Teams entered at U8s/U10 level in camogie...are there boys teams? Haven't heard

Dublin had a much changed team from the earlier round with the fringe u20 players released to play this evening. The 3 goals really kept dublin in the game but they played some nice hurling at times. Kk got a very fortuitous goal near the end to get the win. The Dublin goalie who was excellent let a long speculative ball over the line. Barcoe and lacey the two standout players and could be getting a phone call to link up with the u20s.

This is a fantastic competition and can only help chaps make the next step. It was a great innovative from kk who aren't always the quickest when it comes to brainstorming.it would be great to see more counties get involved. The only downside is the u20 extended panel members aren't in contention so there getting no game time and also aren't allowed play with their Club because they're involved with the county team. This is a area that needs to be looked at.

Busy few days for kk supporters with the minor Sunday. Hopefully supporters can get behind this team. Waterford and cork are strong in Munster and kk and galway strong in leinster. A great weekend of hurling coming up. Kk have a poor record against galway in the round robin. Full panel to pick from except Tom phelan. Training had gone well.lyng wont go too mad. Its a toss up between Tommy and Shane Murphy corner back. He will probably go back to Richie Reid at 6. Blanchfield and deegan on the wings. I heard Carey might be midfield with jordon molloy. Donnelly to play as a traditional center foward and Kenny picked on the wing but given a roving roll and mossy on the other wing. Billy ryan,tj and a Harry shine or Stephen donnelly in the corner. I don't know how reliable this is but it would be no harm to start a newcomer in the fowards. Shine and donnelly are the best two prospects and most likely to make it imo but both have had trouble with injury. Fowards have being the problem the last few years and lung needs to try find some who can start or make a impact. Mullen hasn't played since January it's unlikely he will go straight into the starting 15 but worryingly he has missed alot of hurling with injury. I think lyng needs to look at moving cody out when it isn't happening for him inside. It's too easy bottle him up inside and it has happened a good bit over the last few years. It will be intresting to see what improvements have being made on puckouts. Scruff was driving a good few into the front row of the stands. Mikey butler will look foward to meeting mcgoughlin again. Will mossy be able continue his brilliant league form? Cathal mannion is gakways key player and if he is left free he can easily throw over 5 or 6 points. Molloy could be tasked with tracking him.

Looks an exceptional panel. As good a minor panel as we have had the last 20 years. Some players who would not have been on it last year like Nevin, Hanrahan, Bolger are absolutely excellent. Larry Phelan is a very good prospect fullback along with many others.

    Ruairi Power, Richies son?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 97 ✭✭Sir Chaz

Yep. Very skilful young fella. Similar to his father.

Absolutely and one for the future

He doesn't need that comparison on his shoulders. His father was one of the greatest talents ever to put on a Kilkenny jersey. If it wasn't for a few small things like injures etc. he could have been the greatest ever imo, he put in some of the best ever club performances i have come across in the Kilkenny senior hurling championship. He roasted Jackie and Donncha Cody on numerous occasions

Very enjoyable match. I think Kilkenny did really well to come out with the win. Dublin a much more developed team physically and well able to hurl. Young lacey is one of the best young forwards I have seen in black and amber for a good while . Skill, pace and a forwards brain, was a huge loss in last years minor final , one to watch. Barcoe for a huge man doesn't lack pace and with experience will be a good one, thought Sean Deely very good also. Well done to Matt Ruth and the backroom team.

Nothing whatsoever being put on his shoulders, just answered a question that he's Richie's son, and he's also a skilful young hurler who's on the minor panel. I'd imagine he'll have a job making his way into the minor team itself though given the strength of the attacking talent that appears to be there, but having said that, for all the criticism that's been aimed at management there, they certainly haven't been shy about throwing younger talent in early.

Richie was one of the greats and as you said, and he'd be up there with TJ/Henry but for injury. Unbelievable talent.

Team is due to be named today or tomorrow?

Richie hogan on news talk just now, god he’s hard to listen to.

Richie definitely isn't the best pundit on the radio. Henry is back on rte this weekend. Team won't be released till tomorrow.

Are the Kilkenny minor footballers playing other counties B teams? They've played Carlow, Wexford and Wicklow in the last few weeks, drew one and lost the other two by small margins but not sure what teams they're playing

    I was wondering...

    Thanks

Its a long term initiative to get a football team back in the National league and any potential 3rd tier Senior football competition that might be introduced. To enter the minor championship proper could lead to some nasty hammerings that could derail the project so this South Leinster shield was introduced to give competitive games at an appropriate level for the team and they're in the 3rd tier Minor All-Ireland competition in a few weeks time against Waterford.

A Rolls Royce of a hurler was Ritchie, I have never seen a hurler with skill like him.

He supposedly scored a goal in a KK training match one night that lads still talk about, defied logic.

His young son Ruairi seems to have it abundance too.

I was at a Kilkenny training session, probably in 2008 or 2009, where Richie scored a wonder goal. Spectators turned to one another saying "What just happened?" and "How did he do that?" and "Was that for real?" I was priviliged to witness it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,050 ✭✭✭conor05

Yes, that seemed to be the goal an ex player refereed to alright.

B teams yes but peppered with first team players. For example last night Wicklow played their first team captain and two vice captains (that's the CB, midfielder and CF from the first team) for most of the game and it was pretty obvious as they dominated. They brought on a few more strong first team players in the second half. So it's a credit to our boys that each game was competitive. The tier three All Ireland competition will be a good challenge for them.

    No TJ even on bench

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45 WibblyWobblyWonderman

I didn’t even notice that when I first looked. I automatically assumed he’d be on the bench. Haven’t heard of any reason for him not to be listed
