Myself and my wife are thinking of buying a mobile home in a seaside village. We are based in Limerick and first preference was Lahinch but prices and the waiting lists are crazy.
Wer now looking at Ballyheigue in Kerry as it's not too far and has the added bonus of a golf course for me. Does anybody have any information on Ballyheigue as we know nothing about it?

Ballyheigue is a lovely spot very quiet and family orientated! No casinos etc a few lovely pubs Flahives is a great spot!
Lovely long beach and never over crowded iv been going for 30+ years!
It's on the quiet side a lot slower than ballyb or kilkee for example! It's a Blue flag strand and always lovely and clean!
Only question I would ask is what Caravan park you are looking at Whites is right beside the sand dunnes so a stones throw from the beach!
Caseys is in the village and very well run I'd try and avoid Creans on the tralee road I've heard some stories about the owners attitude!

    Thanks for that Eoin

We went for a look today and its a lovely village our only issue is its a fair drive from Limerick but we will have to get over that.

Going to contact Caseys and wel see what happens from there. Thanks again.

Would have taken that as a bonus :)

Really interested in how you get on, if you don't mind providing an update.

What road did you take did take the Tralee road or the coast road?
I find the coast road a good bit quicker but it has some " rural" sections once you pass Tarbert!

OP what ages are your Children? I've heard a few times over the years that people have trouble with teens rebelling against the idea of spending more than 20 mins in a mobile home if the location is too remote/hasn't enough going on for their age group etc.

To their age group there's a massive difference between a little town by the sea along the lines of Lahinch and Kilkee and the more remote options.

Of course lots of parents might be seeking the opposite and love the quiet and tranquility.......

Anyway - Might be something to consider.

Asking on my own behalf - Roughly how much (ballpark) does it cost to get set up a mobile home within reach of Limerick? And then how much (again roughly) would you expect to pay on ongoing annual costs?

How do people even go about researching it - Is it a case of contacting all of the mobile home parks individually and checking in each case the best deal on offer and how long the waiting list is?

Site fees can be 1500-2500 annually id say closed to 2k on average!
Usually when buying a Mobile on site there is often "hello" money to consider for the site owner a horrible and probably illegal practice that is something to consider when costing ive heard its 500 euro ish!
Mobiles can vary widely in value just get as modern as you can afford with double glazing if possible!

If Lahinch was your first preference why not check out Liscannor. Can't really tell you much about the place as we moved over to Kilkee 20 years ago.

I keep on hearing all these stories about Mobile Home Park Owners and their dodgy schemes!

A common one seems to be that every X amount of years they tell people their mobile home is too old and outdated and shabby looking - So you either buy a new one but this is only possible if you buy from their Cousin/Brother/Uncle at some inflated rate or else they need to move it to the back of the park etc.

Seemingly they'll be understanding if you want to buy elsewhere but there's another charge that kicks in if so....Meaning that you pretty much have to enter into their scheme.

There must be some truth in all these tales because you do hear them a lot? I wonder if people ever push back - Probably can't as they've no leverage to do so..... Now if everyone got together it would be a different story of course....

Went as a kid from mid 80's to mid 90s and loved it.
Safe and very family oriented. Gets a little busy last week of July but where doesnt.
    Have great memories.

We stayed at Caseys caravan park and if you have the right location the views across the bay are amazing.
Beach is class too and not spoilt.
Tralee only 12 miles away on wet days.

Liscannor seems to be the same as Lahinch when it comes to prices.

Heres our set up in Kilkee.

Waiting list every year to get a site. List closed this year as its as long as their arm.

You either have to have a family member on site, be recommended by two people who are on site or have a shed load of money.

You have to buy a new mobile home. Min cost €40,000 from the site owners.

You have to replace your mobile every 15 - 17 years.

Any add ons have to be gotten from owners. Eg decking which seems to be a must have.

Rental €2450 per year. Open st Patrick's day to October weekend.

Basically thems the rules, like it or lump it

For all that in fairness you get an immaculately maintained park and bins collected.

Very safe and great freedom for kids

There is never any hassle as generally it is inter generational. I.e we played with people there as kids who are now there with their kids. Anyone new has been vouched for.

Sounds very pretentious and it can be, you'd swear some new people on site think they're in the Hampton, but for us the pros out weigh the cons
