    Too much backing off

It is alright. They checked McConnell's studs up slide tackle for instance.

    The youngsters have been fantastic.

    Is MacAllister ok?

    Just completely rested?

Apparently precautionary after a few heavy challenges in the Fulham game.

Quansah is just so good. The assured little touches he takes under pressure are unreal for his age.

Looked like a lot of catharsis for Grav there

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,349 ✭✭✭Zak Flaps

Conor Bradley is an absolute gem.

Happy for Grav, has worked hard today.

Bradley involved yet again, peach of a player.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,098 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

A goal and 3 assists from players 21 or under. Some going.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,518 ✭✭✭✭noodler

    Three first teamers back.

    Good win.

Reasonable home draw for round 5.

Seems like good prep for Wednesday

Norwich held out fairly well until that Gravenberch goal. Good run out for the young lads. On to bigger things on Wednesday. Squad very very strong now.

Gomez and Jota were the only outfield starters over 24, that's a great sign

Bradley MOTM, absolutely great game. McConnell can be very proud of himself too

Lots of positives. The two goals against were a bit annoying but not worth dwelling on. Gakpo was the only negative really, just far to passive, and has been for a while now

    Very good win.

A few players back seemlessly into a team thas so many up and coming players, young players that have already made a name for themselves and a lot of seasoned players that are playing as part of a well tuned team. The signs are good in so many ways.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,899 ✭✭✭✭klose

Fun game that, no injuries and some good goals and good run outs for a few squad players as well as minutes for returning players. Almost unfair Bradley has to come out of the team now Trent is back, that kid is special.

Easy enough day at the office on to Chelsea during the week now

Celebratory. Hopefully that's the atmosphere the whole way through the season now, best way to deal with the news

Jota with 12 goals in 23 appearances in all comps.

This special team this season. We've had our share of injuries but every single player has stepped up in their absence.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,098 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

It's Klopp's song.. we'll be hearing a lot of it in fine volume over the next few months!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,749 ✭✭✭giveitholly

Curtis Jones has more goals/assists so far this season than the whole of the midfield last season

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,512 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

He always has been. To be fair to him, he's a proper football fan, loves all aspects of the game

It's I'm so glad that Jürgen is a red, belted out

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,098 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

He seems a lovely fella as well. Did a great interview with Second Captains a few months ago, just comes across as a properly decent fun guy.

Norwich boss is interesting, he has never had a good squad to work with, took Huddersfield to PL though, then stepped backwards in his choices of clubs. Would be interesting to see him in an established PL club.

Reading a few comments on twitter today (so take with a pinch of salt) but it seems he's not very popular with the Norwich fans

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,098 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Was not well liked at Schalke either, and presided over Young Boys failing to win the league after a run of 3 titles in a row.

i don’t think any established PL clubs will be going anywhere near him any time soon.

Such an enjoyable season this season. No matter where it ends up but hopefully with some silverware. Can't remember a time when so many young players are coming through as well. A pity Klopp won't be around for it but you can see why he feels the club is in a good place for someone else to take over.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,518 ✭✭✭✭noodler

More than Thiago, Hendo and Fabinho alright (not more of we include Jones in 2022/2023 as well!)

The Europa League and League cup are really helping our stats this season.

Like Jones only has 1 PL goal and 1 PL assist out of his total of 8.

DRC 1 nil up against Egypt. Be nice if Egypt go out tonight and Mo can just recover in his own time.

Edit. Balls. Egypt equalised. Soft peno imo.

I really think if Egypt can get knocked out of this , Salah will be back quicker than is expected.

The way the young players come into the team and just play with such confidence is brilliant. There's been so many youth players who have been just dropped into the side and have played their natural game, didn't hide etc.

Klopp has given 54 players, under the age of 21, their LFC debut (it's 86 overall, and 42 have been teenagers).

Klopp has never been afraid to use young players, has given them lots of confidence, even if they were not of the required standard.

Trent, Gomez, Jones, Solanke, Elliott, Neco Williams, Rhys Williams, Kabak, Kaide Gordon, Bajectic, Carvalho, Bradley, Quansah, Gravenberch have all had prominent roles in his first team squads while under the age of 21 with plenty others have appearances scattered throughout. He even played Tyler Morton as a holding midfielder in big games away from home during a PL title race instead of calling games off with COVID absentees.

So many of them just came in and played their natural game and had that confidence to just ping passes or go on mazy runs. Bradley looks at ease in the team after over a handful of appearances, Bajectic looked like the best midfielder at times last season, Quansah looks like a seasoned pro in his first starts and has so much confidence that he is publicly calling the manager to give him more games. Trent became a world star.

In a way, Trent being that world star also gave us the Harry Kane problem. It was very difficult to buy a back up who was content being a back up, but have enough quality to fill in when needed. Many of us thought that Neco Williams would be that person after lots of good performances early in his Liverpool career. It wasn't under later on that some of the defensive frailties were exposed but Klopp gave him plenty of opportunities and never threw him under the bus if something went wrong. Neco ended up moving on and that's sound. He got a nice move because of his early impressive displays under Klopp.

Bradley really impressed today and he hasn't looked nervous at all in his games that he has played so far. Is he better than Neco? Time will tell and it's unfair to make long term assumptions or expectations on him yet. He is not afraid to put in his attacking charges down the wing, or hold his position high up the pitch. He's not just passing sideways or backwards but really is attacking the opposition goal. Similarly McConnell was trying threaded through balls and weak foot lofted passes. The confidence to even think of them, let alone pull them off on your full debut for the club!

It's a running joke against Klopp that he is just hugs and passion, but those arms around the kids before they come on the pitch and they are smiling and relaxed. They work! These guys are been given a massive platform and it's one thing that's going to be severely missed when Klopp is gone. That man management is second to none. A lot of those kids have not had top level careers but all can say that they played for Liverpool in the PL, in the San Siro, in the Champions League etc. That alone gave them big boosts and I'm not confident that many other managers can relocate that, especially if early in their career where they might focus on short term wins.

Are all these youth players coming through now because of the changes to the youth set up around the time Benetiz left?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,164 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

Without knowing for sure, I'd say it's changed a couple times again since. With a lot of different staff changes since.

Benitez, Hodgson, Dalglish, Rodgers were all manager of the senior team before Klopp came in as manager. Each have had their own differing style of play, and attitudes towards working with academy players. None of them had longer than 2.5 seasons since those academy changes. Trent, Jones, Neco and a few others came through the system even while having these upheaval. But the initial crop was the likes of Branagan, Woodburn, Randall etc. those are the Benitez-changes graduates really I would think.

Under Klopp there has been a uniformed approach, consistency with style of play and clear pathways to the first team.

This current crop (Quansah, Beck Bradley, McConnell etc) are probably the first group of players to have joined the club and only had Klopp as the senior team manager. They've had a clear vision of the type of players they were going to become and where they will fit into the senior team. They look like players who are being coached to play as a Klopp player from a young age. For example Quansah with his front foot defending and big cross field passes, Bradley up & down outside position as a very attacking full back. McConnell quick in the tackle, and quick in the pass in midfield.

    Egypt game going to penalties!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,098 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Egypt out - sad for Mo, but ultimately good for us, particularly with none of the responsibility of it on him.

    Egypt out!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,799 ✭✭✭Ken Tucky

I'd say he will be fit for Wednesday now

Seriously though, they were some of the worst penalties I've seen.

    Both keepers must be brutal

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,188 ✭✭✭mosstin

Thought there were some excellent penalties but the goalkeeping - especially Egypt's - was poor.
