Isn't it the way they always do it. Put every team in the pot and then 'push' to the next available slot if it's an invalid draw?

It's definitely the way they do the group draw anyway, with all it's rules about paired teams.

Delighted with the draw. Especially the end where it was only left with PSG and Manchester United as a possible draw. Hopefully that's the end of United, they shouldn't have even got out of the group stages and was afraid they'd get a handy draw.

No as for the others they were picking the teams out of individual bowels of who were eligible

It was a mistake each group winner had their own bowls and were being added to one big bowl, looks like the guy adding the balls to the main bowl lifted Utd by accident.

    BENFICA vs REAL MADRID

    VILLARREAL vs MAN CITY

    ATLETICO MADRID vs BAYERN MUNICH

    SALZBURG vs LIVERPOOL

    INTER MILAN vs AJAX

    SPORTING vs JUVENTUS

    CHELSEA vs LILLE

    PSG vs MANCHESTER UNITED

Instant reaction has Man City as 11/4 favourites, with Liverpool and Bayern both 7/2. PSG and Chelsea are both 13/2 and then its 12/1 and better the rest all the way to 250/1 shots RB Salzburg. There are some tasty ties in there.

I wasn't paying 100% attention but the Italian dude said that all teams were available, so it soudsd like the software was wrong and gave him/everyone the wrong information instead of somebody putting the Man Untd ball into the drum by accident. Bit of an emabrrassing **** up, the Italian dude caught it immediately though, I dont think it was somebody shouting in his ear that told him. Unless they realsied their mistake just before the ball was drawn out.

PSG v United the headline tie. Inter v Ajax should be tasty as well. Maybe Bayern v Atleti, though the latter needs to seriously improve by February to make a game of it.

Odd to be concerned and afraid of United tbh. Very odd.

They made a right balls of that draw, twice at least. The main guys genuinely didn’t know the difference between the 2 Manchester teams.

Atletico were able to draw Man City though.

Was Man Utd's ball included in the Atletico draw? The presenter said they couldn't draw each other, but they could.

The bit with Villarreal is grand really. They just re-drew the opponent for Villarreal with the eligible balls.

BENFICA vs REAL MADRID. Madrid advance

VILLARREAL vs MAN CITY. City Advance

ATLETICO MADRID vs BAYERN MUNICH. Munich advance

Quarter finals will be very tasty imo.

Didn't say I was afraid of United. Just afraid they'd get a handy draw and somehow stumble on in the competition. Hopefully, that's the end of that happening.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,612 ✭✭✭eigrod

They included (and drew out) Man Utd v Villareal. They left Man Utd out for Atletico’s draw and then he made some mad reference to a team not being able to draw Man City when they were already drawn.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,085 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

I'd say there could be grounds for a re-draw. Especially if Man Utd kick up a fuss.

The only thing is, if Man Utd kick up a fuss, because they drew PSG. It looks a bit...weak. They wouldn't complain if they got Sporting for example in the same draw. But on the other hand, they were not included in the draw for Atletico but should have been.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,612 ✭✭✭eigrod

Man Utd are well capable of beating PSG. Could be a mad aggregate score in that 7-6 or something.

You said you where afraid of the draw they would get. Why would you care? It's not like they are going to win the thing. You seem to devote more energy to United than your own team tbh.

They totally messed it up anyway as the the failed to include United in this draw.

Uniteds back line will be having nightmares about facing PSGs attack. Its a terrible draw for them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,503 ✭✭✭kowloonkev

They will have to re-draw it if that is the case. They are probably scrambling behind the scenes as we speak.

Next Man City manager: You lot may all be internationals and have won all the domestic honours there are to win under Pep. But as far as I'm concerned, the first thing you can do for me is to chuck all your medals and all your caps and all your pots and all your pans into the biggest **** dustbin you can find, because you've never won any of them fairly. You've done it all by bloody cheating.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,114 ✭✭✭El Gato De Negocios

Why do you think that? United have done relatively ok in the fixture over the last couple of years, and that was being completely handicapped by a dangerously out of his depth manager. PSG are obviously favourites but Rangnick has a couple of months to work with the team. You could argue that PSG's back line will be having nightmares about facing our attack. Its certainly not as academic as some of you boys seem to think.

