Has anyone worked with the Gov Open Data portal and the JSON-Stat files therein?
its a new area for me.
I was/am looking to do a little side-project where I would take some data from the open data portal and visualize it in MS Power BI. Had (naively) expected it to be straight forward but not so, it seems.
Power BI doesn't like the JSON Stat format.

Do I have to ETL the JSON into a table and read it into Power BI from there?

I think Eurostat also uses the JSON stat format.

    Does this article help?
I have never used Power BI (is it free to use?)

    Thanks, I'll check that out.
Yes, power BI, the Desktop version is free.
My understanding is their licencing kicks in if you want to share dashboards and workspaces between teams.
    It a very robust program.

Power BI should be able to handle JSON.

Not very familiar with the various Data tools, but any that doesn't work brilliantly with JSON should be ignored.

Json stat is a different format though, isn't it?

Never worked with it, but assume it is still just JSON (albeit a large & complex structure, no doubt).

But, given the rise of JSON over the past decade as the standard way to move/describe data, I'd be very concerned with a data tool that can't easily navigate/interpret it.

It seems to be different. Power BI is not accepting it.

Just did a quick google, and yeah, Power BI seems to have problems.

Tableau does work with it though if you want to try that.

Or, if you have to stick with Power BI, you can try convert it and then feed in to power BI: https://json-stat.org/tools/

    Thanks Dotsman.

    Appreciate you looking into that.
I've used Tableau previously but at present Power BI is the tool that is gaining traction in my organisation so I think i'll have to stick with that.
I'll try the conversion method as you suggest.
