    I've owned 9 cars in 13 years

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,194 ✭✭✭BlakeS94

    5 cars in 8 years

2000 Fiesta 1.25 zetec written off (broke my heart)

2003 Focus 1.6 (broke my wallet)

2010 Suzuki SX4 (most reliable I've owned even though I thrashed it)

2009 Audi A4 (burned my wallet)

2013 Hyundai i40 (stole my wallet, robs my lunch money, burned my house down and killed my family)

I'd like to look back on this post in years to come and hope I get a decent car for my next one

    I did lol
Honestly what was the sx4 like, was it the saloon or one like a mini sized crossover

The hatchback version, 1.6 diesel 90hp, I redlined it regularly and almost on every journey, never caused a bit of bother and held onto it for a year or so until the idea of an audi corrupted my naive mind

    Mine were

Fiat Punto 00D My first motor, fond memories of smoke coming out of it every so often
SEAT Ibiza 1.4 sport 05D - nice car, clutch went a week after I got it

Followed by 08D Ford Focus hatchback, then 10, 12 hatchbacks, In 2014 moved to Focus Estate, same in 2016 & 2018.

Last Year I changed to Hyundai 202 i30 Tourer. So far so good.

    98 Micra (great learner)
05 Focus (3 door, looked well. 1.4 engine gutless though)
03 Fiesta (3 door 1.4, was a fair bit of poke for a little car - lost a game of timing belt roulette though)
07 Mazda 3 (great car, bit of rust I've treated, just shy 65k miles, long may she live on)

I've bought the wife's cars so I should probably add those

00 Micra (not such a great learner, car was fine, the student not so much)
15 Mini (new lease through work, 1.6 diesel iirc, was quick but was a poor car e.g. had to go back to the dealer in first week coz the bonnet wouldn't open, it rattled to fcuk too. We actually paid to end the lease early.)
05 Yaris (1.3, quick enough and rock solid car. We'd still have it if it was bigger.)
10 CR-V (2.0 petrol ex model, super comfy family carrier. Absolutely guzzles fuel. Thankfully our needed mileage is low)

I like doors that don't have window frames too!

The 240z my first car. It was a bit of a junker really. I was working in the USA at the time and I bought it for 200 dollars. It had no glass in the sunroof, the brakes were shot and the clutch was on the way out! I only had it for about 8 weeks. It broke down on the highway and I ended up paying the recovery truck driver 100 dollars to scrap it,as I was heading home the following week.

    I Loved that car.

    Ford Fiesta 1.25 detective 1996
Seat cordoba coupe 1.6. I think it was 2001
VW Passat 2000/01 can’t remember which. Was a 1.9 tdiiiiiiiiii red of course
A Ford Focus (company car) newish at the time.
Alfa GT 2010 1.9. Still best car I’ve ever owned. I miss it to this day.
Mazda 6, 3 of them in a row. 1st was a 1.8 petrol and then two 2.2 diesels, which imo get more stick on boards for dpf issues that’s warranted but that’s my experience.
Then two ford galaxys, the latest being the current car 2016. Ugly as sin but with 3 kids it was the best decision ever. Grand to drive and room to fit your house in it.

Wow actually haven’t sat back and thought about that one ...right driving 16 years let’s see ...

    Rover Metro 1.0
    Ford Escort 1.4
    Honda Del Sol SIR
    Peaugot 206
    Volkswagen Passat 1.6
    BMW 3 Series
    Alfa 156 TS
    Alfa 166 V6
    Alfa 159 TBI
    Porsche Boxster S
    Cupra Formentor

I’m probably forgetting one but that’s an even ten , not too bad .

I was in the US..I really wanted a muscle car, but the 240 was all I could afford. I really wanted a Dodge Challenger (too many episodes of the dukes of hazard!) I was going to weld the doors shut too! :)

Insurance was peanuts! Something like 70 or 80 dollars! Sure when I scrapped the car I sent the registration back and I got a refund as I only had the car for a few weeks!

Looking back, I've no regrets as the car really was a bit of a junker. I'm seriously considering buying a 240z as my next car.

Mind you, I love my GT86! Not surprising really as it's a modern day 240z.

Only 4 cars in 11 years.

Focus van (tragic sh#tbox) 14 months
    Altezza 3 years
Aristo 3 years, loved that beast, comfy with a Supra TT engine and insurance was only 2,800 at 22 years.

    1998 Nissan Almera "sport" 1.4
    1990 Eunos Roadster (JDM MX5)
    2001 Nissan Micra (990cc auto)
    Shared a 1998ish BMW 318is
    Shared a 1997ish Mercedes Benz C200
    2005 Mazda RX8 6 port
    2008 Volvo XC70 2.4 D5
    2007 Suzuki Swift Sport.

Can't say which is my favorite because I've loved each and every one for their own reasons.
I regret selling the Mazda's most and was delighted when I sold the Volvo because I was never going to do the work it needed.

My current swift is fantastic and exactly what I need right now, although I do want to start changing parts of it.

    Edit: worth adding.

    While between cars I borrowed
    2005 Renault Megane saloon 1.4
2009 Mazda 6 1.8 which instill borrow when I need space.
My Fiance's 2005 Nissan Micra 1.0 which is a real work horse and will do over 160kph on a long hill.

My Fiance's 2005 Nissan Micra 1.0 which is a real work horse and will do over 160kph on a long hill.

Cian, this is NOT an admonishment.

My Cortina 1300 did exactly 100mph down a hill outside Castleisland in 1978. I got the feeling it wasn't designed for that speed when the passenger window popped inwards on top of* the soon to be MrsN. She didn't say ANYTHING till our next stop. Then she made up for it.

OK exaggeration, it didn't land on her, it just popped out of its runners and flapped a little, but it sounded like Armageddon.

edit to say : sorry for the off topic post. won't do it again.

Ah, I remember the good old days when I was young and had loads of disposable income I used to change the car every 2 - 3 years. Started with a Peugeot 205 then went through a phase of Honda/Toyota/Mazda. When I got married and had kids, bought the Mrs a 306 and a Celica for myself...kept that for 17 years...

Probably just a total of 6 cars in 30 years of driving - the Celica really throws out the average :)
