has anyone heard about the warehouse deals? Haven't seen anyone on hotukdeals yet

That's a mad way of calculating a tax.

(I'm not saying you're wrong btw)

If I was chatting with a seller, and bought a large item worth 200 quid. However, they "value" the product at 20 quid, and I sent them an extra 180 quid as a thank you for being so sound, I'd pay VAT on 20 quid? Which is "the value" of the item?

Value is 200 quid plus you're committing tax fraud.

Its on every year for Prime Days and Black Friday so should be this year also. Should know for definite at 23:00 once EU sale starts

Prime Day starts at 23:00 tonight on the EU sites - some items may be cheaper from them than UK as no import tax.

Amazon Germany, Spain, Italy and France.

But you don't get Prime benefits on that website as an Irish customer.

I just think Primeday is a non event for Irish customers now until website and/or distribution centre is up and running.

You do, just not free postage.

You still get Prime exclusive offers and prices, some of which are region specific so definitely worth keeping tabs on things.

But the free postage is the main benefit of Prime.

Yes you do get all the discounts from all EU sites for Prime day if you are a Prime member, you can sign up to free trial and get deals for free. You just dont get free prime delivery.

I dont think you understand the concept, the whole Prime Day is about discounts for prime users. Nothing special to do with delivery etc.

It's only really a noticeable benefit on small purchases. If you're saving €100+ on a deal from one of the EU sites, the €6/7 for shipping isn't a big deal.

Amazon have an issue with the vat conversion for Irish customers. You should only pay 2.5% over the UK£ price for the vat difference if you are a Prime customer and the item is “free delivery”. They have acknowledged this to me and are working to fix it. Do not pay over the odds, contact their customer support and pay the correct price. Take off UK 20% vat and add on Irish vat 23% to get the right £price
If the UK price is £50.00 don’t pay more than £51.25 with Prime.

Of course you do. It's the same as any other year. Irish VAT is 3 percent higher than the UK vat rate. That's the only difference compared to pre Brexit. Well 3 percent & stronger sterling I suppose

You pay a duty deposit. This isn’t the final price. They refund any difference that they collect from what they pay revenue. It takes over a month before refunds start coming but they do refund the money without being asked

6 or so Warehouse items spread across 2 accounts.. not a single one on offer! :(

Ended up buying them anyways with the 2 X £10 vouchers from that Small Business lark.

Back to bed, and hopefully better luck tomorrow.

I got it in acceptable condition. Said there was a scratch on the lid and the manual was missing. That's fine with me! If there's anything else, I'll return it.

Got a nice used item tho as expected the 30% came off the non VAT price with a full price VAT/duty addon. I wonder when it's processed, will they refund the excess? Also got the tenner credit used without any intervention.,

The warehouse selection was very very poor.

And when I try to buy any other item it won't give me the deal price.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,820 ✭✭✭faolteam

Yes i notice it says 70% claimed then you hit it and says currently unavailable

    G502 Lightspeed

UK price on Prime day supposed to be GBP 60.99

Deliver to Irish Address is GBP 76.97 Pound

    Order Summary
    Items: GBP 69.49
    Postage & Packing: GBP 0.00
    Import Fees Deposit: GBP 15.98
    Total: GBP 85.47
    Promotion Applied: -GBP 8.50

    Order Total: GBP 76.97

    ???

I don't understand, I think I have been double taxed on this, can someone please explain on this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 787 ✭✭✭Akula

I think they have a bug where the deal price is not being made available to irish customers. Complain to their customer service and ask to speak to a supervisor if necessary. Eventually they will realise.

  • Registered Users Posts: 119 ✭✭chrismcc409

That is a huge loss in the discount, the bigger the discount the bigger the lack of discount is for the Irish customer. If you don't have family or friends in the UK it makes prime days poor Offerings even poorer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,544 ✭✭✭Hogzy

Anyone else being charged import fees on virtually everything? I have tried different items under 10GBP and each time I get through im constantly charged import fees. Despite my cart total not coming over 10GBP. Makes no sense!!!

