Imagine the mmmmmeltdown if we sell Diaz and buy Doucoure and Lavia and pack it up for the summer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,304 ✭✭✭Widdensushi

He ain't going anywhere,Salah will be missing in January again also.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,580 ✭✭✭✭Riesen_Meal

No chance of the Diaz to Saudi, definitely not this season anyway, they would want to offer mental money and no one could fill his boots at this stage...

We still need Fab and Hendo replacements yet...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,378 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

Joyce has an article in The Times about the Diaz bid. Apparently they have bid €50m, an absolutely pathetic offer.

The only way I'd consider selling Diaz if they offered £150m+. Make the f**kers pay through the nose.

Edit: if you got £200m for Diaz and Fabhino then I'd go pay the release clause for Garvidol and get Luis or whatever top class DM is available. Then use the remaining budget for Barella or Chiesa depending on whether you think you need a midfielder or forward more.

Is this an attempt to start the super League? Hold all the talent and leave the big traditional clubs behind ? Might take a few more years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,636 ✭✭✭theoneeyedman

Was e ruined someplace they were looking to get into bed with Uefa, with a view to getting teams into the Champions League. Dunno if there is anything to it, but everyone has a price, especially Uefa...

The rumors about Sangaré are correct. Liverpool are waiting for Fabinho to leave and they think they can get Sangaré with that money. There is contact between Liverpool and Kiki Musampa (his agent). May also explain why Sangare has held off other Premier League clubs who I believe cannot be ruled out. I expect everything to accelerate in the next 10 days.

Sangaré has a £32.5 million release clause.

If he only costs 32.5M in today's market, buy him anyway. We need someone half decent whether Fab stays or goes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,052 ✭✭✭SuperTortoise

Where did the Thuram rumours go to? At one stage it sounded like we were interested and then nothing, was it all just bullshit?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,024 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Some of the word was that they were looking at him as more of an 8, where he's started playing more for his club - but then the Szobo deadline caused that move to be escalated, and they picked him over Thuram. Makes sense, as those links died the second we signed Szobo.

Definitely something along those lines afoot. Buying leverage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,024 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Yeah, I'd be surprised if they're not in the Champions League within the next 2 or so years. think UEFA would be only too eager to get their cash in, and there's already precedent for non-European teams to play in the CL anyway, like our own Robbie Keane's Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Could see those 4 teams directly owned by Saudi as being a little imposter cluster to get into the CL, which will help them attract more players and grow their quality and brand, and then likely become a big part of leading a new breakaway Superleague project that's more Saudi focused.

In 2018, Klopp originally wanted to sign Leon Goretzka for the midfield. The player chose to join Bayern on a free transfer and Liverpool signed Fabinho. Now there may be an opportunity to get Goretzka (28) to replace Fabinho.

Tuchel wants to replace Goretzka and West Ham have made an approach which the player has rejected. Bayern are reported to want €40-50M (£35-43M, which is in the same region as the valuation of Fabinho.

Joshua Kimmich (28) is also reported to be available for transfer. He could also deputise for TAA at right back. 😂

Carvahlo scored in Leipzigs preseason game last night.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,489 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

So did Sadio for Bayern. 90th minute goal in a 27-0 win 😳🤣

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,497 ✭✭✭✭martyos121

Jesus, Kimmich would be a dream signing. Can’t understand why they’re willing to let him go but then again, Bayern have a knack for ditching world class midfielders at the right time (Schweinsteiger, Thiago, Vidal).

I don’t think they wanted to let Kroos go but he’d be the obvious exception, no club can resist an approach from Real Madrid.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,945 ✭✭✭dogbert27

I think Kimmich could be sold due to his outspoken support of Naglesman after his sacking and a power play by Tuchel to control the dressing room.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,090 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

Some links to Cheick Doucouré emerging today. Crystal Palace player of the year in the season just gone, but to be totally honest I can't remember him playing in any games apart from our own. Maybe that's a good thing, quietly going about his business efficiently as a holding midfielder. 23 years of age but has 3 seasons of playing 35+ games in a top 5 league under his belt now.

That shortlist for the DM position is getting longer!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,466 ✭✭✭✭BorneTobyWilde

''Sangaré has a £32.5 million release clause.''' One hell of a coincidence, the player we want above all others has a 32.5m release clause, we're so so lucky when it comes to release clauses, all the player we want above all others have them. 🙏

Ha, I know what you’re getting at, but I think outside the PL release clauses have become pretty standard practice. So while most of the players we’re looking at have them, most of the ones we’re not looking at have them too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,466 ✭✭✭✭BorneTobyWilde

Diaz '' so far '' is Keita 2.0 .This season is huge for him, but if it's another season of being out injured then someone has to call it, we need a 20 goal machine on the left, not a player who has 8 in his whole time at Liverpool.

Our form did improve when he came back from injury last season, so you'd have to hold firm and give him his chance this season, no sale !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,945 ✭✭✭dogbert27

For Christ sake he's not Keita 2.0.

He got a knee injury in a game and had a set back trying to return in training.

Before his injury he had 4 goals and 3 assists in 12 games and was arguably our best player in those 12 games.

