I’m saying if I’m Southgate and I’m worried about his defensive capabilities well then I would look at the option of playing him on the right side of a midfield 3. There’s always been talk of him moving there eventually as that’s where he grew up playing but he’s not needed there at Liverpool because our attack is set up for him as a RB where as England’s isn’t. I think Trent in midfield would provide you with just as much if not more than Ward-Prowse or Mount who will probably play that role.

I think it would be madness to pick Trent in a position he doesn't play, on the basis that he should be just as good as someone else, with zero evidence or experience. You can't just parachute him in on a gut or expectation.

I also think it would be madness not to bring him as one of 3 full backs, for what its worth.

RB lining up Kabak to replace Konate.

Awoniyi who joined the club in 2015 has finally been granted a UK work permit after 6 years trying to get one and will probably now be sold in the summer.

    Hodgson announces retirement.

His last game is against us. He really hasn't done us any favours with that announcement.

Palace will be more fired up now.

Jaysus, we seem determined to make excuses for not winning two eminently winnable matches. There are narratives everywhere for many matches. The best teams ignore them and win. If we win our two games, we'll deserve CL football. If we don't, we won't have - I'm ok with that.

Overthinking it but Kane announcement can't exactly be good for Spurs hopes against Leicester on last day.

As he'll be gunning for Golden Boot and all his buddies will probably want him to have it, I don't think it'll have a particularly strong negative impact.

Sky just put up the England squad on screen and I couldn't believe Trent wasn't there. I thought it was just tabloid speculation. Then I realised it was the cricket squad.

Fulham draw with United, Sheffield beat Everton
West brom almost draw with us, all these teams have no pressure on them now, Burnley is same.

What pressure did Burnley have against Leeds?

    Draw or Leicester win.

I would really like Leicester get CL but of the 2 Chelsea have the easier games

Have no idea what the best result for us is here but I think Chelsea will win it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,627 ✭✭✭eigrod

It really doesn’t matter too much the result here. No matter what the result is, if we beat Burnley tomorrow night, we go in to final game v Palace (at home) in 4th place.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,902 ✭✭✭Girly Gal

Best result for us is a Leicester win, but, Leicester have already beaten Chelsea twice this season, so it's hard to expect them to beat Chelsea a third time, especially so soon after the cup final. I'd take a draw right now. It's more important that we win our 2 remaining games as that will virtually guarantee top 4 regardless of tonight's result.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,480 ✭✭✭✭Utopia Parkway

If Chelsea do win tonight it's possible that 4 points will even be enough for us IF Leicester fail to beat Spurs on the last day. Think we'd overtake Leicester on GD.

Anyway best just win our last two to be sure.

looking at the table, leicester win is prob optimal from a liverpool POV.

    lei win draw che win
    leiscester 66 69 67 66
    chelsea 64 64 65 67
    liverpool 63 63 63 63 * w/ game in hand

thats not looking at the last fixtures though. after this game all these permutations will get a lot easier. :pac:

    Best outcomes
    Leicester win 3-0
    A draw
    Chelsea win 4-0

Hope Leicester win, I think we'll need a cushion

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,521 ✭✭✭✭y0ssar1an22

i know ye prob dont care for a utd fan posting here but i love trying to work out the various scenarios

    assuming liverpool win last 2:

    lei win draw che win
    liverpool 69 69 69 69
    chelsea 64 64 65 67 * w/ game in hand
    leicester 66 69 67 66 * w/ game in hand

chelsea last game away to villa
leicester last game home to spurs

chelsea win would be the worst as then its not entirely in your hands as GD will play role

3 goals ruled out by VAR for Chelsea between the cup final and the first half here.

    Rightfully so too.

What happens if Chelsea finish 5th and win CL. I assume they won't take the place off the 4th place team?

    Nope. All 5 teams qualify.

In the best interests of English football so, I think City should let Chelsea win the CL :)

once there is no national protection for chelsea though!

what happens there does anyone know?

    Here are the possible permutations:

    553480.jpeg

    553481.jpeg

So a Leicester win or draw is best.

Chelsea winning would mean going in to the final game with a min of a 2 goal advantage on Leicester. That'd be will be plenty imo

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,902 ✭✭✭Girly Gal

If Chelsea do win it would be no harm if they won by 2 goals or more to widen the goal difference gap, of course we could get the finger out and win one of our games comfortably for a change

Currently the worst result we could hope for
If Chelsea are gling to win here we want then to dent Leicester goal D some more

    Who says we win tomorrow?

    Who says we win tomorrow?

The whole discussion is assuming the last 2 games are won. Obviously dropped points in either changes things massively.

To be fair Spurs will probably beat Leicester on the last day,
So we could come. 4th even with a loss tomorrow

Leicester still in Wembley by the looks of it. Shame.

Nothing changed really.... We win our final 2 games and we've CL football unless Leicester batter Spurs which is hugely unlikely

Well a good hammering by Chelsea is in order now.

Is this the same spurs that should have beaten them at home in the reverse fixture?
You can never rely on Tottenham Hotspur to beat anyone apart from themselves. That's the only spursy thing that spurs team knows how to do.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,578 ✭✭✭✭noodler

Yeah, if we win tomorrow, then the GD difference is 3.

It's hard to see Leicester beating Spurs by 3/4 more than we beat Palace but obviously we've our own problems to look after first.

Hoping now for a couple of more Chelsea goals.

    Plus 2 now.

    Come on Leicester

Ideally another goal in tonight's game would make things more straightforward for us, but, it looks like a 1 goal win for Chelsea which is the worst result for us. We'll probably struggle to two 1-0 wins, so relying on Spurs not to lose by 3, the only thing is Spurs are well capable of losing by 3 clear goals!
