they against the hospitality industry when you can see already they are looking or thinking of ways to keep them closed.
They are increasingly sounding like they couldn’t care less if hotels , restaurants and pubs remained permanently closed which is a very strange stance for any government to take.

That quote is inaccurate and misleading.
If people read or listened to what was actually said instead of reading a fxxxing headline and jumping on a bandwagon ....

He specifically said that there was data from PHE regarding a dip in protection after the FIRST dose of the vaccine at 10 weeks , but that 2 doses were shown to be fine .
This is only really applicable until people get their 2nd dose or are fully vaccinated with a one dose vaxx.
England has these results because they have spaced out their Pfizer vaccines doses to 12 weeks , and are now bringing them back to 8 weeks to combat this dip .
It will probably only mean that they will be watching any further increases in this or any variant while the vaccine rollout is going through .
It really is just hysteria and clickbait being drummed up by the usual suspects ...sxxx reporters !

Some people now just want to complain about Holohan.
Yes because he's a control freak ("you'll do it my way") and upset at the likelihood of beginning to lose that control soon so any negatives he can dredge up could delay that happening. He probably has his fortune teller, Nolan, working on his variant crystal ball.

Back on to the emotional rollercoaster I go. Today's feeling is fear.

Seriously Diamonds ,the only fear is that which is being spread by a few here who love to quote rubbish from reporters that they have said in the past are doom mongers .
Why even quote George Lee or that other one from the Indo at this stage ?
It's all just winding people up unnecessarily .
The only dark clouds are the rain clouds which is set to clear a bit tomorrow.
Enjoy your weekend and it'll all be gone next week :)

The UK variant was concerning . The Brazil variant was concerning ,the South African variant was concerning . The Danish mink were concerning
We survived them all without a vaccine and with a vaccine will survive the Indian one .
The negativity is seriously draining at this stage to be honest . RTE thrive on it for some inexplicable reason

I honestly don't know why people bother watching/reading RTE if they find the negativity draining - there are loads of other reliable, factual, sources.

RTE is the state broadcaster, of course it's going to tow the uberconservative party line.

Prefer to watch the HSE and Nphet briefings myself as reporting so biased and poor .
Otherwise , take it with a grain of salt .

I know a lot of people who actually don't want to answer the phone to their parents anymore because the first thing they'll hear is did you see the numbers today or did you hear about this new variant resistant to the vaccines etc.
Sweet Jesus. In case anyone was somehow still under the illusion that there weren't people who really didn't give a f*ck about the older generation...

I think so, but will give it another few days for the HSE website hack stuff to right itself. Though the case numbers were definitely low and the more vulnerable vaccinated, so multiple days without deaths are to be expected around now anyway :)

Where is the prevalence of this Indian variant high? Add those countries to our mandatory hotel quarantine list.

That's the step when concerned. Don't just talk about concern.

A lot of older people don’t read beyond a headline and watch RTÉ exclusively for news so what a lot are hearing is scaremongering .
A lot of older people were nearly locked up for a year and only getting back to some normality now .. so when they hear a Doctor say “ a black cloud on the Horizon “ it frightens them.
Not everyone has the capability of going looking for facts and figures in the appropriate place and only have George Lee to listen to.
