Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Shambolic start so far.

Should be ahead, great effort by Egan.

Yep but before that was a shambles. Starting to get settled in now.

Good to see another great set piece even if he couldn’t keep it another few inches down. Hopefully will stop being one of the more regular sticks we see getting rattled around here as it’s clearly something there’s been work on.

The Hungary player pointing at the respect badge on his shirt. Was that directed at the Ireland players or the crowd booing? My phone rang I got distracted.

They point at that instead as the fans would probably riot if they took a knee.

That playing out from the back is hilariously bad

Good to see big D back

Hourihane gets a chance to cross with his left foot and barely hits it.

He has to do better than that

Much better passage of play there

Can't see any reason for his inclusion.

Duffy looks to be playing with a bit of confidence, good to see.

That turn and burst upfield by parrot is exactly what we've been calling for. Excellent

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,054 ✭✭✭D.Q

Parrott and idah need to pick up the intensity with the press

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,790 ✭✭✭✭Francie Barrett

We are so predictable when we try to play out from the back. We are too slow, take far too many touches and give the opposition too much time to box us in and force the mistake.

What position is knight supposed to be playing?

What bothers me is that they will stick with it come what may. Why not mix it up when it's not working, go long for a few mins to see how that goes, then back to playing it out. Like you said, less predictable.

Presume it's some gesture along the lines of "respect for all". So avoid taking the knee in a country with a right wing Government and where BLM probably doesn't have much support.

Still a lot of Irish lads standing around when another Irish player is in possession. Just watching on.

This is Cullen and hourihane all over. They pretend to show for the ball. Both of them hiding in ****ing central midfield. No wonder nothing is linking up.

We had a rocky start then got going but the last few minutes we seem to have lost our way again.

Cullen and Hourihane not doing much and O'Shea keeps giving the ball away

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,108 ✭✭✭happyoutscan

O'Shea is starting to get on my tits.

I think it could be a very painful tournament for Hungary over the next few weeks . They have no attacking threat at all

They're also in the group of death

For a big man Idah is a bit soft

I assume they're playing more defensive because of who they're playing in the tournament. Don't envy them one bit.

Idah with a bit of a twist in the knee, looks sore.

They've gone long a bit more tonight.

Quite comfortable so far. Final ball is terrible and as others have said, the midfield 2 not doing enough

That's as good a cross as you'll see.

So far has the feel of a game where if you went away for 20 minutes from the screen you would not have missed much.
Ireland at least look reasonably solid and don't look as if they are going to doing anything daft. At least McClean put a decent ball in I suppose.

Unsure how serious Hungary are taking it though, avoiding injuries for Portugal. As Lisa Fallon said in the analysis Hungary are going to play counter attack defensive, particularly with the group they have.

So if Ireland do manage a goal I think it will at least have to be earned.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Duffy is looking our most comfortable defender tonight because it looks like he's been told by Kenny to play it long if he needs to. Our best bits of play have been with crosses, set pieces, or going long.

    Half time 0-0

Playing away from home, to a team that qualified for Euro 2021, a rather partisan home crowd, around 6 under 21's in our team and we are well in this game.

A few positives, a few negatives and a few players that probably shouldn't be there.

Limited them to one real effort and had 1 very good one too.

Have to be pretty happy overall with that first half.

Some quality balls going in to the Hungarian box

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,937 ✭✭✭✭Kermit.de.frog

On balance Ireland should be ahead. Solid enough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,468 ✭✭✭✭lawred2

    That's not terrible. Reasonably competitive.

I'll take that over anything from the last 5/6 years.
