Loved TOD summing up the bittersweet feeling as a tournament comes towards the end.

Mental really. One of the best headers in the world against cbs that would be below average height. The one cross that found a man was their best chance in the game. Teams are too focussed on coming inside now. England were the same against scotland.

Wonder will Ronaldo hang around with Portugal for another year and head to Qatar...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,674 ✭✭✭AllGunsBlazing

It would probably be better for Portugal if he hung it up. They have to sort out a new way of playing the ball forward.

Don't see him calling quits with that new record looming on the horizon.

They are pretty short on attackers, he’ll have the record in his sights for sure...

They had a bit of luck - on another night some of Portugal's chances towards the end would have gone in - but overall Belgium deserved it. They were just that little bit better than Portugal.

Maybe the game wasn't chock full of quality, but I thought it was absorbing enough.

Ah, surely, he'd be mad to retire from Internationals with the WC only 18 months away.

    I'd say he'll stick around.

He has Serbia, Luxembourg, Azerbaijan and us as whipping boys to look forward to in the '22 WC Group. So I'd say he'll use those games to get some space between him and Ali Daei on the record scorer chart.

Probably, be thinking if he would want to just make up the numbers and put in the effort if his team are going to be under par..

He'll be up against Shane Duffy in a few months, that record is definitely getting broken

Portugal are perennial dark horses, usually a run to the quarters or semis of these tournaments are good going. 2016 was were they exceeded expectations and they had some luck on their side: they scraped through the groups, ended up on the easier side of the knockouts, scraped past Croatia and Poland, played a Wales side that had given everything to beat Belgium and hadn't much left in the tank and then played an excellent defensive game against a nervy France in the final.

Portugal would probably have it in them to go as far as the last 8 of the next WC - that'd be considered par. And you can always get a bit of luck too. I'd say he'd fancy a crack at it.

Belgium are a serious team, I don't think it's a huge shame to lose to them.

How much will Croatia struggle without Perisic?

Such a staple, in this team you’d half get the impression he was non perishable let’s find out….

Woo, could be best of the 2nd round so far.
Croatia lead via a really REALLY bad goalie fck up

This Spanish unit is looking very functional now they’ll just keep chipping away; Croatia need to reorganise.

Spain very nearly Spained that build up to the goal.

I would have given him a yellow just for that tat alone.

No way back for the Croats now.

Dunno what instructions the Croation coach gave his team coming into this tourney, but I think the Croatians have woken up to the fact that they can give any team a game.
