How do colleges calculate QQI points for admission to courses?

Do they go by the number of successful applicants only? for example, 10 QQI places are available, 10 applicants have applied but only 5 have met the required grades and QQI points are then based on that

    or

Do they go just go by the total number of applicants? for example, 10 QQI places are available, 20 have applied, and the points go straight to 390 even though only 6 of those 20 applicants have been successful

    Thanks in advance

It depends on the popularity of the course.

It is the case of A - then yes, only 5 would be awarded on that basis.

However, if there is 10 qqi spaces and 12 apply, then they may take the 12 if there is still space available.
