Yeah, no problem with Kane and Son to be honest, Kane’s the best striker and top scorer in the league, and Son has 17 goals and 10 assists in what was a disjointed and defensive team.

Would definitely have Mo ahead of Foden every day of the week though. Foden seems like he might be in with a proper shout next year, but for this year... it’s genuinely preposterous to have a fella with only 15 league starts named in the team of the season - especially over a lad with 20 goals from wide.

Classic case of Mo setting the bar too high for himself... the single most underrated player in the league, even by some of our own fans. Should go down as one of the greats in the PL.

Salah is only going for a third PL golden boot in 4 years. Nothing to get too excited about :)

Elliott and van den Berg have returned from loan.

They can be recalled to the Liverpool squad under exceptional circumstances that would rule out Elliott.

However surely our CB crisis would be considered exceptional circumstances and van den Burg could and should be called into the squad.

The lad was pretty impressive at PNE by all accounts and could probably do a job in defence right now.

I was looking at their results and formations a while back when we signed Davies. Van den Burg was being played at right back

Yes he played right back, right back of a 3 and right side of midfield in a 343.

Someone said it in the Utd thread but, as class as Foden is shaping up to be, recency bias plays a part in these things.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 736 ✭✭✭Doff

I think its more Carra taking every chance he can to try show he's "not bias" towards Liverpool. Same with his commentating, we get it, you're impartial.

A lot being made of Ole's team selection for Leicester and Liverpool games.

Unless he puts the entire U-23 team out against Leicester we can't really complain about what the selection is.

If we held out against Newcastle and Leeds we'd be in a better position.

Also we should never be losing to Burnley, Fulham and and Brighton at home.

This season has been abnormal since the turn of the year. So many points dropped at home that normally doesn't happen, i.e. loss to Everton, draw with West Brom.

Hopefully we go in to next season with a fully fit squad.

Its depressing when you see how bad both Fulham and Brighton have been this season! Brighton took 5 points of us for god sake...

I wonder have the club considered Neves as a replacement for Gini?

If Wolves were still interested in Origi (who I think would do very well there) maybe some sort of deal could be done.

Everybody ups their game against the champions. Add to this that there were no fans in Anfield roaring us on, a couple of these teams played without fear and caught us out.

Fans back at home, less condensed season, a few new faces and we'll be a better team next season.

And Fabinho has to play midfield and not CB....no matter what.

Absolutely no issues with whatever team Utd put out tonight.

Saying that, Leicester have been pure ****e lately so it might not matter anyway.

UTD have to play twice in 48 hours, oh they are gonna LOVE that

Where Liverpool can have a legitimate complaint is that only for the United fans getting the first game called off they would likely have played their strongest team against both Liverpool and Leicester. Now Leicester will likely get the United reserves/subs while Liverpool get the first team. Unless Ole somehow puts out a strong team this evening which is doubtful.

Only made one team of the season since he arrived at Liverpool which is mad really.

League goals he scored in those seasons, 32, 22, 19 and 20 (with 4 games left).

I'm expecting Keita to do a Dave Beasant with a jar of salad cream or something similar.
During the 1993–94 season Beasant sustained an unusual injury when, while making a sandwich in his kitchen, he dropped a 2 kg glass bottle of salad cream on his foot,[8][9] severing the tendon to his big toe.[10] As a result, he missed eight weeks of the season

I see Swindon are thinking of appointing Robbie Fowler as manager. Some of you younger lads may not remember him but he's out managing a team in East Bengal at the moment. I wouldn't be able to find East Bengal on a globe let alone consider working there. He always struck me as having a very strong work ethic, I mean I think he made a fortune in property so unless he lost it all, he obviously still likes earning money.

We still have to play WBA and Burnley again, already dropped 5 points to them.

Leicester strong favourites in market, it's like a betting coup, people in the know know something.

Ole actively mentioned a few kids names that he’s gonna give time to tonight.

Think Utd still have a chance though, if they play the stronger players that didn’t play Sunday - Van de Beek, Matic, and Cavani especially. You’ve always got a shot if you have Cavani up front.

If he doesn’t start Cavani though, it really feels borderline like taking a dive.

    No Cavani :(

Only played 25 minutes the other night, so that's a fairly shocking decision.

The team would suddenly look a lot more threatening if he was in for Anthony Elanga.

Elgana is on the wing with Greenwood up front I believe.

Surprised at the lineup given it's their best chance of the title in nearly a decade. Even if catching City is highly improbable.

Leicester should win this game with ease.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,420 ✭✭✭✭Utopia Parkway

Again I was very surprised (maybe I shouldn’t be) that Liverpool didn’t object to how the United game was rescheduled last week. Was plainly obvious what would happen and it hands Leicester a significant advantage in playing practically a reserve side.

The difference in impact is so vast that you just shuffle things to make that change. Greenwood has played from wider plenty of times. Cavani, as someone who only played 25 mins on Sunday, absolutely had to start.

Game is looking a fix, hope City now lose their last 3 games but still win the league, while United kick themselves for throwing a game that could have won them the league had the won it.

It's not United's fault. They have been left with no choice but to rotate and we would have done the exact same thing if roles were reversed. This lies firmly at the door of the Premier league. How can they talk about integrity of competition after scheduling games like this

I think we'd have gone weak vs Villa and stronger vs the teams with something to play for

Horrible f*cks but I suppose if we were in their position be doing the same thing. Their fans might throw another wobbler Thursday night

It's not the PLs fault either. It's the United fans who got the orginal game postponed that caused this.

For all we know the PL asked West Brom to swap the Sunday game with United and they refused because they wanted the full week between games to help them survive relegation.

If this was a CL Semi they'd be full strength, this is their 2nd game in 16 days, and people need a rest... this borders on throwing a game.

If we don't make top 4, it's got nothing to do with United's team selection tonight, we've had plenty of opportunities in the last few months to get the points needed for top 4, but, we haven't been good enough. There's no reason we can't beat United ourselves on Thursday, unless of course we're not good enough, which is the real reason everyone is pissed off, because we simply haven't been good enough since Christmas.

Yeah you keep saying that over and over and over, alright.

Like I think people know this already but it's not the point in this case.

If Leicester win it makes it tougher for us to get top 4.

But you never want UTD to win..... this is a real conundrum

  • Registered Users Posts: 448 ✭✭Seaba

If the games were reversed and Utd were playing us tonight and Leicester on Thursday, would they have put out the same team as tonight?

    I seriously doubt it.

    Great chance there for Rashers....

Donny hasn’t shown much again tonight.

If it was the other way around, I would want us to **** over United like this too.

It's hilariously petty and I actually admire it.

That being said, could they not just get a scabby peno like they normally do?

City deservedly Champs....ye will never know how costly it was not to sign a top CB at Christmas to replace Van Dijk....
As a Utd fan I look forward to a cracking game on Thursday night.
