Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Not living up to the hype.

I feel like PSG need to change it up a bit. Take some shots from distance or something but as it is they are trying to beat a man or 3 every time they are near the box

RTE punditry has gone awful bad these days

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,124 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

These are probably the only 2 they could find who actually watch football outside of the Premier League

Mbappe wins a pen. Poor challenge from Carvajal.

Will he take it or Messi...it will be Messi.

    Saved by Courtois!

    messi with a peno

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,258 ✭✭✭✭y0ssar1an22

    and he misses!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,124 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

You could just see it was gonna happen. Both the penalty and save

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,179 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

I knew Messi wasn't going to score that penalty.

Stupid challenge and not a good penalty either

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,124 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Is Messi the best penalty taker on that team or is it just cause he is Messi ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,296 ✭✭✭✭MisterAnarchy

    Because he is Messi

He missed a penalty against PSG last season at the same stage of the tournament.

Is Bernardo Silva extra motivated by playing Sporting given his Benfica roots?

    On fire tonight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,124 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

PSG keep dribbling and dragging the ball into the traffic around the box. It's so frustrating to watch.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,725 ✭✭✭✭blueser

And Ederson. And Cancelo. And Dias. All of them played for Benfica at some stage. I'd imagine they're enjoying tonight!

    Mbappe!

What a goal. He's in some form.

Good goal by Mbappe. PSG deserved the win.

mbappe gives PSG the lead very late on

    Sweet little goal from Mbappe

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Sets things up nicely for the second leg. Madrid will have to go for it, leaving space for PSG on the counter. Hopefully a good few goals in that one.

Gutting to not hold out for that final minute, but I'd say knowing that the best player on the pitch will be on their side next season takes a bit of the edge off the defeat!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,124 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

There was a time when you would not believe a team with both Hazard and Bale would have problems going forward

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,088 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

Missed the games but that was a lovely goal by Mbappe.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,507 ✭✭✭✭castletownman

Mbappe is like a hybrid of Henry and Brazilian Ronaldo.

What a player. Absolutely skint a fella for his goal chance just before his winner too.

Courtois very good in goal for Real tonight, says a lot about the overall flow of the game really.

Huge win for City, a Handy draw really buy ruthless. Huge gap in quality between the top of the EPL and most of the other leagues now, going to be more of an issue with every year. Only Bayern, Paris, the 2 big Spanish teams can compete with them at this stage, and Barca have almost gone bust.

Disappointing to see a team built on a history of exciting, attacking football reduced to playing that muck tonight.

Madrid were very average, and I think shows that they aren't getting any competition in La Liga. Casemiro was very good tonight, but why they are still playing with the geriatric pairing of Kroos and Modric I don't know. They slow everything down.

Thought they should have introduced Bale earlier. It was obvious after 1st half that Vini Jr wasn't getting any change out of the psg defence. They brought on Hazard too, a man who used to run at defences, now he is also a guy who just walks around holding the play up. This Madrid team was taken to the cleaners by Chelsea last time, I think it would be best to get out of the tournament before they meet an epl team again, cos it'll not be a contest.

I can see a draw in the return leg, with an average looking psg team going through.

It'll be interesting to see in the coming weeks how the no away goal rule plays out.

It looked for all the world last night that Madrid had zero interest in scoring, certainly didn't commit any numbers to counter attacks which you would think they would if the old rule was in place.

Maybe PSG were just that much better than them, but it'll be interesting to see how the next phase of the 3 competitions play out. Will the away teams all tend to park the bus rather than look for the away goal which has no extra reward.

I wouldn't have either Real or Barca anywhere near the top teams right now. Generally I would be more worried about Atletico even though they are having a bad season

Real apparently have no money too but are also apparently going to sign Mbappe. Very interesting finances in that league.

Absolutely delighted PSG won that Real Madrid were an absolute disgrace playing for their 0-0 pure cowardice.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,634 ✭✭✭theoneeyedman

II agree they're nowhere near right now, I was thinking more medium to long term. The gap between the EPL and a few mega sized European clubs and the rest seems to be growing, and Real and Barca should be in that top bracket, probably more so than Atleti

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,497 ✭✭✭ArnoldJRimmer

I've never understood the attitude that a team are a 'disgrace' for playing defensively. Defending is part of the game too, and Real are inferior to PSG right now, so why get a hiding? Its also not necessarily boring. Thinking back a long time, the game between Barca at their peak and Mourinho's Inter was a fascinating game of attack versus defence, and it worked. What does annoy me is when a superior team still plays defensively, such as Spain boring their way to the 2010 World Cup.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,296 ✭✭✭✭MisterAnarchy

Maybe not the best example, Barcelona vs Inter, Barcelona were completely rode in the first leg, a decent ref and it would have been a very different result.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,128 ✭✭✭Fattybojangles

Real Madrid were 100% a disgrace last night they are not vastly inferior to PSG at all they played like a third division team away to a PL team in the cup it was shocking.

Inter adopted a counter attack strategy in an attempt to win the game and it worked Real had no intention of trying to win that game last night.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,124 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

It would have worked for Jose's Chelsea against Barca except Chelsea were completely rode so maybe that's a better example.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Bastoni's having a good season. Looking forward to seeing how he fares against Salah. Think Inter need a win tonight as I can't see them getting anything at Anfield.

Liverpool playing back to back games in the same stadium, against different teams. Which is pretty unique.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Bayern are a goal down at Salzburg.

Thiago has been such a disappointing signing for Liverpool....he was fantastic at Bayern

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,232 ✭✭✭TheRiverman

Inter Milan much the better team, van Dijk just hoofing the ball down field.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Getting rid of away goals has made the first legs far less interesting.

The post is still true really at least the first bit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Inter look done for now. Haven't had the final ball when required.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,205 ✭✭✭fyfe79

Inter were the better team for about 20 mins in the 2nd half. You'd expect that, at least, from any Italian side in the CL knock-outs. Liverpool slightly the better team in the 1st half and have now put the game to bed.

Coman with a stoppage time equaliser for Bayern.
