Boards: "We need to let people make their own decisions regarding Covid and let the rest of us get on with life."

RTE suggests 'people' wear masks in the studio.

'People' think that's fair enough and wear masks.

    Boards: "Grrr. *shakes fist*"

Management at a hotel close by notified all staff (by text) they had to wear masks last week. In order to make the make their imbeciles customers feel all safe, should just stay at home.

Too simplistic, the whole audience bar none were wearing black facemasks. It's weird.

  • Registered Users Posts: 28,860 ✭✭✭✭_Kaiser_

It's clear that the audience were told they'd have to wear one. As Red suggests, the demographic that would attend the LLS are the same who probably were very worried by the constant coverage and scaremongering by RTE over the last 2 years- no doubt stoked by the increased revenue from HSE advertising (considering the constant crying about how underfunded they are).

Still, those people made the choice to sit in the audience anyway so fair enough.

The science is agreed, trust the science....

A senior epidemiologist who advised the government during the coronavirus pandemic claims he was told to "correct" his views after he criticised what he thought was an "implausible" graph shown at an official briefing.

interesting , another person silenced who was shut down by officaldom. This was 25years advising the government...then his views are no good.

ever notice the people shut-up or discredited for disagreeing with the official covid-handling were all fine people in good standing previously.

In Ireland, even the much maligned Dolores Cahill was highly thought of.

    funny that isn't it.

odd one this. charges were for assaulting a garda , surely cut and dry one. Hardly in the garda/s interest to let an assault go.

But now dropped, if I was suspicious - which I am - you'd wonder if the charges were just there to discredit the fella.

Gardai have withdrawn a charge that well known anti-vaccine activist, Antonio Mureddu allegedly assaulted a Garda last Summer.

At Ennis District Court, Sgt Louis Moloney told Judge Mary Larkin the case against Mr Mureddu (44) of Headford Arms Hotel, Headford, Co Galway was being withdrawn by the State.

With over 90% of the population that submitted voluntarily to 2 doses of a genetic experiment (and a large majority even 3 doses despite having the proof that you could get infected) ; with the vast majority still following all the safety precaution (social distancing, mask wearing, hand sanitizing) implanted during the past 2 years, despite it was demonstrated that it doesn't make any difference ; with the spike in "sudden", "unexpected" death/illness, but there is no correlation it must be the global warming, they won't need to extend the emergency power: coming next winter or the next variant of interest everybody will queue up to roll up their sleeve and get as many doses of whatever they will tell them to get injected with in order to be again #inthistogether.

"Control" is very much still alive, because the majority have the necessity to be controlled and told what to do.

On that topic, has anybody got the actual wording as to whether ALL of the Emergency Provisions of Sec 31A of the 1947 Health Acts have been removed.

Legally, has it been confirmed that Ireland has returned fully to pre 2019 legal status ?

    If not,then why ?

That is a very pertinent, and unusually insightful article.

It references the United Kingdom's descent into collective Covid-19 insanity, which Ireland and it's strickingly similar Expert Advisory bodies and Government, soon became enamoured with.

I'll head out and buy this lad's book ASAP,just in case some Government Minister advocates it's mass burning ! 👹

     The  Health Act  1947 (Section 31A - Temporary Restrictions) (Covid-19) Regulations 2021 (S.I. No. 168 of 2021) are revoked.

Exactly. They didn't have to do it. Freedom of choice. Just as a lot of people wanted here...yet still give off about it.

I’m sorry but I simply cannot accept that every single member of that audience CHOSE to wear a mask. And that they all seemed to be black masks. It looks to me like they were handed out masks and told they had to wear them. If so that’s not “freedom of choice”. It is just not possible that that many people chose to wear masks, no way.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,583 ✭✭✭Penfailed

They had the choice to wear them or go home. That is freedom of choice. Why that pisses you off so much, I don't know. Why were you even watching the fúcking Late Late anyway?! It's shíte!

Maybe it's a rule for entering the RTE studio ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,842 ✭✭✭Don't Chute!

So you’re accepting that RTÉ wanted them to wear masks then? That was my original point. What justification is there for that? Oh and I was just flicking around and saw this, I wasn’t watching the fcuking thing.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,583 ✭✭✭Penfailed

I never said otherwise. That was another poster. It's over. Let it go. If RTE want to enforce the wearing of facemasks on a programme you don't even watch gets your blood up, you should evaluate your thought process.

I’m just asking the question why RTÉ who have been pumping out the fear and intimidation since the start are still doing so. What justification have they got for it? Your attitude is the typical Irish attitude of “ah sure it is what it is these guys are the authorities, they know best”.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,858 ✭✭✭growleaves

It's clear that passive news media consumption exercises a kind of hypnotism over many people.

There are posters on this site who went, in the space of five days, from demanding the Canadian government shoot unarmed protestors to flying blue and yellow flags and accusing indifferent people of being Putin-sympathisers.

In practice any obsession can be put down and a new one picked up at any moment and it doesn't matter what it is. That is not a stable set-up and is a further sign that a clear-headed person should be wary of going along with whatever the current narrative is.

It's the massive downside of social media and 24/7 news coverage. A lot of people jump from crusade to crusade based only on what the consensus on their feeds and the clickbait headlines are rather than them actually having particular feelings on it themselves.

Irish people love to be loved and validated by others, not just at home but particularly by those abroad. It's why we soak up the worst of these crusades and increasingly try to copy/paste primarily American social/cultural/racial issues into a society where it has absolutely no place - namely ours!

A friend of mine put a comment in our group chat the other day about him walking through Dublin city centre the other night and seeing a massive queue near the GPO. He thought it was something to do with Ukraine, but no, apparently it was people feeding the homeless. He was pissed off - as he put it "people will protest about issues outside of the country, but do f-all about local issues".

He's not wrong, and neither are you.

Claire Byrne asking Minister Donnelly if he's concerned about rising numbers, any plans to re-introduce legal requirement to wear masks. She can't let go

This is so true - could be the 11th commandment at this stage,.

this a a huge national failing from the plebs on the street to the highest office in the dail - it makes us weak and easy to manipulate.

No, my attitude is that I really couldn't give a shíte about the Late Late Show and it has absolutely no effect on me.

I see a bit of a spike happening in the hospital/ICU figures again according to the COVID hub, also despite PCR testing now only being open to a small proportion of the population the positive numbers are still around the 4,000 mark. Anybody with insight as to why this is? A double omicron peak brought on by less mask wearing is my guess

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,556 ✭✭✭Micky 32

The rise is happening in the UK also. I expect this thread and the other one will be hopping very soon 😫

    However according to Donnelly :

“Minister Donnelly said he said he is not concerned

about the trends in terms of the population.

"The ongoing advice I have from public health is

that while the numbers are high, the total amount

of severe illness in the country is still low.

"The public health advice I have, is they are not

    flagging concerns,”

HSE saying trends are broadly positive and there are reports of outbreaks in a number of hospitals. As others have commented NPHET expected this to happen, with the relaxation and disappearance of restrictions. COVID has been downgraded to being considered as alarming as flu' cases, not surprising as we now have antivirals in the toolbox.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,851 ✭✭✭✭average_runner

A soike was expected sure, we removed masks so viruses of all types would spread, flu is on the rise also.

We got covid this week, like a bad hangover/flu. Give it a few days and be grand

Am I misremembering or did Delta spike twice as well? Yeah the UK had their second Delta spike last August, I recall a lot of Europe had spikes around the same time as us

I'm not worried but it's an interesting trend I think, the nerd inside me is actually kinda excited to see what the next variant will be, if there even is one

And much better to read about COVID these days than Ukraine I think we can all agree
