Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

That was a pure Sampras serve to go 6-4.

    The crowd can stay !

    How'd they manage that?

It was probably not worth the effort to get everybody out anyway. Get the security/cops involved. And we know the French aren't the most compliant.

The third set was well over 1 1/2 hours long. McEnroe won both the 1983 and 1984 Wimbledon finals in less time than that.

    What a match.

When you think Nadal is done he comes back fighting.

Because he had the good sense to play well from the start and not wait until the 3rd to wake up.

    Nah, it's not great tennis, y'know! :D

Backed Nadal at 7/4 to win tournament there at end of 3rd set.

I wonder will djkovic take a tactical toilet break if he loses this set

That was a poor game from Nadal.
He looks like he could be cramping up.

Good match. Nadal fading though, Djok looks fitter and stronger.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,535 ✭✭✭EagererBeaver

Some quick turnaround there after going 0-2 down.

Some people have even turned it off and are rewatching Pistol Pete Wimby matches instead.

(who wasn't even in one classic final there)

    Just 'not up to snuff.

Enjoy these lads while you can.

    They won’t be around forever….

And there’s fook all following them.

Is Nadal limping a bit since he took the strapping off his ankle?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 56,710 ✭✭✭✭walshb

I said Nadal would not win FO 2021!!!

The one time ever that Federer is up for Djokovic?! :D

He's going to do accomplish one of the very toughest feats in sport.

(98.5% winning record heretofore over 5 on the muck)

Amazing to come back after that insane blitz out-of-the-blocks by Nadal which would have broken the spirit of pretty much any other tennis player.

    He’s a professional athlete…

They’re all fit as fiddles. Paid millions to do nothing but practice and play..

Maybe, maybe not. If Djokovic wins here, and then at Wimbledon, the three of them would be tied at 20 each. And Federer has not won the US Open since 2008.

Djokovic slowly but surely making the endless GOAT debates between Nadal and Federer irrelevant.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,535 ✭✭✭EagererBeaver

Unreal high level from Djokovic after it looked like it was going to be last year's final all over again.

    God I hate him.

I'm not saying he is taking something but how many times have we seen him get fresher as matches go on.
I've never seen anything like it in any sport.

Is he still on the gluten free diet ?

Even if he ever tests positive we'll never know. All that stuff is swept under the rug in tennis. Sharapova only caught because of that dumb press conference.

ffs now is not the time to be throwing out the doping sour grapes accusations imo

skill and pure force of will and heart were the defining characteristics tonight and no drug can give you either

Age & wear tear catches up on Nadal, he wasn’t going to manage a fifth set/ hour. Lessons there for younger players taking him on.

How can you tell he is “fresher” from watching tv?

And what exactly does fresher mean?

Can athletes not get warmer, faster, more flowing etc as they endure?

It’s not long distance running. It’s tennis. Plenty rests/breaks/refreshments..

Iv'e got nothing against juicing by the way, it's everywhere and in every sport and the majority all do it.

Djokovic went into absolute beast mode in sets 3 and 4. His peak level is just extraordinary. His return of serve is out of this world

What's bull is thinking these people are clean.

So Roger/Rafa/Nadal and other elite players are all cheaters?

    Really?

Again, this attitude is ignorant bull.

It's not, it's incredibly naïve to think top level athletes earning millions wouldn't take advantage of the benefits juicing's gives, look at MMA, boxing, cycling, running for example, you hear all the time people getting caught, it's rampant in every sport.

I agree with part of this..

I have nothing against it either.

But there are plenty greats that are honest and dignified and playing by the rules.
