Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Pity Spain got that own goal so early, kind of knocks the game out of it. Id say the Swiss are tired after that extra time performance against France

They certainly look tired, very leggy and static but there is a very clear gulf in talent too. Swiss have defended well, pretty organized but their attacking midfield in particular looks underpowered vs this Spain outfit...

Still only one in it, Swiss look like committing more players forward but they need to score next.

Yes of course. I meant 1980. Typo.

That’s shockingly bad defending, an element of bad luck too that the ricochet fell straight into the path of a Swiss player, the only way the Swiss looked like coming back was through a calamity like that they’ve been treading water for most of this game, Spanish look rattled a bit.

How they miss a David Villa up front.. Dug them out of a hole manys a time.

Edit - Nevermind the ref just handed them a shovel.

Should have put his boot through that, hesitating a split second...

Should have scored from the subsequent corner too.

Red card, fûck...by the letter that’s probably the correct call, two footed, studs up, diving in.

    Set for a dramatic finish.

Kenny Cunningham is wrong, that's a two footed studs up tackle.

    Red. Buh bye.

I can't see the Swiss last with 10 men. May get extra time but playing for pennos now.

Always thinks it’s ridiculous when you see lads only getting a yellow for going over the ball and stamping into the shin.

That's not a red card 9 times out of 10, usually that type of tackle is given a red if there's contact with his studs.
    Shocking decision.

You’d listen to Kenny at times you’d wonder did he ever play the game or did he walk into the studio on his way back from the chipper.

Whatever about his career, he's a brutal co-commentator. That said I'm not convinced it was a red card.

It's one of those where we all know a yellow wouldn't have been quite enough.

I do remember him eating chips when they returned to the commentary after half-time on Newstalk before.

Saw a replay on YouTube, it’s not a malicious tackle but it’s completely two footed, he dives in, not in control and showing quite a few studs, could have left the Spanish player badly injured... left the referee little opportunity to give any leniency...

Swiss back four doing well enough but the Spanish attack for all its endeavor looks threadbare on ideas...final ball has been terrible too.

Probably the quietest this thread has been all tournament. Says a lot about this particular game.

What a block. Hard to not like the grit of the swiss

Last five the Swiss have started to look tired, defending much deeper, virtually everybody behind the ball... Spanish looking more likely now, final ball though letting them down again and again.

A pity alright, but it's an enjoyable game. The Spanish look a bit blunt up front. If the Swiss get to penno's I hope they do it. I could pox it with that post.:D

The aim of Spanish football is to score, yes?

The commentary is being drowned out by stadium noise on Audio Track 1, English on RTE 2. Audio Track 3, Language 2 is a lot better on my receiver.

    UTV/ITV is a bit better.

The Swiss keeper is doing a Bonner Stuttgart '88 impression.:D Go on the Swiss!

Commentary volume on ITV perfect on my end.

Sommer going to be the sharpest goal keeper if this goes to penalties. He's been heavily tested here and has been excellent.

Ok, want Spain to go through - more chance of goals in next game - I know, they've both been poor tonight