Just to. Clarify the higher price for ireland is because in the UK tthe discount applies to the full price. In Ireland it only applies to the amount that is not vat. So you are getting roughly 75 percent of the discount they offer off the full price.

Reminds me of the days I used to send orderse via post to my cousins and aunts. Living in the UK!!

Their glitch has made prime day useless for Irish customers.

The prices are coming in much more expensive than the actual non sale price.

Absolute waste of time unless they fix it.

Major f**k up on their part, or maybe it's deliberate, who knows?

Their customer service is useless when it comes to complex situations like this. They're only good for returns, refunds, issues with promos, replacements etc. Anything complicated like this and you might as well be talking to them in Russian as they can't understand the problem or just don't know what to do, so the easiest option for them is to just blame the customer and say the issue is at your end

It's crazy that a company that is worth over $1 trillion dollars still chooses to get cheap customer service outsourced to India or the likes.
It's not as if they can't afford local teams in western based countries. It's a big downfall of theirs when it comes to customer service.

I had an issue months ago with this, a promo where I was charged import fees on the full non promo price and got nowhere, essentially paid UK VAT And Irish VAT. Their customer service people arent equipped to deal with this sort of thing.:mad:

I 100% guarantee Prime Day will be totally useless to us in Ireland. Absolute disgrace given the UK amazon is the only one where we can get any decent prime benefits. If we got free delivery from Amazon.de id glady shop there but we dont.

Im on to a fella here on chat and he said he has escalated it to the relevant technical teams, they probably wont see it until tomorrow at the earliest. Guarantee nothing will be done.

    F*ck Brexit and F*ck Amazon!

Just had a 35 mins call with Amazon customer service, the agent on the phone asked me for the screenshot of the order summary, waited for good few minutes as he said he had to check with his supervisor - in the end he told me that he will be escalating the issue with Prime department and hopefully they can resolve this issue as he believe that this affected multiple countries too.

Because its Prime day I suspected most items wont last in stock very long and we wont know how long until the "Prime department" recognised the issue. So he advised me to take screenshot of the order summary before placing the order so that refund for the extra charges can be refunded after Prime day.

Everyone please get on the call with the customer service, get them to understand how serious this issue is as it effectively affecting an entire country.

  • Registered Users Posts: 119 ✭✭chrismcc409

Usually you get a better response to constantly badgering then. They must be up the walls tonight in fairness. Jeff too busy in space to bother with the likes of us

FYI a similar thing happened me a while ago (see this thread). Never received my refund. That was a January sale lightening deal on a shirt that was subsequently dispatched from Germany and never even saw the UK, Paid the deal price, import duty was calculated on the non deal price and I never noticed until it was too late. Never received a refund or a follow up from Amazon.

Who knows, maybe this Prime day is a lot more large scale and affecting way more customers and hopefully get them to recognise the problem.

They have refunded me the difference. I'm not sure it was worth stayomg up the extra hour and there were a few more things I wanted but it feel like a victory. Hopefully they will resolve it as they have been on the ball re brexit compared to any other retailer in fairness

  • Registered Users Posts: 119 ✭✭chrismcc409

They told me they would add an annotation to. Keep this from happening again so I can probably order away and use the screen shot of that afyer the fact to get refunded but seems like an awful lot of effort for. Something that should be easy. If you are paying the prime sub you want easy online shopping!

I am looking to buy :
    https://www.amazon.fr/dp/B08HHDJDV1

OnePlus 8T from amazon.fr. Will this be covered in 2 yrs warranty in Ireland? The product page has options of different countries which confused me about country-specific warranty or EU-wide.

I bought the 7 pro from Amazon Italy and had it repaired under warranty recently (phone was just under 2 years old). They have one warranty repair centre for all of Europe, the phone had to be sent to Poland to be fixed

Had bought Alexa buds for 50 down from 119 but hit cancel a while ago and bought Galaxy buds plus for 59 down from 159. Double the battery life too I think
