On the plus they will likely get pfeizer so save a few weeks in terms of AZ dosing so will still be fully vaccinated sooner. It’ll all work out.

This was regarding over 60s still waiting in Meath and just confirming you were right :)

Family members in South and East Meath just received appointments for Pfizer in The Helix. Registered 25/04 so 3 weeks waiting.
No text yet, just saw it on the portal. Hopefully anyone in these areas waiting will hear soon.

I'm just seeing now that those in and around Dunboyne and Batterstown who hadn't been called are suddenly getting texts for Tuesday in citywest. They seem to have found the postcode. Some of those waiting over 3 weeks are in their mid 60s!
Drogheda has an immediate catchment area of 70K and a good bit more if people are redirected from those areas in Meath so it's surprising it's taken so long.

If living in Dublin will you be asked to go to Helix, Aviva or Citywest depending on which is nearest to your home or could it be either?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,573 ✭✭✭pajor

Skewing things here.. I live in The Netherlands.

    Age: 29
Received letter last Tuesday from regional health group (GGD) was then able to make book appt. immediately online. 1st jab will be 31/05 in (smallish) town where I live. I had the choice to go further away for this coming week already. In hindsight I wish I had chosen this week, but doesn't really matter.
    2nd jab will be 05/07
I receive flu jab due to asthma; corona vaccine now available to under 60s with medical risk.

Closest I think. To me the Aviva would be more useful as I could train it. Probably the helix though.

Someone already posted about a family member in Dublin 15 getting an appt in Citywest, so there seems to be more than simple distance involved as the Helix would be closer to most if not all of Dublin 15 than Citywest

Can I just ask as i was not following. Why the vacination is going so slow in ireland. Where i come from people of age less than 18 now are vacinated. I missed the JJ appointment back home and I have to wait for the one in Ireland.

When 30s are going to be vacinated in Ireland.

It's not that slow now but for the first three months it was, as expected, and down to very limited vaccine supplies. Probably July for that age group.

Poland and Ireland are about the same in terms of number of doses administered and number of people vaccinated (per population), so maybe there are differences in vaccine take up?

Does anyone know what times the centre's operate to and from and can you pick a slot or is it just turn up on the date and wait until you are seen.

You can't pick a slot and you can't just turn up. You are given a date and a time.

I'm 34 and considered high risk. My GP called me last Monday 10th May with an appointment time for The Helix and I got my first Pfizer jab on Saturday 15th. No side effects at all. Second jab set up for June 12th. All very straightforward and well run in The Helix.

My mam is 60 and I registered her on the day I could. She got her AstraZeneca jab on Wednesday 12th May in The Helix. She had a very bad headache, fatigue and very sore hips in the 24-48 hours afterwards but is ok now. Her second jab will be in 12-16 weeks time.

Getting my second Moderna vaccine tomorrow.

I thought I was Cohort 7 originally (based on my reading of the criteria), but my original vaccination was when it seemed that Cohort 4 were the only ones on the go.

Either way, delighted to have the second one in the 3-4 weeks after the first and be free to roam soon.

    Under 40, Dublin.

My wife got a call from my Doc on Saturday asking me to come in today at 5:20 she said I am at risk (nice of her to tell us 15months later) and 46 will find out today what qualifies me as at risk ;) anyway I'm getting Pfizer today apparently.
I had expected to be getting vaccinated in the states before here (heading over for work) so this has come as a nice surprise.

Sorry - found it. You just go to register and there is an option once you get to the first screen 'already have an account' to click on. No appointment yet for me. :(

Who would want AZ with that length of time between vaccinations.

If you look at the uptake on the ECDC https://vaccinetracker.ecdc.europa.eu/public/extensions/COVID-19/vaccine-tracker.html#target-group-tab it's easy to see that some countries are focusing a lot more on doing vaccinations by age groups (like Ireland) while others are focusing more on offering the vaccine to everyone and see who takes it or targeting mostly working-age people (like Poland).
Personally given the death provide of Covid I think we are the ones doing the rollout in the correct way. But that might be me. It's probably is not the most glamorous way to roll this out.

(And I guess this might be off topic, so sorry about that. I guess further discussion can take place in the vaccine thread if people are interested)

It depends some get it there and then, my GP said they'd be in touch to confirm once they confirm their next deliveries.

Not sure where you're from but I know in France it's open to those over 18, however there are also higher levels of vaccine hesitancy there too, meaning the vaccination programme can be opened up to wider society to fill the slots not being taken by older citizens.

No, unlike the over 80's, and maybe other groups previously, they don't give you a second date on the day.

    Edit:

Oh, didn't know centres were giving dates on this, or maybe GP's only?

Cohort 7 - 46yo Male - 2nd (Pfizer) jab appointment is Tuesday next week.

I was given the 30th as a date for my 2nd jab, the day I got jab 1, but got a text today to book my 2nd jab and the clinic is on the 25th, happy days.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,045 ✭✭✭JoChervil

Differences in demographics and uptake in Ireland nearly absolute in the cohorts that have been vaccinated so far.

Poland has a vaccine hesitancy of almost 40%

86.5% of the overall population here are very likely or likely to get the vaccine. As you go up the age groups that’s closer to 100%. So every vaccine offered in the cohorts opened has been accepted. So the movement to 30s will take longer if you’re seeing say 97% of the 50s being vaccinated vs say 60%.

And weirdly 43% of 80+ seniors didn't take the vaccine in Poland. I think it is because of church.

That would be close to 0% here.

Odd position for the church to take. Not one they took here.

There’s the EU polling on it

    https://www.eurofound.europa.eu/sites/default/files/ef_publication/field_ef_document/ef21064en.pdf

I think blaming the Church is a cliche. I do work with a guy from Poland who is strongly "anti-authoritarian", and anti-vax.

It might be a post communist thing.
