    How hard is it to get a deer hunting licence?

    Not very... the bones of it are;
    Find a farmer with deer on his land they want to be shot.

    Apply for,and receive grant,for a CF rifle [above 223 cal] on the basis of you want to hunt deer while applying at the same time to NPWS.
    If you are a total newbie, NPWS will require you to do either the HCAP or DSL.A 1-day course that is pretty much idiot-proof up on the midland range for 200 quid....
    Pretty much it.

    Then start a lifetime of learning to become good at it.
