Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

City will destroy us if we play like this on Sunday.

I think their minds are more on the City game than this. Might have been better with a weakened team here.

    Damn. Poor by Partey.

David Seaman would have been proud of that one. Wow.

Darragh Maloney & Ronnie Whelan on commentary is the worst of everything.

Ronnie is just so negative about everything - cheer up for fcks sake - and Maloney just blathers on inanely nonstop and often incorrectly.

I don't mind Maloney as a studio anchor, but as a commentator of a live match he's about the worst there is.

Arsenal are really poor tonight. Really poor. Be very lucky to get out of this with a draw.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,661 ✭✭✭✭Arghus

    A draw is fine IMO.

  • Registered Users Posts: 53 ✭✭Nightwing1862

I think the reason they're so flat is that Ronnie and Darragh are over at the game sucking the life out of everything in the vicinity…

    time for Sterling and calafiori

Jesus a few players have had a really poor night.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 197 ✭✭cr-07

Trossard really isn’t working in the Odegaard position - he keeps trying similar passes, but either the accuracy is just off or it’s under/over hit

What a pile of rubbish that was.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,289 ✭✭✭Azatadine

That would leave you very concerned for the next 2 months without Odegaard.

Two hours of my life I'll never get back. First match I've sat down to watch this season too.

Only positive from that game was Raya.

If we show up like that this weekend, City will put up a cricket score.

Lethargic, sloppy football. Absolutely piss poor to watch.

It felt like a dress rehearsal for Sunday, very likely that Arteta will set up for a goalless draw.

Not a good game, but based on how Atalanta played and won the Europa League last season, probably to be expected.

We created very little in that game and the Spurs game, worrying signs. Only positive was the work ethic and defensive work.

Not sure if I’m disappointed with the point or not - can’t get the measure of this Atalanta team

for me a point away to the winners of Europa and no injuries is a a good night, not great to watch but it’s not always going to be and I doubt if having odegard in tbe game would have made a huge difference to the result

Supposedly he played in midfield for a lot of the France v Italy game

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,692 ✭✭✭emmetlego

Didn’t really get to see the game last night, but did a re-watch this morning. Martinelli has been catching some heat for his performances, and yes his finishing and goal threat is less effective quite obviously but his work rate and defensive work has been exceptional really. Hopefully his confidence and touch will return. Maybe by Sunday?? 😂

As for Partey, that is way more worrying. His touch, passing and his pace loss are the most alarming. Maybe he’s just trying to find his mojo again, but he needs to find it soon. With Merino out, we are relying on him so much. Rice back in the 6 and Merino outside on the left side would be the most preferred in my opinion.

As for Raya. Well, I’ve no words for that save(s) last night. Wow

Think we’ll really struggle on Sunday without Martin but hopefully Mikel can conjur up something, 🤞

I'd start Jorginho ahead of Party on Sunday

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,661 ✭✭✭✭Arghus

Partey seems to take a while to get up to speed, many games, back to back, until he starts looking sharp and then you hope he won't pick up a niggle because, even if he comes back quickly, you go back to square one again.

I would was Jorginho given a rest because he's expected to play against City.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,625 ✭✭✭wassie

Commentators mentioned Jorginho ran the furtherest in the Spurs game, so may well be that we was being rested in prep for Sunday.

Definitely a challenge for Arteta to manage the team with such a short turn around. City have an extra 24 hrs on us and they didn't have the travel.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 52,404 ✭✭✭✭tayto lover

Trossard in midfield certainly didn't work. I thought Califiori was very good when he came on. Showed some attacking flair too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,865 ✭✭✭Deeper Blue

Calafiori looks class, he'll be a regular starter for us soon I'd imagine

How do people feel about Sterling starting ahead of martinelli tomorrow?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 52,404 ✭✭✭✭tayto lover

I'd prefer to see Martinelli starting because it's an away game and he defends better. If it was at home i'd probably prefer Sterling starting. I also think that teams often set up to stop Martinelli because of his speed in attack ie the way he runs at them. Sterling is fast too but tends to stop and look around for a pass.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,568 ✭✭✭Flaneur OBrien

Sterling has "former player desperate to score against his team" energy though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,121 ✭✭✭G1032

Don't think that'll happen. Martinell does trojan defensive work and I assume will be instrumental in the way we'll set up tomorrow. Sterling or Trossard starting ahead of him on the left will leave us too exposed down that side v a team like

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,568 ✭✭✭Flaneur OBrien

Isn't it nice going to our main rival in the league and not expecting a hammering, even with one of our best players out?

Just thinking about the difference in mentality Arteta has brought to the team and the supporters.

It'll be a very, very tough match. But with Gabriel, Saliba and Raya on fire at the moment, I'm not as afraid of Haaland and the others going mental and putting up a cricket score.

My big concern is the other end. I can only hope that if we score one on the break, that we don't try and sit back and defend a 1 goal lead. They're too good for that.

Also, I have no idea who Arteta is going to put out today or what formation we'll go with.

    Good luck Gooners

I think we'll play the same way as last Sunday, would be surprised if we had more than 35% of the ball.

    Raya

    White Saliba Gabriel Timber

    Partey Jorginho Rice

    Saka Havertz martinelli

I think it will still be the same starting eleven.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,159 ✭✭✭Irish Aris

    Calafiori starts instead of White.

Partey also starts, hopefully he will have a good game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 52,404 ✭✭✭✭tayto lover

Havertz in midfield and Trossard at CF. Not sure that works but maybe they have been rehearsing something in training.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,108 ✭✭✭✭Quazzie

White is one of most consistent players. Arteta better not fu@k this up by trying something stupid.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,289 ✭✭✭Azatadine

Strange time to go meddling with our defence......