If it's true United were left out of the Atletico draw, a re-draw has to be done.

If this is true, they made a right balls of this.

Need VAR for the feckin' draws now. 😂

You can see in the background of the video that United are marked red (indicating they can't be drawn), and Liverpool are green. Of courrse Liverpool couldn't be drawn against Atletico as they were in the same group.

    What a mess.

Was it something to do with the TV rights rule? United and City can't play at home the same week and that means United have to go to the second set of fixtures?

Edit: nope that shouldn't matter because Real and A Madrid are on the same side.

So unless it's because both City and United were drawn as away team's first?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,843 ✭✭✭✭yourdeadwright

Will they need to re do the whole draw or just a part of it ,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,612 ✭✭✭eigrod

No. They explained before the draw that a team can’t meet a team they’ve already played in group stage and can’t play a team from own country. Those were the only exceptions. They put up a screenshot each time to show who the first team drawn could meet - just the 2 guys doing the draw ignored it and screwed up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,085 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

This would suggest that the correct number of balls were included in the draw for Atletico.

So that pairing ended up being ok (as the Liverpool ball (which should been Man Utd) was not drawn), and so did the subsequent pairings as Man Utd were included in the correct draws but just not selected until they were drawn with PSG by default.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

I don't think the clubs affected - United, PSG, Atletico, Bayern - will want to protest as it will make them look afraid. It will come down to whether UEFA are going to stand over a draw that may not be legit. That raises its own problems. UEFA may decide to leave it up to the clubs and if they do that, I think they'll just go along with it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,085 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

Atletico might be asking for a re-draw. They got Bayern, so maybe feel they could have got an easier draw.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,304 ✭✭✭✭Father Hernandez

As a United fan, I'm not too fussed with getting PSG in the draw. Have to beat the best to be the best.

Nice to see Atlético putting it up to UEFA all the same if it's true, might make other teams follow suit.

It's pure incompetence at its best and when the stakes are that high, no room for error. UEFA are not exactly squeaky clean at the best of times so nice to see them come under pressure.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,378 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

Alethico would have preferred to get United than Bayern.

United would prefer PSG to Alethico because PSG have three lads that don't bother defending.

They really could simplify it by just having 2 pots. If the 2nd team drawn each time is a team the first can’t play, then keep them out until a team they can play is drawn out. Then put them all back in for the next tie to be drawn.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,503 ✭✭✭kowloonkev

I don't know what they're discussing because they have no choice but to redo it ,almost in its entirety.

To be fair to the lad conducting the draw it is convoluted, and he is like the chef, waiter and host all at the same time. It would be better with crests and colours of the clubs on the bowls perhaps.

Next Man City manager: You lot may all be internationals and have won all the domestic honours there are to win under Pep. This is what happens when there's Russian involvement in the draw.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,378 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

I always assumed that the team name was on the back of the bowl and we just couldn't see it?

AM could have got Ajax, Lille, Bayern, Juve and United so have a right to protest tbh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,378 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

The Liverpool ball was in the pot but not United. If Liverpool had been drawn to play AM then would they have just said this was meant to be United?

It looks like they mixed up Liverpool and United and put their balls in the wrong pots.

The odds of drawing each team was still the same though wasn't it?

    Feels inevitable at this stage.

    I still don't think it'll happen tbh.

Imagine the scenes if it's redone and United get sporting and lfc get PSG. Poor oul sligeach will have a fume induced aneurysm. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,085 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

To be fair, Real Madrid have a point. Their tie was drawn fairly.

Edit: quoted wrong post. But Real Madrid are asking for their tie to stand.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,843 ✭✭✭✭yourdeadwright

You what would happen then ,,,, United go out and Liverpool go through, Football mad like that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,378 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

I don't want PSG because the games are always full of PSG players throwing themselves to the ground and trying to get players booked. AM are the same but not quite to that level.

Liverpool would have a very good chance of beating PSG so if that's who they get that's who they get but I just wouldn't enjoy the game as much.
