I don’t get how touchy people are about NZ either. People seem to get really animated and upset about it. Just don’t understand that sentiment when we had weeks and weeks of lockdown

We couldn’t have done it, but their approach of keeping it out until everyone was vaccinated was a no brainer. A normal life until the vaccine comes. It’s just that not many countries could have done it. No other decent sized country has the natural barriers to entry that NZ does.

It was a huge gamble. If vaccines hadn’t come along then god knows what the end game was. But they did

We can’t compare what’s happening in Canada New Zealand and Australia with Ireland

I have worked in Canada, New Zealand and oz, and I found all 3 have two main things in common, a high level of mental health issues and an arrogance that would make the English blush. i am not surprised by all threes psychotic and delusional response the last 2 years.

It's nice to feel that no more restrictions are coming

Tbh the summer and Autumn of 2020 were a bit of a mess and you could also not relax knowing restrictions were coming back. Xmas 2020/first 6 months of 2021 were a farce

BJ was saying today that restrictions will be brought back very quickly if needed

I presume this was just appeasing the detractors and will likely never happen

I guess you imagine there is some learning point here there really isn't apart from your complete inability to teach in any way.

My bad! You said: "Doctor John is a dead, very cool musician, this is a nurse with a PhD." which strongly suggested that you had some sort of objection to the use of the earned title "doctor" in reference to someone who has in fact earned the title "doctor". I assumed ingenuousness. Should've known better.

That said why on earth would anyone go a YouTube channel to understand what Gates said when you can watch it on your own and make up your own mind. There's nothing in the interview that needs explaining, even to a small child.

Well why would anyone watch a current affairs show instead of just watching political speeches and looking at covid data? Why would anyone watch a nature documentary instead of watching uncut raw footage of nature? Why do people watch Love Island when they could go to any 18-30s holiday destination and see the same antics in real time?

Presenters exist because people like to have information presented to them and structured/contextualised by another human. You don't have to enjoy a given presenter yourself in order to understand that.

Whatever you think of John Campbell, he's brought a lot of information to a lot of people over the last couple of years. His insistence that people take vitamin D has probably saved a few lives, all things considered. He's navigated things like ivermectin pretty calmly, he's given a voice to people with severe vaccine injury at a time when propagandised families were disowning their own kin who dared to say anything negative about big pharma products, he's highlighted some Covid effects—like an increased risk of stillbirth in pregnant women—that weren't covered much by corporate media, he's been ahead of the telly in terms of detailing new and changing symptoms with each new variant that's come along, and he's regularly given updates on the situation in other countries and had guests from those countries on his channel to chat about the situation there.

He also takes comments and criticism from people who comment or email him and addresses them on his channel, as well as admitting the occasions when he's wrong and holding his hands up with a mea culpa. And it all stems from his first videos about the pandemic, before it was declared one and before SARS-CoV-2 even had a name, when the WHO was telling people all was well and the corporate media had talking heads on to tell people it was just a flu and Donald Trump's travel ban was an overreaction and he was racist against Chinese people. At that time, John Campbell was giving people advice on hand washing, staying home if vulnerable, wearing good quality masks and wraparound goggles, avoiding close contact in confined spaces, etc. He earned people's trust over time by giving them relevant information, by giving them early information, and by holding himself to account for mistakes. Meanwhile, corporate media started out minimising the pandemic, failed to timeously report on evolving information, and decided to go full end-of-times mode with the big black pulsing coronavirus in the background and a permanent death ticker.

Unless suffering a complete breakdown in the ability to empathise, I don't know why anyone would have difficulty understanding why someone else would watch John Campbell's YouTube channel, even if they don't like it themselves. It's baffling.

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." ~C.S. Lewis

He also did that with his "Plan B" move back at the start of December and masks at the end of November. A few restrictions came in but still hospitality was open as normal, full crowds at sporting and music fixtures

If vaccines hadn't come along Ireland would likely be stuck in an endless loop of lockdowns. Would you rather that over closed borders?

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,901 ✭✭✭Chris_5339762

The next variant will bring about a flurry of travel restrictions (testing before entry) for loads of countries worldwide when it shows up. Those will probably stay in place until data on whether it is more severe/transmissible/etc than Omicron is widely available.

I think that response is inevitable, annoying as it will be.

Any chance you have the lotto numbers as well Nostradamus?

