Presume the Brits knew what would happen, the BBC were so well positioned.

The Russians don't give a fiddlers about the UK,they've warned them in the past it would be all over in 20 mins for them

And 60 minutes later Russia would be a smoking hole itself.

Next time Russian ships pass through the English Channel should they be fired upon?

This black sea sail by of UK navy is reply to earlier training exercise by Russian Navy.

They have done the same in Pacific, so expect more tit for tat "training exercises" near each other's territorial waters.

The British fleet including a new aircraft carrier will be doing a sail by in the very near future, I wonder will the Russians be as quick to react when faced with that amount of firepower.

All over for the Ruskies naval base in 20 mins probably, once the Defender got going. That ship packs one powerful multi faceted punch, as the Ruskies would soon discover if they messed with her.

    Aye....that mocked that too..

"Major-General Igor Konashenkov, chief spokesman for the Russian Defence Ministry, said: "The British aircraft carrier is nothing more than just a huge easy naval target."

They have these things called missiles....quite fast ones too
The Brits have been caught with their pants down on this one,lie after lie and what could have potentially triggered a war

The Brits have a class of ship that has been specifically designed for anti aircraft and anti missile warfare, they are all pretty new and are currently as advanced as any other navy in the world. their Sampson radar can track and target
hundreds of potential threats up to 400 miles away and anything that gets past the Aster missile system will come up against the Phalanx CIWS.

They are known as the Type 45 Destroyer, or D Class because they all start with a D.

The fifth ship of this class was named Defender.

Yep, all talk, the same could be said for any carrier group. To take out the carrier group quickly they would need to use a nuke and that's never gonna happen.

any aircraft carrier is, that is why they don't sail alone.

The Russian aircraft carrier being slightly different in that it doesn't sail alone not just for defence purposes, but also because the thing keeps breaking down and needs another one of Russia's geriatric fleet to give her a tow.

No British aircraft carrier is going anywhere near Crimea, neither is any US ones or anything larger than a cruiser.

In fact no NATO aircraft carrier may enter the Black sea at all. even just to visit another NATO member located on the Black Sea. Most aircraft carriers are not allowed through the Bosporus Straits.

All carriers regardless are nation aren't meant to be allowed, the Russians can as theirs technically aren't carriers as they've them armed with more than just defensive weapons so they're classed as Aircraft cruisers.

Even for subs, a large part of the US's fleet can't enter it either. The same for most of the amphibious assault ships.

treaty actually contains no explicit prohibition on aircraft carriers

I suspect US submarines have no desire to enter the Black Sea - I 'd imagine US submarines rarely even enter the Mediterranean Sea.

It's blocks anything over 15k tons expect for black sea states who can have capitals ships of any size except that section explicitly excludes aircraft carriers.

Misspoke there, even the smaller ones aren't allowed regardless of size.

    What lies were there?

They knew exactly what they were doing and it was a provocative act, but no more so than Russian bears flying through British and Irish controlled airspace.

Plenty of them, the innocent passage, the gunnery exercise and a bcc reporter who just so happened to be onboard...not a good look on the world stage

The British did not undertake this action with explicit approval from NATO allies and the US. I say Boden is marking Putin's cards. Obama made a huge mistake in not standing up to Putin over the annexation of Crimea. Since then he has carried out other actions and allowed cyber criminality and terrorism to be carried out from Russia

While Biden looks slow witted he a wily old fox. He know it either stand up to Putin at the start of his presidency or never. This has all the hallmarks of Teddy Roosevelt walk softly but carry a big stick.

You seem to be approaching this from a view that the world in general loves and admires Russia; in general, it doesn't - quite the opposite. The UK flipping the bird to Russia is the good look on the world stage.

Considering the misery the UK has caused in the world I doubt it...if the Russians had sent the defender to the sea floor they would have been calling for emergency UN meetings, the BBC and British tabloids would have filled our screens with pictures of the deceased and their children.

"Russian Defence Ministry spokesman Maj Gen Igor Konashenkov derided the British denials that the Russian military fired warning shots at HMS Defender and urged Britain and its allies not to “tempt fate”.

He added that the ship is “just a juicy target for the Black Sea Fleet’s missile systems”

I think you are very nice if you think this is a solo run by Johnson. This was well discussed at the Mayor and G7 meetings.

If Russia sinks the Defender the US, France, Turkey and Israel will all react. Every Russian military and Navy site involved in the attack on the Defender would be destroyed. Putin would be humiliated he know, the Russian generals know .

There is complete silence by EU, NATO and US officials. This is a planned operation and is not a UK solo run.

Putin's card is being marked. Biden looked him in the eye and is showing him US policy will be different under him

The summit between Biden and Putin was truncated , I imagine Biden made his point and pushed off , I am no fan of Biden but the US has to face Putin down . How to do it without escalation is problematic or we could get back to cold war MAD politics pretty quickly.
