Randolph to Villa has fallen through. Same for Christie to Swansea.

Can't see Long moving far from the Southampton area. It's probably why he agreed to the Bournemouth loan at the time as it's only down the road.

It's gonna be hard to temp him to a new club I'd say. Has been getting paid an arm and leg to sit on the bench the last few years. Might just want out of football at this stage.

Southampton to Portsmouth is like going from Everton to Liverpool afaik. They hate each other

They have had their struggles this season but doubt they will go down. So the Irish contingent there under Goodwin should be fine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,990 ✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Yeah Norwich fans are giving him some praise for that much improved performance and some recognising him as the best player for them last night.

One thing noticeable amongst the praise is fans not happy with Sargent who missed tonight as his wife had a baby, and will probably walk back into the team at the weekend.

Fabiański pulled off a top class save to deny Idah just before he came off. One swallow doesn't make a summer, but hopefully Norwich keep Pukki and Idah as their front two and he gets more game time like that before next season. Last night he showed he could be an effective player for them next season.

Tranmere didn't get the win but Lee O'Connor impressing again in their draw with Salford last night. Big few months for the lad to try and impress clubs for a possible move in the summer. Celtic will surely want to regain some money though they'll be entitled to compensation if he walks on a free at the end of next season.

Owen Cowzer has an article where he talks with Danny McNamara about the Irish senior team. Apparently Kenny name checked him last month as someone who could break into the senior team in 2022.

Also talks about Connor Ronan, Marcus Harness, and Mark Sykes when talking about watching players leading up to March and wanting to add depth to the squad for June.

Good... couple of fringe lads there now in Christie, Manning, and Obafemi. Hopefully they can lift each other up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,700 ✭✭✭Gusser09

Not overly important for us how Christie goes tbh. He's well behind Coleman and Doherty. With the new lad from WBA perhaps coming onboard and Jonjo Kennys eligibility he might not feature to much for us going forward. He's never let us down but hasn't improved things either.

Hopefully Lee O'Connor can keep impressing and get a season at League 1 and see where that takes him.

On Shane Long, at 50k a week why the hell would he go anywhere. At his age it's all about maximizing his income. You feel that he could still do a job for us coming off the bench with the game stretched but that doesn't seem to be the direction that Kenny wants to go in which is fair enough. Is there really enough room in the squad for Keane (League 1), Collins and Idah who are pretty similar. Surely we'd be better of having something a little different in Long but there you go.

I dont think its neccesarily Inevtiable that shane long maximizes income at this stage of his career. Its a choice he made while financially well off. Other players would have made different choices because they love playing football and being involved.

While i understand money is great lets not totally excuse The choices he made.

Kelleher back on the bench. Not surprising that they'd want to start Allison after being out with Covid.

He scores. That is more than Parrott is going at the same level

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,700 ✭✭✭Gusser09

I don't think Christie is a great option as a backup. Probably backup by default. Not as if we have a dearth of players playing in that position. You'd have thought that the FAI would have approached Jonjo Kenny and Gardner-hicks. Maybe they have who knows. On Long, yes I was talking about his decision to not move over the last few years. Why would he on the money he earns. A championship club will probably look at him next year on at most half money he currently gets. The likes of South West London wouldn't be to far really if he wanted to stay in the area. At the same time it looks like he won't play for us again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,330 ✭✭✭Did you smash it

Why would long move? The reason for long moving would be to play games. His totally acceptable choice was to earn while already very rich. However It was a choice rather than a no brainer.

Derby County are under a transfer embargo and the grapevine suggests that any of their players are free to leave if they want. Two players have already left, let's hope that Knight can push for a move away. Don't think it'd be unreasonable for Ebosele to find a Championship club who might want to punt on him as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,518 ✭✭✭kowloonkev

I think they should both definitely stay put until the end of the season and keep playing games. Maybe if Knight was to be signed by a PL club and loaned back to Derby until the summer that might be a good idea.

Next Man City manager: You lot may all be internationals and have won all the domestic honours there are to win under Pep. But as far as I'm concerned, the first thing you can do for me is to chuck all your medals and all your caps and all your pots and all your pans into the biggest **** dustbin you can find, because you've never won any of them fairly. You've done it all by bloody cheating.

Unless Derby have no say about players being sold and someone has to be sold to raise money then I can't see lads leaving. The transfer embergo was because they couldn't prove they'd have the funds to finish the season without a takeover. Aren't allowed to renew contracts either which is why Phil Jagielka hasn't renewed his contract. Think they're only allowed use certain U23s players so couldn't even replace players leaving with youth team players.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,990 ✭✭✭johnnyryan89

McGuinness and Lenihan start against each other in the early kick off. Good chance for McGuiness to stand out against a fellow Irish CB whose in the form of his career.

Travers starts as usual and Kilkenny is on the bench. Robbie Brady not in the match day squad for the second game in a row, and Bournemouth had a game postponed in-between. Would be his luck if he's picked up an injury after being in the previous four squads and playing in three of those games.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,990 ✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Norwich fans happy to see Idah starting again and that Sargent didn't start ahead of him. Hopefully Norwich keep the same formation and Idah can improve on his performance from the West Ham game.

Reading aren't great so a good team for Connolly to be making his debut against and hopefully gets himself off to good start.

    Browne scores for Preston aswell

The kind of goals its good to see him getting. Scrappy. If anything the first touch helps him less time to think about the finish.