  • Registered Users Posts: 110 ✭✭timmymagoo

If covid never happens trump would still be president

And Russia would not be doing what they are doing now

America and Europe by having restrictions and lockdowns have shown that we have weak leaders and Putin has realised he can do what he wants now. Nobody from the west will stop him.

china will soon move on Taiwan

the last 2 years have morally and financially broke the western world and now we could pay the ultimate price as liberty and democracy are under attack across the west.

In the 20 th century spanish flu killed 50 million, communism and socialism killed three times that .

all we have done the last 2 years is turn on each other, we and our leaders forgot their is very dangerous states who hate the wests way of life. We will pay for that stupidity

In fairness it's great to have the restrictions being moderated as the days get longer and hopefully the weather gets better!

However, it is sad to see that this country has no political leadership worth talking about.

The current leader is away and no doubt delighted he won't be responsible for reading us all these new rules in case it goes pear shaped!

But this rhetoric of "The Cabinet" has decided this and "The Cabinet" has decided that is a joke.

At least in UK they can blame Boris Johnson, but here there is no accountability in my view for any of this stuff. They think they are so clever!

And as for "Golfgate" I can't believe the Irish people have fallen for that one. They should have all been found in breach, they were breaking the regulations as far as the spirit of the restrictions were concerned. Two separate rooms! And they didn't all mix! They got there just deserts until that dopey judge intervened.

Did a google image search on her, and you can tell she is a completely unhinged lunatic.

The amount of posters here that are bothered about what other people are doing.

If some people want to continue wearing masks, social distance etc, so be it. Stop whinging about it

Restrictions will be gone so get on with your lives and so what if someone in the queue is wearing a mask, or in a car or where-ever, you have no idea of their circumstances

It's their choice and has no bearing on you all here. I cant wait to see what you'll all complain about after 28th .

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,812 ✭✭✭✭bear1

And that's all folks, government has signed off on the changes. Feb 28th is the last day and only in health settings we need masks.

What a great bit of news, we've really turned 180 in the last month.

I wonder does that mean we don't need to wear masks inside airports?

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,476 ✭✭✭✭bucketybuck

Personal choice is great isn't it.

Such a shame the Irish didn't realise that 2 years ago.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,901 ✭✭✭Chris_5339762

I'll ignore the snide comment - but I'd use the lotto numbers myself if I knew them.

We saw what happened with Omicron - countries cut themselves off to an extent even though its spread was inevitable. I still think the same thing will happen with the next variant.

Airports no, but airplanes yes as most airlines follow the international laws

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,448 ✭✭✭showpony1

They have said they aren't mandatory but they will advise them on public transport etc. giving enough leverage for people who want to cause a scene on the bus etc if someone sits beside them with no mask on to do so.

When will the Covid pass disappear for EU travel? That's the last real restriction.

They can cause a scene if they want...but that's all they can do.

if the family was freaked out last week, why will they not be next week? Nothing has actually changed other than some words on a piece of paper

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,058 ✭✭✭Quags

I think I read somewhere that the legislation for that expires on 31st June 2022

Edit: It seems they want to extend - https://ec.europa.eu/commission/presscorner/detail/en/ip_22_744

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,617 ✭✭✭CalamariFritti

I don't know its not really rational but I was never intent on starting a family flamewar. I didnt think I needed a booster either but took it for the same reason.

They probably wouldn't have freaked out last week but maybe 6 weeks ago they might have.

I guess its a wearing down of anxiety as they see other people going out and do stuff and they aren't dying either. I don't think its just the piece of paper thing but watching normalisation unfold and of course the piece of paper confirming the same. Its a bit of everything.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,842 ✭✭✭Don't Chute!

Oh the irony! I wonder how many of the people you mention who will keep wearing masks are the very people who were the self appointed Covid Police during this thing? Self righteously telling everyone else what to do and when to do it. Oh and as far as I can see most people here are saying they’ve no problem with people wearing masks they just don’t want to be forced into doing so themselves. But then again you knew all that didn’t you?

There is a strong possibility that his advice to take vitamin D saved more lives than lockdown in Ireland ;). He is a good, worth listening to from time to time.

When there is no medical or health justification for it. Hold on a second…that is already the case…

The real answer is when an EU love affair with Big Pharma comes to an end.

No. There isn't. I, and most of the population haven't heard of him. He's a nobody.

Well, he has 2.23m subscribers. That is almost half the population of Ireland. Surely he must have gotten to some of them with his advice.
