Problem with big energy filled runs from Rory ...they are often from too far back and when they run out of steam ...it is all a bit old Rory again..

    It was inevitable

Not sure if it was McGinley or me for starting watching the coverage....

So many putts just slipped by the hole. Could easily have been 3 or 4 better off. Still, showing an upturn in form. He'll give one of the next two majors a really good go.

Has burned the edge a lot for sure. I thought when he hit the few birdies in a row he was on for a low one but hadn't been able to sink anything on the back 9

Friday was the killer...the par is 71 which he got but was playing at least 68.5 so really fell back....

Terrible ‘below par’ performance since a brilliant 1st round.

    it’s all Amanda’s fault

    Sad

I think he's played well considering the issues surrounding him. Again, he's already 3 wins in for the year .

He couldn't quite bring the back 9 on Saturday, that double really killed him, if he pars there and birdies the 18th he's 3 off the lead on a Sunday.

Well done to Xander, that's a fantastic win after fading away last week, great mental strength and I was delighted it didn't go to a LIV player.

Commentary highlights, they're calling Xander the X man even tho his name starts with an S" Jesus wept.

Good to see. God knows what happened and who really cares as its his private life.

That might not be good for his golf. It's going to take up a lot of his time.

And while they were divorcing he won twice!!! 😁

I don’t tend to get to see a lot of the first day of the Majors, but I’m glad I got a chance to sit down this evening. McIlroy is playing very well and looks focused next to the other two best players in the world. This could be the one.

If that 2nd shot on the 9th was half a degree to the left, he might have got the eagle.

    but he's looking relaxed.

(lowry at +2 on the 11th)

    Here we go again…

It's super early but Rory is looking very good. Stinger driver just 35ft off the ground was a joy to see, hitting lots of irons off the tee too, keeping the ball in play and playing to the fat of the green.

Call me stupid, but this really could be the week!

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,143 ✭✭✭Brief_Lives

at least none is running away with it on the first day with something stupid like a 62/63

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,143 ✭✭✭Brief_Lives

How Scottie is only +1 when he hasn't hit a fairway all day, is incredible… his god is protecting him.

He's been blessed with some of the outcomes of those drives for sure

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,143 ✭✭✭Brief_Lives

And as we just saw, ridiculously lenient drops. jokeshop really.

  • Registered Users Posts: 21,385 ✭✭✭✭Mushy

Least he still made bogey, the drop was a joke

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,684 ✭✭✭coillcam

It's a great 1st day. Loads of golf to play and the course could end up even harder to score on.

His playing partners are still well the picture for Sunday.

Fantastic putt from Rory on 18

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,577 ✭✭✭✭Dav010

    Super round.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,011 ✭✭✭sReq | uTeK

-5 what a round. Head and shoulders above the next 2 best golfers in the world. No Bogeys. Clinical golf.

Scottie, just wow at some of those drops. Very lenient.

Ready to be let down again

Most encouraging thing is how comfortable it was, fairways and greens all day.
