I have an elderly parent who needs advice on how to switch phone networks.

She is with Vodafone bill pay, out of contract.
Can someone list the steps to follow?
Does she call into either phone store first or what?
Shes not tech savvy at all, would not be able to remove simcards etc.

    thanks

She could go into the store and they should take care of everything. They can organise to port the number over to the new network.

If she would prefer to avoid going into the store it can all be done online as well. Order a SIM card online and follow the instructions on porting her number to the new network is the easiest way (you could do this for her). They will ask for the time and day to switch over. When the SIM card comes someone would need to switch them over.

If she wants to keep her existing handset, she needs to call Vodafone first, and request the unlock code. It can take a couple of weeks to get this. Everything else could be done by an employee of her new network in a store (assuming they are not limited in handling devices due to Covid).

IMO you should do the switch for her, it can be done online without going near a shop. In addition to the physical SIM swap, any errors in entering a network unlock code could become messy.

Firstly, get phone unlocked by requesting the unlock code (details on VF website).

The new network handles everything else by sending a verification code to the number to be ported but IMO the number should only be ported after testing out the destination network with a new number for a week at least. You can switch the number to PAYG with VF in the interim and port it later on.
