Oh sorry in my head they called everyone through to stage 2. I haven’t heard of anyone else getting called to stage 2. Hopefully you’ll hear soon

  • Registered Users Posts: 6 Monkeyknowsbest

    Hopefully thanks @crinkley

Did you not getting something similar to the message I got?

  • Registered Users Posts: 852 ✭✭✭crinkley

I did yeah just totally forgot, maybe they’ll call more to stage 2 when they get to batch 3 or 4 for stage 3. Hopefully you won’t be waiting too long

I logged into the Zoom link sent by PAS this afternoon so that a. I knew it would work on the day and b. I wouldn't accidentally be admitted into someone's interview. According to the pop-up, Batch 1.2 interviews are running from Monday 24th January to Friday 4th February, and at least two boards are operating.

They called people for the Irish language stream but other than that it seems that they've ony called for those three counties. I haven't picked any of those counties and feel the entire application process may have been a complete waste of my time.

I can understand that the vast majority of AP assignments will be in Dublin but I still reckon a lot of people outside of those three counties are feeling the same as me.

Yeah it can be frustrating but to be fair to them they did say in the information booklet very few appointment would be made outside of dublin. It’s the reason I picked dublin this time instead of two counties down the west like the 2020 comp. Happy to put up with it for 2 years and then hopefully get moved.

id recommend keeping an eye on the 2021 comp pages and seeing how their regional recruitment is going because only when that is exhausted or near to it will there be any chance of getting called

@Conqueror thanks for that update. Im away the 11 February would love to get the results then and really be able to celebrate or drink to get over it lol

I am 'enjoying' my weekend with that Strategic Analysis Exercise as well. Mine is due 48 hours before the interview. I am not even sure if I am doing it right. But sure, I will find out soon enough.

Yeah when I got mine I picked the topic straight away, I’m project managing something within the same sphere so thought this would be perfect. I only really buckled down today and it’s not going as well as I had planned! I’m hoping it comes together better tomorrow

Is it very clear from the brief what has to be done? Never worked in a policy area myself, finding it hard to imagine what would be asked of this exercise!

Best of luck! I'm sure with more time everything will come together for you.

Maybe it’s because I work in policy it’s difficult to get what would normally be a 10 page brief down to what is expected. There’s a lot of experience and training to be undone

Finished in top 500 OOM. Was excited initially but having picked tiny counties, should I stop expecting anything from this competition or am I being silly? I'm currently public service so I'm aware of how it can go. I've come 2nd in 5 public competitions in 6 months (no offer) so trying to assess all these panels and mild possibilities without letting my confidence completely fall apart. I really want to get into the civil service and this would be the only way in I suppose.

Has there even been a year where they only recruited in 3 counties? I'd assume they wouldn't scrape nationwide only to have planned to recruit from 3 counties like this?

If you go and have a look at the 2018 and 2020 AP Competition on Boards, you'll get a lot of information on the different counties being assigned the AP position. If I were you I wouldn't lose hope yet, this comp runs 2 years from first appointment so you are looking at late 2023 when this expires. When you get called if you are placed at the top of the panel, there is still a chance of being placed.

I was hoping to get my brief today, was excited to see a message, but it was just for the interview board members.

It looks like I won't be getting 10 days before my interview to do start on the report.

Can I ask those who did the analysis exercise, are you expected to base your report solely on the policy documents or do you have to come up with original suggestions? Sorry for silliness of the question, I've never written a policy report before. TA

I would contact them if your interview is next Tuesday or Wednesday because it would seem unfair to have to hand up your paper the morning of your interview as you have 7 days to complete it.

Just take this time to really drum in the interview examples they count for me of your final mark

I wish I could change county at this stage 😂 I would gladly move to another county.

Best of luck with the interview!

You may get it tomorrow. I got mine 9 days before the interview. I have 7 days to prepare the report, which is due to be submitted 48 hours before the interview.

  • Registered Users Posts: 308 ✭✭FenFlynn

Got my brief this morning, same as you. Now onto the research part.

Anyone know if you’re allowed speaker notes on your slides?

  • Registered Users Posts: 5 Palante

Yes you are. Can make the screen sharing awkward though!

On a separate note I'm wondering if anyone already on the panel has heard about their placement yet?

  • Registered Users Posts: 852 ✭✭✭crinkley

Thanks a million, my laptop is connected to two screens and thats how I manage it when giving presentations at work, just have to make sure to share the right screen which can sometimes go wrong

Is 100% of the marks given to the interview, or does the application form or qualifications etc get marks also?

Is there any difference between the interview for the APH position and the AP position? If so, what is the difference? (I'm doing the former/APH)

I've been told there will be 500 marks available in the interview, which will last 45 minutes, distributed as follows:

Leadership (100 Marks); Interpersonal and Communication Skills (100 Marks); Analysis and Decision-making (100 Marks); Management and Delivery of Results & Drive and Commitment (100 Marks); Specialist Knowledge, Expertise & Self Development (100 Marks).

    Any additional advice?

Your form got you this far, all points out of the 500 are for your performance at interview (during which you can of course lean heavily on your form if the questions you are asked suit!)