Hogan scores a nice glancing header from a cross.

    Idah had a storming game.

Festy Ebosele with an assist in Derby's win over Sheffield United. According to LiveScore he played the match at left back rather than his usual right hand side. Knight also played the 90 minutes. No Louie Watson but Erin Cashin, a centre back, came on for the last 7 minutes.

Troy Parrott also came on for the last 7 minutes for MK Dons. That's so disappointing to see where he's at now in his young career.

Lenihan will a clean sheet again for Blackburn. Made all the more impressive that they played the last 15 minutes with 10 men. Surely he's done enough for a recall to the Irish team in the next round of fixtures.

Connolly started for Boro but was hauled off just after the hour mark. Still good to see him starting games again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,909 ✭✭✭Coillte_Bhoy

Chris Sutton was full of praise for him on Twitter

"Huge win. A performance to be proud of. Standards set now. Adam Idah has so much potential well played"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,700 ✭✭✭Gusser09

Connolly hauled off and they go on to score twice.

Parrott looks to be in a bit of trouble if we're honest. Where he goes after this is anyones guess. Could struggle to stay in League one at this rate.

Jimmy Dunne with another solid 90 for qpr and clean sheet. We're good for CBs anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,797 ✭✭✭✭Francie Barrett

Ebosele has a real chance of making the senior team on this form

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,990 ✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Had a very good game today going by the stats. Most chances created (3), won the most tackles (3), won the most duels (13). Would like to see him bypass the U21s as Crawford will probably still with O'Connor at RB. Though McNamara being name checked by Kenny might make his debut in March.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,990 ✭✭✭johnnyryan89

He'll be back at MK Dons next I think. They'll lose both Twine and O'Riley in the summer and will need to rebuild. Though if Transfermarkt are correct they say his loan ends in 2023 but say that's being mixed up with his Spurs contract (signed 3.5yr contract two years ago).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,597 ✭✭✭Ferris_Bueller

Delighted for Idah. Didn't see the game but seems like two solid performances in a row for him and he has scored the winner which is huge for Norwich. Our best bet at a good centre forward IMO.

Hard to know what will happen with Parrott, if he was let go for free by Spurs what kind of club would take a chance on him?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 838 ✭✭✭rebelomar

Idah had a very good game today. His all round game was really impressive while he still looked a bit jittery around the box with the final shot etc.

You would hope the goal will give him some confidence and stop him second guessing himself in the box.

Physically he was a powerhouse and linked play nicely.

He was so unlucky with that effort against West Ham midweek. It would have been an amazing goal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,281 ✭✭✭✭ben.schlomo

Shearer was full of praise for Idah's performance on MOTD. He was the only part of the Norwich post game punditry bit.

Alot of praise for Idah om MOTD tonight...showed some really good clips of his link up play

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,597 ✭✭✭Ferris_Bueller

Oh yeah I know he wouldn't be short of offers, but I meant I wonder at what level they would be at. Would a Premier League club still see the potential in him? Based on his current ability you would think he needs to play around this level again next season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,797 ✭✭✭✭Francie Barrett

Looks like Knight is leaving Derby. They club needs to show they have cash of £8m in the bank by the end of January. It's not looking good for a new owner to be in place by then, so they will have to sell someone.

    https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/derby-county-set-to-sell-8m-captain-jason-knight-b97ms22wz

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,990 ✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Some Premier League clubs would still look at him. Brentford often pick up young free agents or cheap players they feel could come good but you'll be going into their B team or sent out on loan.

Definitely should be staying in League One again next season. Wouldn't be surprised to see him back at MK Dons. They're going to lose a few players in the summer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,797 ✭✭✭✭Francie Barrett

Newcastle would be okay too I think. The competition for places would be less and I'd see him getting ahead of Shelvey or Longstaff. Even if they get relegated, they would almost certainly go back up.

Burnley would be the move to avoid I think. If they go down, they will struggle to get back up. They are being linked with Andy Carroll to help keep them up, which surely says all you need to know about the ambition of the owners to invest in survival.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,742 ✭✭✭Dr. Bre

If rooney goes to Everton maybe he will take Knight with him!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,990 ✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Birmingham and Wigan are the two clubs named showing interest in McGrath. Wigan had a 300k bid turned down last summer for McGrath.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,700 ✭✭✭Gusser09

I think Knight playing another season in the Championship would be a sideways step. He really needs to get into the PL while still young enough. If he's good enough he will be fine. On Troy Parrott he needs to score goals at League One level. All a PL club would do with him is loan him out to a club at that level. He should be looking at getting settled somewhere for a few years and see if he can kick on. A stint back in the 21's wouldn't be the worst either maybe. Ebosele is an exciting one. A player that can play either LWB or RWB comfortably would be a massive addition for us. We're lacking on the left big time. Stevens isn't getting younger and we need competition there. Manning needs a bit more exposure too.

  • Registered Users Posts: 971 ✭✭✭AdrianG08

Tayo Adaramola is the next big thing at left back. Probably our most exciting prospect across all age groups in my opinion. Might not have to wait long to get into Palace's first team.

Ebosele and Adaramola as full backs is a very exciting prospect if they were to fulfill their potential. With the likes of Omabamidele and Nathan Collins at CB.

Next big thing in 3-4 years. Manning has played 150 games or so in the Championship. Tayo Adaramola won't be in our senior squad for a while yet.
