Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

There are streams ... just saying ;) Don't know if I'm allowed to post them here.

It's alright, have the iga match but stuck watching on my phone. Better than nothing.

Jabeur let that slip but impressive enough from Swiatek, might charge on now this second set.

Break in game 1 for Jabeur...... now, can she hold on to it this time???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,554 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

Double break for Jabeur - come on, girl!!!

Jabeur should have taken that set there on serve - couldn't close it out.

    really should have.

not a fan of those baggy skirt-jobs that Swiatek has on (which seem to be common with other players also) -> when they are carrying a spare ball and have it scrunched around the spare ball looks like they have a white rubbish bag fashioned into a makeshift skirt around their arse.
That's been the story of Jabeur's career, the lack of a killer instinct when closing out a set or a match. It's why she wasted so many break points against Muguruza.

Both players seem to be sporting something of a retro look.

BBC seeing the light, switching to this match as Jabeur takes a double break.

Exactly it. Really high quality all the way up to the clutch points and then gets all tight. If she could be more clinical, she'd be a serious contender.

Jabeur reminds me of sanchez-vicario but with a much better drop-shot and less grunt

She was the OG grunter really

6-1 Jabeur in the second

    Game on!

Jabeur didn't waste any time levelling.

Grab some refreshment while Swiatek (presumably) heads to the nearest convenience.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 646 ✭✭✭klr87

Rybakina levels against Sabalenka, likewise Khachanov against Korda. Berrettini is the only player dominating this morning.

Jabeur gone favourite on the books, fair enough really. Serve doesn't look much but so effective when she's getting a good percentage in. Swiatek didn't kick on like i thought but she just got blitzed there and no idea what the response will be now.

Jabeur has now won a lot of service points in a row, and as I say that, the streak is broken.

Rybakina had a really bad call against her, but eventually won the game.

Double on a break point is poor

Can Jabeur move on to take it without letting Swiatek back in now?

Jabeur serve is winning this for her. I don't think I've seen her serving this well before, never realised what a potent weapon it could be.

5-1 Jabeur..... serving for the set with new balls.....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 646 ✭✭✭klr87

Jabeur now 5-1 up, serving with new balls. She's 7/7 on break points today.

Ah, delighted with that for a result!!

I'm a big Swiatek fan, but Jabeur was just brilliant today, I just love watching her.

And Iga might be persuaded to pull her skirt out of her knickers now :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 646 ✭✭✭klr87

Wow. That was easy in the end for Jabeur. Holding in that one dodgy service game at 3-1 pretty much sealed it.

was very efficient on the break points today in fairness

that and the serve quality uptick made all the difference.

And saving 12/15 break points on her own serve. Sabalenka (just won) might expose that serve more, but I think Jabeur could tie her up in knots with all that trickery.

No reason to fear anybody now. Sabalenka is the kind of one dimensional opponent jabeur could easily drive to distraction and was fairly clinical in the end today so keeps that up no reason she can't be champion. Would be one of the great stories if she did it.

Who's the Aussie commentator calling her Rubarikina? The least she could do is get her name right (unless there's some odd Swiatek- style pronunciation that I'm not aware of?)

The volume out of Sabarenka is incredible, and not in a good way. And she looked downright rude to a ball boy at the end there.

Hope she meets her comeuppance against Jabeur, but I fear that might not be......

ETA the two posts above have cheered me up a bit though!!

I haven't been a big watcher of tennis in recent years, so not all that familiar with a lot of the players' styles.... really enjoying getting back into it!

Liz (or is it Louise?) Plemming. Wouldn't it be ironic if people called her Fleming by mistake? ;)

Sabalenka is good but she's pure raw aggression and sometimes her radar goes and she's no plan b. Hence her rather modest slam record even given her relative youth. I think it's a guaranteed 3 setter most likely and if pushed I'd back jabeur.

I think Louise Pleming is a former Aussie pro but had never heard of her before last week tbh.

Is there only one BBC red button channel these days?? I seem to remember there being loads more a while back..... that might have been for an Olympics though...

I was enjoying the Korda match, but they've switched to Shapovalov now :(

Sabalenka into the QF's for the first time, now the monkeys off her back she could go all the way.

Korda and Khachanov seemingly unable to hold serve in their final set. 8 breaks, and it's 5-5.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,554 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

Are you watching the Korda match somewhere?

    Another break for 6-6.

I'm reduced to watching the scores on the Wimbledon ticker on Google :(

It's on BBC2 now, but delayed a few minutes, although I think they announced that.

There are various streaming links to the BBC feeds ...

How boring is this men's championship
    Djockovic cantering to this title

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,449 ✭✭✭Rob2D

And Karen takes it. Shame. Korda would've been the much more interesting player to go through. He doesn't seem too phased by anything. Whereas Kachanov will probably get steamrolled by whoever in the next round.

Gauff due on court for singles and doubles at almost the exact same time. Surely some scheduling mishap there!

Looking a bit dark grey and windy in Wimbledon.... I hope the covers pullers are primed and ready ......

It won't come to that, those doubles matches can always be moved around to give players a breather.

Meanwhile, in the boy's singles, there is a young Swede called Leo Borg. He even looks a bit like his dad.

Well done Fucsovic, but I just can't see how he troubles Novak at all.

Maybe a close first set , but unless Novak has physical issues it should be very easy. It won't reflect well on the tour that its possible he may reach the semi final without even breaking sweat.

Yeah, obviously she can't play them both at the same time! Still, i imagine she's going to get a short break after this and then its straight to the doubles match. Not ideal, but she's young i guess so maybe no bother to her.

It's a very lopsided draw though, all the players he'd want to avoid on the other side really. I think he'd beat them all anyway but the chances of an upset are even less likely when he can breeze through to the final. The top 4 seeds in the bottom half of the draw all through to the quarter finals, the top 4 in the top half outside of Djokovic all out already.

    fair point.

Its not helped that Rublev who is a fine player and who won Halle has been patchy all event, even if he won today at his current level he probably would have been battered.

Very nice win for Shapo today though. I think he could be a pain for Novak in a semi final.

Djokovic can only beat what's in front of him, he has got a very kind draw, but, that's the luck of the draw. It is a pity it's so lopsided it would at least make it a bit more interesting, but, tbh I'd say even if he had to play the rest of the top 8 seeds in each round he'd still win it. Also the top 4 seeds in the bottom half are not through to the QF yet (Medvedev looks in control of his match, but, Zverev currently down) so might be an unset there yet.

Sorry, getting slightly ahead of myself with the rounds there. I've probably jinxed Federer there too, I've only seen Sonego play once before against Djokovic in Rome and he looked fairly good that day so wouldn't be shocked to see him win tonight.

on a hell of a run is Sonego.

I have had a bet on him so fully expect a routine win for Roger now.:p

Kerber completes a "routine" 6-4 6-4 win over Gauff, and a CC crowd massively favouring the American.

The BBC could be in a right pickle if the Federer and Raducanu matches clash. They must be praying that Federer swats aside Sonego, and Zverer-FAA goes 5 sets.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,899 ✭✭✭Girly Gal

Zverev in big trouble, 2 sets down and not serving well

They'll have to tell Boris to finish up, they want BBC1 back! Zverev went over on his knee, can't see this one going over 3 sets without a minor miracle.

    I disagree!

I think (like most players these days) she's deep in concentration and might look moody/bad-tempered/spoilt for the duration of a match - but her smile lights up straight after, and I've only ever heard her being generous and a polite girl outside of play (not very much, admittedly, so if she's thrown strops or been mean, maybe I just haven't heard about it).
