Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Well we can see why City are conceding very little shots never mind goals. Very compact and in your face in the final third, there's no space out there. Front 3 and midfield can barely get a touch before being pressured by at least one if not two or three players. Need to change what we're doing.

Alisson with an important block at the end there, he was also the one dictating our passing tempo for most of the half which isn't a great sign.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,056 ✭✭✭SuperTortoise

    Terrible, no energy.

Naby on and gomez or Tsimikas on at RB, we've got to take more chances with the ball.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,694 ✭✭✭✭machiavellianme

Alisson isn't doing too badly. Nervous at the start but has grown into it. I'd agree with you about the 10 outfield players though.

Gini having a sh1t time at PSG, cheeky January bid?

Seriously though are the players afraid of passing it forward.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,205 ✭✭✭fyfe79

Completely over-run by City in that half. Unsure how to fix it, though surely Milner needs to come off as he's on a yellow. Maybe play Tsimikas there, but that's a gamble too considering it's not his natural side. Hendo and Jones have been really poor, Hendo especially has been uncharacteristically sloppy.

We are always cagey against City the last few years. We miss a midfielder able to break the lines. Jones may be this in a few years time, but you can see he is a young player in a match against City.

I also feel it is a tactic to have our fullback sit back against City. They are nowhere near as attacking as against other teams. As much as we like to talk about Pep's ghosts, I think Klopp carries more than a few scars from previous losses against City.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,056 ✭✭✭SuperTortoise

Thiago would probably go a long way to solving that problem in midfield today, Gini is a massive loss though.

    Get Firmino on.

    Guardiola hates him.

    Milner off.

Can Robbo play RB just for a half?

We can't get near them..hopefully Klopp goes through them as there is no intensity.

Haven't noticed Curtis being so bad because Henderson has been dreadful.

Anfield sounds like a morgue due to that first half display

People saying to me 'if City had a striker...'

If they'd a striker, they'd not control things like this with 5 midfielders 30 yards out.

The false 9 system under Pep is flawed in this way unless you've Messi.

They've been absolutely brilliant, but you sacrifice a goal poaching machine in this system.

This is a copy of the PSG-City game, except we're a bit worse than PSG.

need a couple of players to run at City..it's too easy

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,799 ✭✭✭Enzokk

The one positive is it is still 0-0. City will have lots of bad memories of dominating a match and not scoring and it coming back to bite them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,711 ✭✭✭Speak Now

Kind of like look over there after his own teams 1 point from last 2 home games.

I've never been so happy to get to half time at nil nil.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,114 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

Everyone wanted Jones to start but he has been anonymous. Quitest player on the pitch.

Need some changes and I would start in midfield. Bring on Keita. Maybe Bobby too.

Surely can't be as bad 2nd half. Hopefully Klopp works his magic and they come out firing. People calling for HT changes but we know he never does that. He'll give them a chance to redeem themselves. Would be great to schnake a 1 nil win with a slittery goal.

Ya I think the game is set up for him, he'd hold it up. Get in positions to receive and where he cause them a headache. Milner is in dangerous territory against Foden now too. You'd expect Jurgen to give them a good rollicking and have a response after ht.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,395 ✭✭✭✭Utopia Parkway

Bobby on just to see if he can hold the ball up.

Prob have to take Milner off. He’s on a yellow. Try and get someone to drift over and fill that hole in front of our RB.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,396 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

Milner off, Henderson into RB and Nabby into midfield maybe.

Bobby on for Mane or Jota then?

Absolutely. It's not Fifa, and klopp doesn't really make changes, but we need Bobby helping out the numbers in midfield as a minimum, sowm sort of a diamond 4 in the middle, and possibly Gomez (I admit a bit of a square peg) at RB. He's tended to do well there against City over the years, certainly had the hex over Sterling who always appeared afraid of him. Milly can't carry that yellow and be effective for 45 more minutes.

Pep seems to have got our number since those helter skelter 4-3 and two 3-1 games a few season back. He now keeps things so much more compact between his back 4 and midfield 3 so when every we get possession our attackers are closed down instantly and their ball playing midfielders can really thrive getting the ball back quickly knowing our defensive line is going to be quite high as soon as they can lift their heads to have a look forward! It's a set up Klopp hates playing against, Chelsea done it to us in the 1st half a few weeks back too...Klopp loves it when the top teams play aggressively with their full backs bombing forward creating spaces behind. We really need to change it up here...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,510 ✭✭✭✭noodler

I'm also a bit unsure if personnel changes will do it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,081 ✭✭✭Fromvert

Something will need to be done at RB at some point, Milner can't be left out there for the full 45 if the game continues as it is, he'll either be sent off or cost us a goal. He's getting roasted and out of position. Gomez has the speed and defensive ability to keep up with Foden. But everyone needs to pick it up

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,395 ✭✭✭✭Utopia Parkway

No changes by the look of it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 493 ✭✭BobHopeless

    Jesus Milner still on 😮

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,495 ✭✭✭✭BorneTobyWilde

We need to push up, be brave, our high line was no where in first half

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,843 ✭✭✭✭yourdeadwright

Against Brentford in particular he was terrible off the ball tactics wise and todaya its just veen amplified

Like a dog who tries to chase every car that drives past and gets stuck in the middle

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,395 ✭✭✭✭Utopia Parkway

A shot on target at least.

That's a sickening Stat to dominate at home. Fewest touches and all Liverpool players apart from Grealish

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,105 ✭✭✭mada999

never seen city with as many back

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,009 ✭✭✭✭FixdePitchmark

I think this is the first game we have seen - that we know we have not improved our squad much - the fundamental problems are still there. Early season too - what will be be like mid winter.

Jota getting into the game, finally

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,105 ✭✭✭mada999

looks like Jones' is screening De Bryune's runs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,081 ✭✭✭Fromvert

Foden in midfield KDB through the middle and Grealish left, seems mad for Pep to change what was working so well

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,694 ✭✭✭✭machiavellianme

Tsimikas would be useful for this free kick. He has a decent cross.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,539 ✭✭✭✭retalivity

NBC feed is far louder than the Sky one, the fans were pretty vocal for the whole FH.

  • Administrators Posts: 54,123 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

Jota made a great run there and absolutely nobody helped him.

Mane should have been busting a gut to get forward!