Keita would injure himself opening a bag a crisps.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,187 ✭✭✭mosstin

In fairness to Keita, it was popcorn.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,289 ✭✭✭✭rob316

You can be absolutely sure we arent signing someone 28 for midfield even with our experience heading off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,090 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

Henderson not playing the friendly today, because of his transfer to Saudi Arabia.

Better win 28-0 to keep Bayern on their toes...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,497 ✭✭✭✭martyos121

This is probably the best sentence I’ve ever read in all of journalism:

”It was 18-0 at half-time before amateur side Rottach-Egern limited Bayern to nine goals after the break.”

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,090 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

Trent playing as the 6 in the midfield.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,497 ✭✭✭✭martyos121

Selling our only two midfielders who play can play as a number 6, so Klopp plays our number 66 there instead to cover for both.

    He’s playing 4D chess.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,090 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

The number 84 Conor Bradley has been popping up as an inverted midfielder at times too - perhaps as homage to the more traditional centre midfielder numbers of 8 & 4.

Formation doesn't look anymore defensively sound than last season.

I know it's only first match pre season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,007 ✭✭✭antimatterx

Henderson done. £12m + add ons.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,508 ✭✭✭✭noodler

    Really silly.

He is worth so much more than that to us.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,497 ✭✭✭✭martyos121

Unless those add-ons involve 300,000 barrels of their finest oil, we’re getting ripped off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,067 ✭✭✭jones

It's such an odd move I'm still not sure how I feel about it. Really thought he'd be a bit part player this season but to leave and go Saudi was not.... expected. 😄

If we reinvest in good players it's great he was clearly on his way down as is fab.

So fab and Hendo go - who are we signing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,145 ✭✭✭Augme

Very disappointed with the news of this transfer on so many levels.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,052 ✭✭✭SuperTortoise

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,489 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

12m is a joke. Just so disappointing all round

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,404 ✭✭✭✭Vicxas

They better have people lined up if they're letting Fab and Hendo go. Madness otherwise.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,497 ✭✭✭✭martyos121

Any fewer than two more midfield signings will be unacceptable now that Hendo’s gone.

Unless Mbappé can play as a very attacking number 6.

Honestly pretty happy with Henderson going

Don't see where he fits in the team at all next year. He's a player who relied massively in his physicality which will only start declining and he's no Milner.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,008 ✭✭✭Mr Crispy

    Gutted on so many levels.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,607 ✭✭✭Damien360

I'm inclined to agree with you but £12m is peanuts, especially from the new Saudi league. We should have got twice that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,403 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

I think we may have to accept a period outside the CL. And by the time we are ready to go back in, the fabric of football may have changed further. End of an era, a **** fabulous era.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,739 ✭✭✭giveitholly

Do u honestly think keeping Henderson and Fabinho would nearly guarantee champions league next season. They are the reason we didn't get it last season with their poor form. Both players are in serious decline so now is the time to move them on. Exciting times ahead

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,024 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Same exactly. A real downer as a Liverpool story, a football story, and a broadly general life story.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,403 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

The 2022 team is being broken up

    Mane

    Gini

    Origi

    Milner

    Henderson

    Fab

    Keita

    Bobby

    Ox

Virgil has been creaking, Thiago is older again and injury prone, Salah another year older too

What are you excited about, exactly? I’m not saying we’re going to collapse to dust, but a full on rebuild is underway now. And Utd are about to be bought by a wall of money; City and Newcastle are inevitable; and Arsenal have come through the other side of their long sallow period.

People are fooling themselves a bit if they don’t see a long hard period ahead.

It’s not about keeping any of these players as the right decision, more that we are letting a lot of proven winners walk out the door and we don’t have the means to replace them. We are regressing quite sharply and obviously.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,739 ✭✭✭giveitholly

But the 2022 team was on its last legs and needed to be broken up and a rebuild is needed. Granted it should of started at least last summer. We have Allison,Konate Gakpo,Diaz, still plenty of years left in Salah. Hopefully Nunez hits the ground running as well.

Two new exciting signings already for midfield. Let's see who they get to replace Fab and Hendo first before we throw the towel in

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,508 ✭✭✭✭noodler

    Interesting strawman.

Do I think keeping Henderson increases the chances of CL? Yes, I absolutely do.

Blaming Fabinho and Hendo for no CL last season is ridiculously simplistic. Our new attacking options didn't gel, the defense creaked and we just didn't have the bodies in midfield.

Incredible how having both Hendo and Fab in 2022 guaranteed got us two trophies, a CL final and 2nd place in the league but a year later you can't see any redeeming reason to keep them.

Anyway. We need 2 or 3 midfielders now and then Klopp needs to integrate them.

Hendo a massive loss becuase of his experience, leadership, presence. Perfect for coming on on 60/75 minutes. The thing is, with FSG's track record there is no guarantee they will buy more players. They've done it/not done it before. As others have said a minimum of 2 is logical but we could skimp and just buy 1, assuming Fab is off as well. And there is a defo a non-zero chance we dont buy any, and Juergen is wheeled out to say to the press he is happy with a smaller squad.

So let's see what happens and cross our fingers that sensible signings are made.
