Fair play to Padraig Walsh for the service he's given the county and the very best of luck to him in the future

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,733 ✭✭✭Grats

I doubt many, if any, of the players read this thread but they should know that Kilkenny supporters appreciate their commitment and contribution over the last year under D Lyng. Whether they were dropped or left the panel, fair play to them for trying in the interest of Kilkenny hurling.

Stupid remark, anyone representing the county should be treated with a small bit of respect for the huge effort alone.

5 all stars WOW I expected about 3

best of luck to Padraig Walsh another great servant but the legs are gone and he made the right decision.

Padraig as we all know…. Along with Shane Walsh, Evan Cody, Alan Murphy, Darragh O Neill, Des Dunne

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,334 ✭✭✭robwen

Are these the last remaining All Ireland winners?

Eoin Murphy, TJ Reid, Conor Fogarty, Walter Walsh and Cillian Buckley

Was Richie Reid in the panel in 14 or 15 as a goalie?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,334 ✭✭✭robwen

Good spot I think Herity retired after the 14 win so Richie was probably sub goalie in 15??

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,318 ✭✭✭Village87

Are Buckley and Fogarty seriously staying on ? We need to move on, these lads were not good enough in there prime to win All Irelands. Not good enough now.

  • Registered Users Posts: 640 ✭✭✭Fred Daly

What an ignorant statement to make.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,318 ✭✭✭Village87

Cody left Jackie, Rice etc. go when there time was up. Come on lads, this is a hard nosed business where results matter, not a retirement home or for lads using it for commercial purposes. Kilkenny need to get younger lads in and if it takes 3/4 years to be contenders again great. kilkenny have 4/5 of the best players in the country, after that we are very poor imo. We need to get new blood in and invest in them ASAP. Apologies if my opinion hurts but that is sport

What was it Joni Mitchell sang? Oh yeah....

"Don`t it always seem to go, that you don`t know what you`ve got till its gone..."

Its not what you say its how its said.

Without fogartys block we may not have been in the all ireland or buckleys goal v galway.up to management to decide whether they can contribute or not.

It's an AMATEUR sport Village and anonymous keyboard warriors constantly waiting for an opportunity to slate players that commit to it is pathetic to say the least.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,733 ✭✭✭Grats

Thoroughly agree. The players have to hold down a job as well as keeping us entertained. It's an amateur sport, not a business. The coaches etc are being paid but not the players.

    Keep it in perspective.

Fogarty's block was one of the highlights of the hurling year for me.

And Buckley’s goal one of mine!

Congrats to Padraig on a great career and some brilliant memories. Unfortunately like Tommy the legs just went on him for this level. I'll always remember him dashing up the field and whipping the ball over the bar after a long and often mazie run and it always brought a massive cheer from the Kilkenny crowd. I think being so versatile ultimately hurt his career as he was moved to wherever Kilkenny's need was greatest and that ultimately hurt him as more specialised players took the position and he was kind of left floundering the last few years with no clear role.

I'd also like to that the 5 other lads for all their dedication to the cause and all the hard nights of training and travel they had to put in. No one is holding a gun to their head but I admire their self discipline and drive to keep going in night after night and week after week and often not even get a chance or much of one anyway.

Agree re players mentioned. Fogarty's block and Buckley's goal got us into an All Ireland final. Both were good enough to win All Irelands in their prime and at Minor and Senior level to boot. They owe Kilkenny hurling nothing and if they want to go/stay its between themselves and management. Slating lads isn't going to win an All Ireland.

Can people list 10 players worthy of trials for the senior team? Who's going to be the next breakout star on the Kilkenny team? Is there anyone that's not come through the minor/u20 setup that's always done it for their club. There's been very poor representation from the Kilkenny U20 All Ireland winning team, thought we might get a few players from that. This sitting around for 2/3 years won't cut it anymore, lads get fed up. That's when you want these lads on the pitch early to mid 20s.

Personally I've liked the look of Eoin/Owen Wall and for OLG this year, Glennon from Tullogher has it.

Down South do John Lockes, Piltown, Carrickshock, Mullinavat, Dunnamaggin, Mooncoin etc..have anyone else worth looking at?

Padraig was a great player and all the best to him, he will be a massive loss. One of the true greats, pity he didn't have better players around him the last 8/9 years, he would have picked up a few more All Irelands

  • Registered Users Posts: 640 ✭✭✭Mad about baa baas

Padraig Walsh had a fantastic career and will be a big loss..if a few more step away they will leave a big hole to fill As previous posters said.it was some.of the older lads that really stepped up last year and got us to the final.. anyone that pulls on a county Jersey puts in a huge effort and sacrifices a lot and should be commended for that. Time catches up on everyone but that's no reason to come.on here insulting them..

  • Registered Users Posts: 288 ✭✭jimmythesulk

No but some great hurlers in slieverue and kilmacow.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,029 ✭✭✭Billy Ocean

2 of them were excellent 2014-16 so this comment aswel as being highly ignorant just makes you look silly.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,318 ✭✭✭Village87

They had great players around them from 14-16 before they retired, if my memory serves me correctly Austin Gleeson received a hurler of the year award mainly based on 2 performances on Conor Fogarty in 16. Since then after the greats retired and these 2 in particular were in there prime Kilkenny have not won an All Ireland and Buckley and Fogarty have been average at best imo. Kilkenny have been relying on the Ballyhale contingent and players like Lawlor and Padraig Walsh since who have been outstanding.

There's no way Lyng is keeping on Fogarty , Buckley and Walter Walsh. My God I thought those 3 would retire before Padraig Walsh. None of them would get within an asses roar of the Munster Teams and I include Waterford in that. Wally was atrocious in the All Ireland final as was Fogarty. Buckley has been finished for years. No I think Lyng is just giving them the time they deserve in getting their heads around their exit.

This is a rebuilding time for Kilkenny. In my opinion the nettle must be grasped. Hand on heart could anyone on here say that Kilkenny have a serious chance at winning the All Ireland this year? There's only one answer to that , an emphatic 'No'. Then get rebuilding and get the young lads in. The worst thing that could happen Kilkenny this year is they win Leinster. They get to an All Ireland semi and get beat or heaven forbid they get to an All Ireland final and come up against the likes of Limerick again. They'll be wiped out ...that would be 3 final losses to Limerick in a row!! What a disaster that would be.
