I wonder do Southampton have a buy back clause for Obafemi. They might regret it if they don't.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,991 ✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Nothing ever mentioned about it and the fees mentioned are 1.5m which could rise to 2m so sounds like they were happy to get a few quid for an academy player while they could and who they thought was probably gonna drop another league or two because of attitude issues.

Can see the same happening with Connolly this summer and Brighton cutting their losses and getting something for him before he walks on a free.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,168 ✭✭✭Christy Browne

Jesus I thought he was only on loan until now, £2m was an absolute bargain for a 20 year old with Premier League experience and goals. Swansea are laughing!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,701 ✭✭✭Gusser09

Travers with yet another clean sheet and huge performance. He'll be a PL number 1 next year and hes there on merit. Something we have lacked for a long while is gk playing regularly at that level. Seriously pushing bazunu now. Parker full of praise for him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,042 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

They spent a similar amount on Piroe who's been banging in the goals too, and is only 22... ~4 million for a young strike partnership with 36 goals between them already this season is some business!

Rumours of Bazunu to Sheffield United which would be a great loan imo

They should be challenging for promotion anyway

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,510 ✭✭✭population

It'll put him above Kelleher in the reckoning probably. Bazunu still No.1 though. Has done nothing wrong for us.

In a way, it's nearly bad for him to have been promoted - just in that he's gonna go from getting loads of clean sheets to likely conceding a tonne of goals in a team that's under a lot of pressure week in week out. Life at a freshly promoted team is always rough enough after the highs of a dominant league campaign the year before.

Hopefully they can be more of a Brentford than a Norwich or Watford (both conceding 2+ goals per game) anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,991 ✭✭✭johnnyryan89

I don't think they'll go for him because Foderingham was one of the best keepers in the league this season. Third in the clean sheet table, two less than Travers but only played 31 games as started the season as back up.

Can see both Bournemouth and Fulham doing a Norwich and Watford next season. Nothing about Marco Silva or Scott Parker convinces me they've got what it takes to keep their teams from being relegated next season. If he can get Forest promoted could see Cooper pulling off what Wilder, Beilsa, and Frank did by having a first good season after promotion. As a manager think he's more tactically astute than the other two and would have a better chance of keeping his team up.

Obviously betting odds don't mean much but Eustace the early front runner in the betting for the Watford job. Was at Watford for six seasons as a player and captained Watford.

Probably won't be the only club he's linked with this summer with Burnley and QPR looking for new managers.

Looks like tickets for Ukraine and Scotland match are on general sale tomorrow at 11am. Ticketmaster have links up on their site.

Nathan Collins named amongst good company for the April player of the month award. The only defender named in the list too and still qualifies for the U21s.

Still surprises me that a big club, especially Man United didn't look to get him on the cheap and develop him. Ticks all the boxes of tall, athletic, and good with the ball at his feet.

Fair bit of Irish interest in the League One play off this evening between Wycombe and MK Dons.

Ive said it before if himself, Travers and Bazunu were English you'd be talking 30-40 million now. Those 3 are as good as anyone in the uk at that age.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,486 ✭✭✭Brussels Sprout

Bazunu has finished up with Portsmouth. Sounds like he's eager to play rather than sit on the bench. I presume that City won't want to sell him so hopefully a loan with a Championship club next season (unless they'd loan him to a premier league side)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,991 ✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Next season will help get Travers a move to an established Premier League team. Nothing will be expected of Bournemouth next season and will be one of the favourites to be relegated. If Travers can impress again along with the season he's just had he'll have teams after him. Besides Solanke he's probably Bournemouth's biggest asset. Definitely in the top three as Billings is a decent player too.

MK Dons on the telly anywhere tonight? Playing against Wycombe in the L1 playoffs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,991 ✭✭✭johnnyryan89

It's on Sky Sports so shouldn't be hard to find it somewhere to watch.

Bazunu being linked with a move to Southampton. Both Forster and McCarthy are out of contract this summer. Though hard to see Southampton looking towards a loan signing to replace Forster if his contract isn't renewed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,183 ✭✭✭✭pjohnson

Southampton do use the loan market regularly tbf and dont mind giving younger players a chance.

Be a very good move if it happened (assuming City will look for him to actually be the #1 of course). Could even get a second year there if things go well.

They do, but feel goalkeeper might be the one position a premier league team wouldn't risk bringing in a young player on loan to be their no1. Sheffield United did it alright with Henderson but he was with them when they got promoted.

If Southampton are really interested could see them wanting Bazunu permanently rather than a loan signing. And if City are willing to sell him would rather see him move to a team on the continent that's playing in Europe if possible.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,183 ✭✭✭✭pjohnson

Watford also did it with Ben Foster spending multiple years on loan with them, Joe Hart had a full year at Birmingham so its not unheard of for a loaned keeper to be fisrt choice.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,701 ✭✭✭Gusser09

City could very well sell Bazunu this year but rest assured there will be a buy back clause in the contract which means they will have have first refusal on him.

I can't see Southampton or another PL team using him as their number 1. He has only consistently played at League 1 level so it might be seen as too risky. A full season in the championship would crown him I'd feel and I think that would be a loan move. You look how much Travers has come on this season from playing at that level. It's a decent level all things considered and he'd get 40 - 50 games again. At southampton he'd probably be number 2 and lucky to see 6-7 cup games.

