M50 - Dublin Port: South Port Access Route

This is funded in the NDP but we've seen little mention of it since the NDP was announced. Not sure what involvement TII have here but it'll be connected someway to the Port Tunnel.

Dublin Port have commenced a pre-application consultation with ABP on this route, which will be a bridge.

Is this totally giving up on using that space for housing so? Seems such a waste. Plenty of ports in the country would love to be upgraded with a new RORO terminal, and that land must be worth hundreds of billions if it was zoned residential.

The time to relocate Dublin Port was before they bult the Port Tunnel - they could have had a site North of the city, but in their defence, Dublin Bay is a very good natural harbour, and getting planning to build a port of this size anywhere on the East Coast would be a nightmare - sea-ports are not pretty, not particularly environmentally friendly, and lots of rich people own houses near the seaside...

Other ports are being upgraded too, notably Rosslare, but Dublin is still the busiest in the country.
