Another stunning day here in Dublin.. June has been sensational I must say

If June has been sensational, then what word could be used to describe May in Dublin? May was a sunnier month than June by over 80 hours as of now, the gap will obviously decrease in the coming days though. Also, May had the top 2 sunniest days of the year. Even April had 5 days sunnier than any day this June. May also didn't see a three/four day run of poor weather like June has.

Nicest day of the year in East Cork, bit of a breeze but still very warm. Wall to wall sunshine. Next few days looking good.

May was significantly colder and wetter than average everywhere.

Sunshine was above average though. But not by a huge amount in most places.

June, in Dublin at least, is likely to be warmer, sunnier and drier than average. Nothing record breaking though.

I guess everyone can interpret those stats as they want to.

May was notably cooler and more unsettled than June.

May 2021 Phoenix Park: 96.9mm of rainfall, mean temperature 10.0c (-0.8)
June 2021 Phoenix Park: 14.6mm of rainfall, mean temperature 14.6 (+1.1) (up to June 26th)

Similar results all across Ireland. May was cold and generally very wet. Most stations exceeded 100mm of rain for the month.

This evenings ECM keeps us warm and dry till Friday and then a temporary unsettled interlude at the weekend, after that there are signs of the warmth really building next week.

GFS 12z also goes for plenty of warm weather after this weekends slightly uncertain unsettled interlude.

The models have been playing around with some very warm to hot weather on and off over the past week or more. I wouldn't be surprised if we will get a few very warm days at some point over the next 3 to 4 weeks.

Very nice forecast for week ahead on met eireann website. A great June in these parts and looks like a nice start to July

    NATIONAL OUTLOOK

Outlook: Lots of dry weather and becoming warm as high pressure dominates.

Monday night: Mostly dry and mild on Monday night with a mix of cloud and clear spells and the chance of an isolated shower in the southeast. Lowest temperatures of 10 to 12 degrees however remaining milder in the southeast in light northerly breezes.

Tuesday: It looks set to be a mostly dry and warm day on Tuesday with spells of hazy sunshine. Cloud will bubble up through the day in the midlands and there will be a small chance of a light passing shower. Highest temperatures of 20 to 23 degrees in light northerly or variable breezes generally, but less warm along some coasts due to onshore northerly winds.

Tuesday Night: Dry and mostly clear overnight. Lowest temperatures of 10 to 14 degrees, mildest in the south. Northerly winds will remain light, leading to some mist patches developing.

Wednesday: It is expected to be a warm and dry summer's day with spells of sunshine. A few light showers may break out during the day in the southwest. Highest temperatures of 20 to 24 degrees in light northeasterly breezes. Remaining cooler near the coasts where some on-shore breezes will develop.

Wednesday Night: Dry and becoming mostly clear on Wednesday night. Lowest temperatures of 10 to 14 degrees with some mist patches forming as light variable breezes fall calm at times.

Thursday: Remaining generally dry and warmer with good sunny spells on Thursday. Some cloud will bubble up through the day, with the chance of a shower or two in the west towards evening. Highest temperatures of 21 to 25 degrees in light variable winds. Remaining cooler near the coasts where some on-shore breezes will develop.

Thursday night: Becoming dry and mostly clear overnight, but remaining quite muggy and close as temperatures hold between 12 and 15 degrees in light southeast or variable breezes.

Friday: Early indications are for another warm and mostly dry start to the day. However, cloud will increase from the southwest during the afternoon with rain extending across the country during the evening and overnight hours. Highest temperatures of 19 to 25 degrees in light to moderate southeasterly winds.

After the warm week some will be glad of any bit of rain available next weekend especially the farming community I would imagine , models definitely showing it warmer now Fri through Sunday than before, could be a sticky one in those moist SW'lys with the added interest of watching out for convection and thunderstorm potential.

