Pot 2 looks the better pot to be in this season

Sheriff are the first ever Moldovan team to reach the CL group stage. Nailed on that they draw Man City along with their usual Shaktar tie.

Can anyone workout how they arrived at these pairings?

To ensure that paired clubs from the same country play on separate days where possible, the eight groups will be distinguished by colour: Groups A to D will be red and Groups E to H will be blue. When a paired club is drawn, for example, in one of the red groups (A, B, C or D), the other paired club – once it has been drawn – will automatically be assigned to one of the four blue groups (E, F, G or H). The pairings are as follows:

    A Chelsea & Manchester City

B Atlético de Madrid & Sevilla

    C Inter & Juventus

    D Bayern & Dortmund

    E LOSC Lille & Paris Saint-Germain

    F Real Madrid & Barcelona

    G Man. United & Liverpool

    H Porto & Benfica

    I Shakhtar & Dynamo Kyiv

    J Leipzig & Wolfsburg

    K Atalanta & AC Milan

What I can't get my head around is why the two Manchester clubs paired and the two Madrid and Milan clubs? Aren't they the clubs that should not be playing on the same days?

All about TV so in England Liverpool and Man Utd will not be playing on the same night and in Spain Real and Barca will not be playing on the same night

So Messi is going to City after all.

Groups B and F will be interesting to see whether Milan and Atalanta can cause an upset.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,295 ✭✭✭✭MisterAnarchy

A few interesting groups but the rest will be very predictable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,306 ✭✭✭✭Drumpot

City will play nearly as many tough games in the group as they did for the entire CL last season , they were well overdue a tough draw.

If anyone is interested, livescore are showing all the games for free

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,042 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

Some decent games this week to start it off.

Looking forward to seeing how Barca do with many of their forwards missing. Fancy Bayern for an away win in that one.

Inter Madrid should also be a good game, and Pool Milan.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Have Virgin Media lost the rights to show most games? They're only advertising Liverpool/Milan yet they used to have a bunch of games on their Sport Extra channels.

Pleased to see Ronaldo start. Want to see a performance from Sancho as I think he's been very disappointing so far.

Bit mad to have no 8pm kickoff on Irish TV tonight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,933 ✭✭✭kksaints

Yes, they only have the rights to one match on the Wednesday night. Livescore app has the Irish rights to all the matches for the next 3 years.

Ronaldo opens the scoring, through the keeper's legs.

Salzburg's young striker Adeyemi started well and won a penalty but dragged the spot kick wide.

...And he's gone and won another penalty! Navas with the foul. And it's scored by Sucic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,168 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

The keeper should have done far better, AGAIN. Another fortunate goal for Ronaldo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,079 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

Gave a quick look at the LiveScore app there a few minutes ago. The play seems to be 2 minutes behind the live action and commentary within the app. If you are watching through the app, you'll probably see a goal notification before it actually happens, which kinda ruins things. Can anyone confirm did this happen when the goal went in?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

I haven't used it but that seems to be the case:

Wan-Bissaka given a straight red. It was warranted.

Adeyemi has won a THIRD penalty for Salzburg. This is mental. Sucic hits the post this time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,205 ✭✭✭fyfe79

RTE keep mentioning YB winning their league by 30 points, Ronnie Whelan calling it a 'joke'. You'd swear the last 2 seasons in England haven't been decided by cricket scores either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,168 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

Fully deserved red card for Wan-Bissaka. He can have no complaints. He could have broken his opponents ankle.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,880 ✭✭✭✭klose

Wtf is Ronnie whelan on about unfortunately in todays game that's a red card? It was a shocking challenge **** hell.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Now Sevilla have a penalty. 4th one this half! Rakitic levels it up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,079 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

That red card for AWB was coming eventually. His style of play is very swashbuckling style and loves to dive to ground.

Added to his own terrible first touch and lunged in to make amends, had to be a red after catching the opponent on the ankle.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

This Salzburg side are surely going to get picked apart by big clubs in no time as they seem to have several promising, young players. Adeyemi has caused Sevilla all sorts of problems up front, winning 3 pens and their DM Camara has caught the eye as well.

Ferdinand going in my time you get a high five well done

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,022 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Must be so tough to build anything there, every year they seem to get torn apart. Not only do they have to contend with big teams snapping up their best, they've Leipzig leering over their shoulder all the time too. Just looking back over their outgoings over the past 2 years is tough viewing - Haaland, Dabbur, Minamino, Schlager, Hwang, Szoboszlai, Daka, Mwepu etc etc..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,139 ✭✭✭Augme

Does the ref not know the rules? Ridiculous decision to blownthe whistle there. Did united a massive favour.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Sevilla down to ten after En-Nesyri does a ridiculous dive and gets a second yellow. Sevilla unhappy because he was offside in the move beforehand and so wanted the dive overlooked.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,139 ✭✭✭Augme

    Some dive from Ronaldo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,168 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

Young Boys have equalized. It's been coming.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,168 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

There's only one team that look like getting the winner as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Young Boys back in the game. Thought Shaw should have done better.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,139 ✭✭✭Augme

Seems crazy keeping Ronaldo, Pogba and Fernandes on. Being steam rolled in the middle.

It's Young Boys, you should be able to manage the game even with those three on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,232 ✭✭✭TheRiverman

    Ronaldo taken off now.

  • Registered Users Posts: 493 ✭✭BobHopeless

Ole apologies to him lol. Going to be funny to see how such a weak manager handles that ego over the season

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,386 ✭✭✭✭DDC1990

Anyone able to get the LiveScore app to show the game on Android.

I have gone to the watch section and selected the United game, but instead of showing the game it just shows stats.

    Same with the Sevilla game.

I know Apple users.have to sign in but there doesn't seem to be that option on the Android version.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Young Boys win it. Awful backpass from Lingard.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,495 ✭✭✭✭martyos121

Lingard costs United by making a highly inappropriate pass at Young Boys.

What an assist from Lingegard. The perfect through ball to split the defence. Just a shame it was at the wrong end!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Ends 1-1 in Seville. Very impressed by this young Salzburg side. This group could go right to the wire.

Martin Keown on BT was it? Going on about Lingaard being great. Had to happen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,168 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

Hilarious stuff. Great assist by Lingard. Young Boys deserved the victory, so justice done.
