So, I logged back in this evening and the actual text is "You have not yet completed your LPT return for this year. Until you do an estimated LPT charge will apply. The bold text is a link to what I will be charged if I don't submit a valuation, i.e., €103 instead of €256.

This might sound like a nice idea but it's going to be fairly easy and tempting to make false declarations e.g. those aren't my housemates... I'm just having a party. My son doesn't live here. I just keep his room like that for when he comes back from college.

If they tried to use something like the voter register to validate returns then many younger voters would be encouraged by their parents to stay off the register. I'd be wary of anything that drives a culture of "undocumented" people like in the US.

If you want to apply a tax based on # of adults, just let revenue and welfare handle it via adjustments to PAYE & benefits.

It wouldnt be a problem at all. Revenue will get you. They will have an address for you.

If you dont live in one place you must live in another. You have to give revenue an address.

It is different for different types of house. It is less costly to clear a detached house than a terraced house whereas a detached house would have a higher market value than a terraced house if all other factors were equal, size location etc.

if there was 1 tax we would be the highest in the world with nothing to show for, no health service or army cfuk this broaden tax policy highest electy, fuel, drink, USC and 34k into high rate but as 1/2 de country is on welfare it will never change and most tax is pissed down de toilet so as should dis poxy country go, socialist agenda has been governing this mess with weak oppisition from the coalition govt

Had that in the UK as poll tax. It was horrendous the bills people had.

Its called council tax there now and it seems to work well.

Tax based on property value is sometimes hard on locals in scenic areas where outside cash often raised on the value of city homes tends to drive up prices to buy holiday houses.

Suppose you never had to pay before. Have never had any correspondence from them.(took me years to get an Eircode) When you try to register the site wont allow you. Ros wont let me log in as I have a new computer and there is no digital certificate loaded. Try to get a new certificate and I again hit a brick wall.

What are you supposed to do then?

Is property tax applicable to people who live permanently in caravans or mobile homes?

Got a nasty letter from revenue saying I owe them a payment, it didn't say for what month.

Buy they kindly provided a property ID and pin, so when I logged in I see there is a missed payment from the 23-1-2020!

Why the hell are the only contacting me now about it with this threatening letter.

Also I cannot see how I can pay online for that missing payment.

I'm building up my fury for tomorrow's phone call.

hi there just wondering did you sort this and did you have a penalty on top of it? Thanks

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,971 ✭✭✭Heighway61

Same as that. Phoned them last week and made the once-off payment for the arrears. Today got a letter thanking me for setting up an annual direct debit for the same amount. They also promised an email receipt which never came.

Yes paid over the phone, turned out I was poor and broken when they tried to take the direct debit, and only informed/threatened me over two years later...........fcuking c1nts.

    Hi everyone

Has anyone had to value their new build now? My house was in the foundation stage of the build on 1st Nov 2021. Now revenue asks me to back-value my house; guess the value it had on 1st Nov 2021 to asses my LTP for 2023 - 2025.

Do they mean value 'foundation' or do they want me to pretend it was a habitable house, and value it accordingly???

It's the house you're paying the tax on.

So what would be the value of selling/buying it now and how much have property prices gone up since November 2021.

A mix of property price register and CSO will sort you out.

Cute how they are currently whinging that people are under-declaring.

This is what happens when you ignore protests at the bollocking thing being introduced in the first place for people with 1 home that they live in and force the charge upon people.

Ironically, water charges (which I would have found fair) wouldn't have half as much of a protest were it not for this crapp.
