Good move for the lad if he signs with a championship team that could be challenging for the league and have been in the last two play offs.

If he gets into the team and is playing well, as you said Kenny could have a headache, but don't think you'll see him in a senior squad until next year.

Egan, Duffy, and O'Shea look to be the his three main guys. You've got Coleman that can fill in their and then Collins who'll more than likely move to the seniors with Omobamidele dropping back to the U21s.

In fairness, the lad is still only 19, same age as Troy Parrott, just feels like he's been around for ages.

I am not sure West Ham is the best move for him. Moyes didn't give Coventry or Odubeko any chances last season, and both players were ripping it up in the reserves.

Hope it works out for him but I would not be optimistic. Think your right this will just be him sitting in another reserve team. Can't say I know anything in depth first hand but from what I hear he seems to have some attitude issues which are not helping.

I rate Dunne. Did well in Scotland a few years ago.

Why hasnt Nathan Collins been called up to the senior squad. if he is so highly thought of. seems strange. I know he is only 20 but we have other players around the same age who have been called up.

The other players the same age are in positions where we are struggling for quality. The same is not true in NC's position.
He will get there. No need for panic

Oh, I didn't know he was injured. look forward to seeing him play in the future. If he is as good as they say, he should be getting in the team ahead of Duffy and O Shea.

Probably the best decision for the lad at this time. Wolfsburg scraped their reserve side so he'll be in training with the seniors, or loaned out to St. Pölten in Austria's second tier.

Not surprised to see Mick looking to bring in the Irish lads currently out of contract. If Brady is viewed as Harry Wilson's replacement they'll need to sign someone else for when Brady is in the treatment room, and given the championships schedule combined with his injury record he'll possibly be there quite a bit. Still no word on any possible clubs looking to sign McCarthy.

Crazy to think that if none of our starting midfield three for euro '16 played another game for us we wouldn't blink an eyelid.

‘We all ask so much from our goalkeepers, they’ve got to be like Xavi haven’t they!

‘I like my goalkeepers to have presence, I like them to be fast, we want to press really high so I like them to be able to play high out of their goal – and be comfortable doing it.

‘I want them to come and sweep behind that high defensive line.

‘I like them to be really aggressive in their decision making – there’s nothing better than a goalkeeper coming to catch a cross and taking the pressure off your defence.

‘We definitely like them to be able to distribute well. It’s a lovely feeling when you’ve got one that has got all the clubs and it’s a key attribute for us.

‘If you actually watch goalkeepers in the Euros, about 90 per cent of their job is actually distribution with their feet.
Great that they consider Bazunu as that type of player.

I wouldn't have said good quick distribution was particularly one of his strengths - but hopefully it will be after this season's loan doing it.

I don't know that he was ever warm on McCarthy to be fair. Think that might just have been lazy journalism. McCarthy being a local lad out of contract available on a free and Celtic needing a holding mid this summer with Brown gone. Where ever McCarthy ends up hope he stays injury free and can at least enjoy a positive few years to end his career at the top level.

He works in the country he was born in ie the UK. Surely the onus is on that country to accomodate all of their citizens regardless of their religion, political affiliations and beliefs?

The UK government should be ensuring that there are equal opportunities for all their citizens rather than concentrating all of the wealth (football wise) in England.

At least they got to experience a good senior career before injuries took their toll, poor Tommie Hobans career never got a proper chance to take off before injuries ruined it.

See he's now linked with Crewe in League One after his contract at Aberdeen expired. Still only 27 and broke into the Watford team at 18 and had interest from premier league teams.

Former Ireland underage captain Seamas Keogh has signed for Sligo Rovers having been released from Southampton. He was with Rovers academy prior to signing for Southampton this time 3 years ago.

Hes just turned 19 so still plenty of time to live up to his early potential. Playing week in/out in senior competitive football will do him the world of good. Will certainly be keeping an eye out for him.

I'd find it hard to believe someone will be pulling up trees at senior level if they're going from a PL team back to LOI.

Looks like L2 or L1 will be his max ceiling, so not going to help the Ireland team anyway.