Bring the warm weather on. nice warm nights. forget the rain for a few weeks,we'll be sound without it :)

Salthill, Galway probably got the best day out of June today but that niggly breeze has been hanging around since Mid-April, is there any way we can remove this breeze or wind.

If you want to get into it, you got to get out of it. (Hawkwind 1982)

There is a notable yellow/orange hue appearing on the grass around southern Laois. Grass that meets concrete/asphalt is burnt a few inches back into the sod.

A lovely day here today with cloud of around 5 octas this morning, briefly thickening to 6 before breaking up to 3 octas mid-afternoon and almost total clearing this evening - some wispy high cloud. The breeze dropped as the day wore on and temperatures managed to get close to 21c.

Nice day albeit the humidity was a bit high enough and never really got below 60%.

Decent day again in Letterkenny with plenty of sunny spells, the past few days have finally started to feel a bit like summer after a dire month up til now. Looking forward to some proper warmth in the week ahead

Quick update from my location Saturday evening turned out to be a lovely evening nice and bright and felt pleasant. Yesterday was a lovely warm summers day absolutely glorious really. This morning so far is overcast and a tad cool. I’d expect it to pick up shortly though.

Light drizzle falling in Sligo this morning.

I dont see any mention of drizzle on Met Eireann forecast.

Are we in a different country?

    Yesterday was good day here.

    Got to 17c

Stil a way to go to beat our "warmest" day of 21.6c

Saturday was even freezinger. Wind chill but dry.

    Forecast definitely wrong.

Theres mist in Finner, Mace Head and here in Sligo

Also cloud moving down towards Northwest coast this evening.

No mention of any of this on forecast.

    Await amended forecast.

Glasnevin really is a bad place to have Met Eireann head office.

    update 11am Finner Recent Rain
    Knock Drizzle

Very cloudy in Dun Laoghaire too this morning - being so far East and by the coast it's usually one of the sunnier places in the country. Hoping it'll brighten up a bit later.

However as I, and so many others, say each summer (and Gonzo only yesterday) it seems almost impossible to accurately predict cloud cover and sun in Ireland. Especially in summer and autumn.

I don't know why and it's not just MET E who struggle. I'm guessing the cold sea and warm uppers are perfect conditions for it.

In Dublin you're genuinely as likely to get sun under low pressure conditions as you are with high pressure.

Ground was all wet this morning in Letterkenny so must have rained overnight. Just the usual slate grey skies so far today

no sun here in Meath either, hopefully the clouds will start breaking soon.

Amended Met Eireann forecast now mentions the drizzle

I don't think this week is going to be as sunny as we would like. Alot of variable cloud around in the coming week, some places will get lucky, others won't. This variable cloud is likely to keep temperatures around average for the time of the year, generally 16 to 21C, maybe a bit higher if decent sunshine. It will slowly become more unsettled from Wednesday/Thursday with some showers in southern areas and showers moving in from the west by Friday and on into the weekend.

Here is what the high res UK Met Office (one of the better short range models) chart showed for about now:
    m8xihHu.png

Showing not much cloud over the country at all. Nonetheless, despite the overcast conditions again it isn't an unpleasant day with a nice temp profile and a feels good on the skin breeze. Cloud looks to be thinning slowly anyway so maybe some breaks later.

The sky now looks clear and blue to my north, still cloudy here but sun is trying to make an attempt with the cloud thinning slightly.

Awful weather at Wimbledon, the outlook looks bleak there this week. At least they have a roof on the two main courts

It has brightened up nicely in Castlebar, 17C currently.

Southern and south-eastern England is having a fairly poor second half of June, they didn't get any of the nice sunshine we had last week. It was fairly wet there last week and plenty of showers there over the next few days and cool for the region too. The Atlantic looks set to take over from the weekend and next week is looking on the mixed side.

Eastern and southern Ireland has probably had a better June overall than much of England. The first week of July still looks very uncertain with models playing around with very warm and settled weather as well as unsettled and Atlantic dominated conditions.
