How can Jota be offside from Milners shot, when the shot was cleared by a Real player? It's to the clearance that Jota runs to get the ball, and then gets taken down in the box.

Was thinking the same thing. Real defender cleared the ball so Jota is not offside. Should have been a peno.

Not sure what the offside flag was for... it was raised very early (if it was for something after the shot), which they don't tend to do. Was the offside they flagged for actually for something before Milner's shot? Would need to see a longer replay. That would make more sense though.

Flagged the second Jota touched the ball.

He was in an offside position, but the ref should consider him not to have gained an advantage because a defender deliberately played the ball.

Once the flag went up the ref is generally gonna react unfortunately. In their interpretation, the offside offence occurred before the challenge, so its not gonna be looked at.

Seems like Liverpool weathered the storm anyways, in the first half. Grew into the game and then created their own chances before Madrid started to kill the game and momentum etc. Regroup and go again next half.

The switch of dropping Gakpo back into a midfield 3 has somewhat helped.

Happy enough all things considered. Trent has settled after a brutal enough first 10-15. Ali is just fantastic. Our midfield is not getting destroyed, Gakpo doing a lot of running and covering. Jota - I wish he had a few more games under his belt, seems a bit off the pace.

Hopefully we score first, just to make it a bit more interesting.

That's football at this level... there is no isolated 30mins. It's concentration for the full 90 or you're out.

That's why I don't see this competition being about luck. You just get ruthlessly punished for even the smallest things. Stuff you'd get away with in the league. This can make it appear like you've been unlucky.