Likely he will go to the Championship and play regularly and with Travers playing in the PL regularly I think Kelleher has a huge decision to make this summer. He will be number 3 if not playing at all. It's possible he is happy enough though with this and will stay put. At 24 in November he needs to be playing and I think a season in the championship would be great for him. It's really hard to gauge how good the lad is until he does it consistently like Travers and Bazunu for 50 games on the trot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,991 ✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Ben Foster was another Dean Henderson, won promotion with Watford in his first season and they brought him back for a second season in the PL. Joe Hart was Man City's first choice keeper the season before he went on loan to newly promoted Birmingham though. Only lost his place mid way through the season because they bought Shay Given.

Teams have brought in keepers on loan to be their first choice but don't think anyone has brought in a kid, even one whose got the potential to be world class, to be their first choice after two seasons in League One. Especially an established PL team too.

Now if they do then it's great news for us but see a PL move this summer being more viable if it's a transfer rather than a loan, unless it's a loan which allows you to buy.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,177 ✭✭✭Fandymo

Didn't Southampton have Angus Gunn in on loan as first choice goalie for a season?? Or was he out on loan from Southampton.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,991 ✭✭✭johnnyryan89

They bought him from City as back up to McCarthy. Ended the season as first choice but lost his place the following season when Leicester beat them 9-0.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,177 ✭✭✭Fandymo

Yeah looked it up. He was at Norwich on loan in Chship and played every game for them. That's what convinced Southampton to pay £13.5m for him.

Lads just be aware that there is an inflated market when it comes to young English players in general. I wouldn't compare what the market price would be for Gunn v Bazunu or Travers v Ramsdale. The English players always go for about 30-40 per cent more. The clubs will take a risk on the younger English players making them regular starters due to the potential windfalls if they are consistent for a season or two.

Take Ben White for example. 50 Million to Arsenal. Now I'd consider Collins better than him but do you see any of the top 8 teams spending 50 million on Collins? Maybe 30 million - 35 million but that would be it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,991 ✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Gavin Kilkenny gets a rare start for Bournemouth in the final league game of the season. Hasn't played a game since December 18th. Hopefully gets a loan move next season for regular game time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,389 ✭✭✭✭Liam O

Collins is nowhere near Ben White in fairness. He is 3 years younger however and I don't think CBs really ever become world class until they are at least 25 or 26 these days so he has time on his side.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,701 ✭✭✭Gusser09

Yet another clean sheet for Travers today. Great season for the youngster and it will only benefit us having a PL number 1.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,117 ✭✭✭✭Quazzie

Nathan Collins better than Ben White 🤣🤣🤣🤣

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,701 ✭✭✭Gusser09

Theres lads havent seen a lot of Ben White this season.

Incredible end to the season for Bristol Rovers

    #only1glennwhelan

Other Irish interest is Trevor Clarke at left back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,180 ✭✭✭Xander10

I was surprised no one gave Glen a mention on here yesterday. Never deserved the level of stick he got from Dunphy & Co when playing for Ireland.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Home & Garden Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 22,408 CMod ✭✭✭✭Pawwed Rig

I always rated him highly. You can see how bad the midfield got once he wasn't picked. Only now is he being replaced with Josh Cullen. He was one of those players that you don't realise how good they are until they are gone.

Fair play to him. Despite being limited you could never question his desire to play for ireland.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,800 ✭✭✭✭Francie Barrett

Springett was brought on for a half of football to make his debut for Norwich today. Norwich were pathetic, but Springett was one of the better performers. Wouldn't be surprised if he gets more minutes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,168 ✭✭✭Christy Browne

Parrott makes it 1-0 to MK Dons on the night against Wycombe with a lovely header across goal, still 2-1 down on aggregate. Coventry, O'Hora and Horgan all on the pitch.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,331 ✭✭✭Did you smash it

Parrott scores. His strike partner Twine could have robbed the goal on the line. Sound of him not to

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,991 ✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Similar to Cashin I wouldn't be surprised if we never got round to getting his paperwork sorted. Still underage for the U21s next season and should see more minutes with Norwich in the Championship.

Parrott playing well out there and nearly got a second only for a last ditch tackle. Really hope MK Dons get an equaliser here, it would be brilliant if they got promoted and held onto Parrott and Coventry.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,991 ✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Should really have been two nil before the break when Parrott put a good chance from a well worked corner wide. Should have really been hitting the target.

Think if MK Dons had managed to get promoted that Parrott wouldn't have returned with Spurs looking for him to go to a team who weren't odds on to be fighting a relegation battle.

Good chance now that Liam Manning gets picked up by a championship team and possibly bring Coventry with him given their West Ham link. Similar with Anthony Scully who was also managed by Manning at West Ham's U23s.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,800 ✭✭✭✭Francie Barrett

He had a decent game, could easily have had more than one goal. Unfortunately it was not to be for Dons. Will be interesting to see where he ends up next year. QPR are apparently in for him, which would be a good test of where his ability is at.

Coventry another one who will be at a new club next year. He's 22 now and will be going into the final year of his contract next year. Surely should be able to secure a permanent move to the Championship next year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,701 ✭✭✭Gusser09

Massive season for parrot next year. I dont think he can afford to under perform next year in the championship. Will it be a permanent move for him at this stage. Probably.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,597 ✭✭✭Ferris_Bueller

A good season for Parrott overall you'd have to say. He has had a great second half to the season and as others have said is now likely to get a Championship move. Has reached double digits for goals which I think was a reasonable target at the start of the season.

If Manning leaves I would like to see him link up with him again, he seemed to have a positive influence on Parrott and rates him highly, plus that system is very similar to the one Ireland play. I reckon one more loan spell before Spurs ship him on.
