So apparently the Russians did, as far as they think, fire a warning shot.

Problem is they were something of a mile plus astern of the British ship, and using an AK-630 (Rotary 30mm gun). The British may not have noticed, or thought it was part of the exercises. Link at about 5:20 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_NS5elmFGYY

Would you consider that an actual warning shot ,the traditional naval warning is a shot across the bow ,
Not firing a ciws after the ship is out of sight , still no evidence of aircraft dropping bombs in the ships path ???

Tell that to the people of Syria who are not been ruled by Islamic State now thanks to Moscow.

You should talk to some Syrians, people on the ground in the country instead of gobbling up western propaganda.

Well done to the Brits for standing their ground. Not Russian waters and should be treated as such.

the Russians were losing before America got involved in any meaningful way , but it helped American weapons were used to shoot down close to some 300 aircraft (what could manage such losses), I remember actually reading about how Mujahedeen fighters were buying weapons off russian soldiers on guard duty at bases because they were conscripts who didn't want to fight for the party,
I think the religious ideology and Pakistan and other foreign involvement still would have had a similar outcome over just over a longer period ,
Russia operated a scorched earth policy more interested in hammering towns and villages ,that **** doesn't go down too well ,

Yes, and eventually the Russians would have left anyway, but it would have taken a lot longer to get them out without the weapons supplied by the US. They made good use of the Hind ( Mi24 ) attack helicopter, which was armour plated, and carried an impressive amount of firepower. Until they got the US supplied hand held weapons that were capable of bringing down the Hind, the Mujhideen were basically powerless against it. Russian conscripts were treated so badly by their own officers, that the Mujahideen as you said, often got weapons and ammunition from them. There's a good movie called "The Beast", about a russian tank which gets lost, and what happens to it. Well worth watching. Even to this day, Afghanistan is littered with the graveyards of Russian military hardware, tanks, helicopters, APC's etc. And of course, mines from that time.

It was war games the sub was testing new weapon, they dont employ same safety as NATO and US, they can hide cover up less media intrusion.
Was an embarrisment they accepted help eventually from Norway they wouldnt allow the US.
Sad the Russian people believe the **** they are fed to keep them down they probably think the british warship was sunk RTL

Labaik....the Russians killed the so called enemys of Assad,,,,, be they isis, Free Syrian Army, Kurds, Al-Queda...and many innocent Syrians. There were many more involved in getting rid of isis, in the early days, especially the Kurds. It was not the sole priority of the Russians, except when they menaced Assad's army, and at one stage even Damascus itself that they stepped in. As far as the Russians were cocerned, isis could pretty much do what they liked, and they liked killing, so the Russians left them at it. They only got serious after isis planted a bomb on a Russian jet carrying Russian holiday makers from the Egyptian resort of Sharm- El -Sheik, Then they took the fight to isis....bombing the convoys of trucks carrying the oil that isis were selling to Turkey...which incidently triggered the shooting down of a Russian fighter jet. No, the Russians were not the main reason Syria is not being ruled by isis now, they helped sure, but when it suited them. Getting rid of isis was not their main priority, if it had been, isis would have been defeated much earlier.

The Russians turned the tide in that war within months, hundreds of bombing runs done in days, its completely laughable that posters here won't acknowledge the truth of that....the western powers were happy to let it play on....until Russia announced it was entering Syria to fight ISIS who's with us?!? Lol I can only imagine the poe faces in the white house....a chess move by the Russians

The Hind is a amazing beast ,for an helicopter especially at that time , completely opposite to what America went with from the cobra to the Apache ,big ,fast , very well armoured and plenty to firepower ,
Has a turning circle of a battleship thought ,but when you have 6 of these coming at you in formation it didn't matter you were dead ,
They left behind thousands of tons of small arms , artillery and various explosives and men ,they left troop's to die in remote outposts because they couldn't risk the losses trying to evacuate them.
Zero respect for their own troops .

Cant remember the name of a podcast a few years ago where the had a US officer was talking about losing a supply drop for an operation ,and the local Mujahedeen commander drove down to the nearest russian base and bought case's of aks and RPGs and used them to attack a another russian base ,
    Complete bizarre situation

Given previous US / UK and " Allies" intervention in the middle east, and how they turned out, is it any surprise that the US / UK/ Allies were not anxious to get involved in another middle east conflict? Sure they moved when the Russians entered the fray. Russians arrived in Syria in 2015 ( first operations were carried out in Sept) It was in March 2019 when isis were finally defeated in the last battle in Baghuz by the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Kurdish YPG, supported by the US. So it took 4 years to eliminate isis from Syria. I mentioned in my earlier post that the Russians were invited to intervene by Assad, as the SDA, and FSA were on the point of taking Damascus. They were actually that close they were popping up out of the manholes on the outskirts of the city. This was not something that the US would have minded, as they did not support Assad. So sure, the Russians carried out massive air raids on the anti-Assad positions around Damascus, and later on, further afield. But isis was not their immediate priority, protection of the regime was, and while they played a part in the defeat of isis, they were not solely responsible for the defeat. But they did change the course of the war, had they not intervened, the Regime would have collapsed.

Just looking at HMS Defenders armaments and it seems like she could do more than look after herself, if she needed to. Bristling with all sorts of kit. Problem is if the Ruskies actually fired at her and she replied, not only would the attacker be destroyed but it would also start a war.

It wasn't to far from Sevastopol were the Russians have a base....it would have been sitting on the sea bed within minutes, foolish provocation by the Brits

Mobilising a naval response isn't the sort of thing that happens within minutes or hours.

They have these things called missiles....quite fast ones too
The Brits have been caught with their pants down on this one,lie after lie and what could have potentially triggered a war

On the seabed in minutes you say ... but only after taking out several Migs and punching a massive hole in their Naval base. That Type 45 Destroyer HMS Defender is no toy!

The Russians would be very foolish to mes with such a powerful ship.

The Russians don't give a fiddlers about the UK,they've warned them in the past it would be all over in 20 mins for them

This black sea sail by of UK navy is reply to earlier training exercise by Russian Navy.

They have done the same in Pacific, so expect more tit for tat "training exercises" near each other's territorial waters.

poking a beehive, way to success for sure.

I feel a bit sorry for the people on the ship. They are clearly unsure what reaction they'll get (the lieutenant at 2:16 of the BBC video looks totally wtf are we doing here) but they just got to follow the orders.

I said it earlier in the thread, they looked pure anxious, like why the fcuk did they send us here for....a high stakes game that wouldn't have ended well for them
Then more bull**** about a gunnery exercise....
