Last year's game between Tipp and KK was one of the worst inter county games I've ever seen. This year came close for a while. People saying this game was as bad weren't at last year's game or have short memories.

Tipp lost two players early. When players see a player going off injured early the gremlins can set it. I could be out for the league or the year here too.

Kilkenny came to win but the harder they tried in the first half the worse it got.

Plethora of concerning wides from both sides. Awful shooting.

We had a rookie full-back line for most of the game. Down to fourth and fifth choice

Our form players this short year so far, have been Forde, Stapleton, O'Connor, Brian McGrath, Sean Ryan, McCarthy, and Kennedy. Only Forde started. Ten changes from the last day. We're building a panel.

Got much needed minutes into players who haven't played this year. Seamie's first game for Tipp in a long time.

I think Tynan summed up our day, mixed the very good with the very bad. But like Tipp, there's a decent foundation to build on there. He's direct and takes his man on.

I liked the set up for the way we managed the game for the last 15 minutes. We had a plan for a change rather than trying to hurl ourselves out of it. We made Blanchfield look like a hoover but we were too busy clogging up space to care and hit them on the break. Every time they got within a couple of goals we tacked on a few points. It wasn't perfect but there was a plan and it can be built on now.

Serious questions to be asked of our physio. How did he let Barrett try to continue? Barrett would never admit he couldn't continue. He had to take the decision out of his hands.

wides and bad missed chances made this game look poor , but in terms of space and intensity it was one of the better games of the league , ye look a far better team then last year in terms of work rate

    whats paddy caddells story ?

Ankle injury. I don't know how bad yet. He was on crutches though.

Following medical assessment of a number of players who sustained injuries recently, the following is an update on each player.

Paddy Cadell suffered a Pivot shift injury to his left knee while playing against Kilkenny in the Allianz hurling league round 2 game in UPMC Nolan Park. On examination it has been confirmed that Paddy has suffered a cruciate ligament tear and will now miss the remainder of the 2023 intercounty season

Cathal Barrett collided with one of his own players during the same fixture , which has resulted in an un displaced fracture to the scapula. Cathal will be required to keep his arm in a sling for the next 3 weeks and at that point he should be able to commence his rehabilitation work. At this point it is expected that Cathal should be in a position to recommence some on field activity in 10 to 12 weeks.

Niall O Meara underwent a scan earlier this week following an injury to his groin picked up in a recent training session. Examination confirmed a tear of the adductor origin .Niall will commence his rehabilitation and at this point and it is hopeful that Niall can commence full training again in 6 to 7 weeks.

Very hard luck on the 3 boys. All serious injuries. It's going to be a very attritional season by the looks of it

3 months is tough on Cathal, we could well be out of the championship by the May bank holiday weekend.

Any hope of Craig Morgan or Barry Heffernan being back this year?

ACL is a minimum 9 month recovery, can't remember dates when both got injured but both was in club action.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,309 ✭✭✭evolvingtipperary101

    Barry Heff has a chance.

Morgan has an outside chance. Very unlikely.

Being honest, they'd be better off not to rush it and take a long time to strengthen the knee through rehab for the full nine months and longer. No point risking a career for one season.

Looks like Clare's plan to field the second team against Tipp in Ennis in prep for the Limerick championship game is bang on track.

Bubbles officially retired, long gone from the panel but a serious hurler on his day.

    €113,505 raised of €1,000,000 goal

Unbelievable day of funding for the Quirke Foundation today. I'm just posting some of the comments in here because I think the areas being represented and the comments coming in are wonderful.

I'm a massive Kilkenny hurling fan and our rivalry with Tipperary is something special, infused with tremendous mutual respect. Love of hurling means far more than supporting a particular team, notwithstanding the importance of parish & county, and it is a tremendous privilege to have the opportunity to make this modest contribution, on the day Tipperary & Kilkenny meet in honour of Dillon in Thurles. Dillon's memory will live forever, both in the hearts of hurling fans and through the work of the foundation founded in his honour. Love and blessings to the Quirke family, Clonoulty-Rossmore and the Tipperary GAA family, from here on the Isle of Lewis, in the west of Scotland.

Worth mentioning Stephen O Brien out for the footballers as well.

Think thats close to the best 8 or 9 of the best players unavailable from the 2020 Munster winners

Ciaran Connolly out for the year. Very disappointing. Had high hope for him this year.

Craig Morgan was dropped off the panel last month.

Seven changes from the last league game I think. A few interesting positional switches.

Due to Shelley's injury - a call up for Enda Dunphy.

O'Mara at full back is an interesting one, wonder if the Breen experiment is over.

You need back up options for these positions. No point in putting all your chips on one player.

Great to get the first win in Croke Park since the 19 final. Very tepid stuff. Dublin had some really bad wides under no pressure that could have given them a platform to build on. We very economical in the first half. Jason Forde in particular put on a masterclass.

Hard to know what was learnt about Bryan O'Mara at 3 dealt with everything really well but he came out to wingback in the second half for two minutes and cleaned up has an awful lot of hurling in him and we might need him on the ball more than at 3.

Brian McGrath was flying for the first 20 was the pick of the backs then he got treatment for a knee injury then got subbed off so hopefully it was only precautionary. Johnny Ryan had a good game very dogged and played his man from the front just leave him at four now and hopefully he kicks on.It was a very hard game to judge very little physicality and quite open and the second goal which was a desperate mistake by their keeper killed the game but we lost to them last year and bet them comfortably this year so that's a progress. Off to the pub now to hopefully warm up again

Serious young players on both Tipp sides again today. Look to have some very good half backs and midfielders coming through.

Fair play to Cashel - small school with a small pick. Excellent performances from them this year.

I suppose we can expect another six to 8 changes as per throughout the league for the Waterford game. Time for the new lads to be exposed to a bit of pressure at Semple. I'm thinking Sean Ryan, O'Dwyer, the Campions, McCarthy, Enda Heffernan, Connolly, Bowe, Kehoe. Be a good time to see how Seamie and John McGrath is moving and get some minutes in their legs.

At the same time we've only 3 or 4 games left and 6 weeks out from championship, Cahill needs to start settling on his full back/centre back/center forward/full forward sooner rather than later.