Another lad returns home because we treat the game as a hobby here rather than a profession. With all the recent talk and presentations that were done something badly needs to happen because lads like Keogh will now have to wait until they're 18 rather than 16 to get the level of training needed to prepare for a life as a pro footballer.

Would be great to see lads expand their horizons and look to the continent, but that route is even more difficult than the UK route.

Either it's time to get serious about elite youth football, or tell FIFA to make an exception to the new rules that allows Irish kids back into the UK at a younger age.

But speaking of Sligo, can see young Johnny Kenny making the move abroad in the next year now that he's finished his leaving cert. Did he break the record of youngest player to score a hat trick recently?

With the new Brexit rules, if we copied the Belgian system by age 18 wed have some serious crop of players that would probably bring in more money for the league clubs and would also have some staying in the league with probably a bit more interest from the average joe.

    thoughts on meyler similar?

Not sure what Meyler did, but likely it’s not relevant? Former footballer and seems to be living In Ireland, so if he did the exactly same as what McClean did then it’s hardly as much of an issue as he hasn’t pissed off the fans he’ll be playing in front of, painting yet another target on his back.

For the short term we should be looking to someone like Luxembourg, who haven't got the teams needed to develop players so have developed a national academy. Even Northern Ireland are now getting funding from FIFA I think for their national academy.

Longer term your goal should be getting LOI academies up to Shamrock Rovers academy in terms of standards as a minimum. But you'll never get that because there isn't any football industry here because it's treated as a past time.

Strawman argument. If anything McClean just shows up the worst parts of English society.
Nobody can point to one hurtful thing he has done. Most has been firmly in the satirical side of things.
In terms of referencing the IRA he's don't nothing more proactive than say the likes of Steve Coogan has but there's one fundamental difference there.
As for the insinuation that he should simply work somewhere else, that's a slippery slope.

Excellent move for the lad. A League One club that's been pushing for promotion the last few seasons. If his career can continue to rise as it has then the lad could be first choice at a Premier League by 23 in four years.

City must have high hopes that he can potentially take over from Ederson in time. Getting him these loan moves at 18/19 to lower league clubs who like to try play it out from the back.

he also posted a pic of himself in a germany jersey. if football fans are upset over a player wearing a shirt id suggest they grow up.

Well, as I said, he’s not going to be running out of the tunnel in front of tens of thousands of those fans in 8 weeks time. He’s a retired footballer, living in a different country to them, so moot point really.
McClean gets dogs abuse, and something badly needs to be done about it, but he just can’t stay off social media and getting himself involved in stupid **** so there’s an element of bringing the attention on himself.

As for the grow up comment, well English fans aren’t exactly know for their level headed-ness, are they? So while that would be great, it ain’t gonna happen.

I dunno, I'm not necessarily upset over him wearing a German top but I do think stuff like that and more so the ballacalva undermine the excellent points he's made on not wearing a Poppy. It's very easy for the English media to brush over all the abuse he gets because of those acts, but how could the media brush over it if it's just because he won't wear a Poppy to pay tribute to soliders who murdered innocent people in Derry.

He is a footballer posting about a football match. I doubt he was the only guy born in the UK supporting Germany yesterday.

Gay Byrne once said he wanted Donegal to win the all Ireland instead of Dublin. Was he attention seeking worthy of being abused?

Again if the UK provided equal opportunities for all of their citizens in their home country then the issue wouldn't arise. But because they insist of segregation by nation in football then they should deal with the issue.

TLDR it is the UKs problem. Not James McCleans

Is this the same English media who'll word articles different when a black English footballer spends money compared to a white English footballer.

Similar I was surprised to see how old he was. Thought he'd have been in Byrne's age group for the U21s but would have been underage for the last campaign. Now has two years to put the grind in to get that next move.

Also see Nuno has officially been announced as Spurs manager. Should be good news for Doherty, but that's if Nuno wants to keep him and go back to 3-4-3.

There is a big difference between getting pelters and some of the flat out anti Irish racist abuse never mind death threats he has and does get regularly. That is not ok regardless of what you think of things like yesterdays instagram post in Kroos's jersey.
