Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Outdoor dining in Mitchelstown

    Hi

My boyfriend and I will be in Mitchelstown for one night in a couple of weeks' time. Bearing in mind the continued restrictions on indoor dining, I've been looking online to see what options there are in Mitchelstown itself (or the surrounding area) for dinner on a Saturday evening.

I've seen a few places mentioned, such as the Market Place Restaurant and the Hunter's Rest, but if anyone has any recommendations, I would be delighted to read them. Also, if there's anywhere that can be booked in advance, it would be great! :D

    Thank you :)

I don't know if you've been to Mitchelstown yet, but here's some info.

Market Place has decent outdoor seating. According to their facebook page, the seating area is open Thurs-Sun from 12pm until close, I thought that the food was ok when I was there last yr. I'm not sure if the Hunter's Rest is doing outdoor dining, might be takeaway only, decent food. Same for Galileos. Firgrove may be worth looking into as the food is grand I've found, they're doing takeaway but I don't know about outdoor dining. I would avoid the Clongibbon House (across from the Market Place at the end of the square) due to bad complaints in the past, though they may have improved since. Same can be said for the Ramble Inn (to be fair the RI were good for serving food to hungover people attending Indiependence music festival in the past, letting people charge their phones etc.). O'Callaghans would be a good spot for food and they've outdoor seating. I'm not really into dining much, and it's been a while since I've dined so things may have improved or or the opposite. Most places would reserve a table if you got in touch with them beforehand.

Cafés in Mitchelstown are Blueberries, Praline and the Town Coffee Co. I haven't been to Blueberries, but a friend who was there thought they were expensive enough, they seem to have nice food though. Praline (a pastry and chocolate café) has a good reputation for their baked goods (personally I like their cheesecake 😋), no lunch options since last year though. Town Coffee is a personal favourite, sound and knowledgeable barista staff, excellent coffee along with other lunch items and really good baked goods (their cruffins are popular), plus they got a McKenna award this year. Worth popping into if you've the time. Forgot to say that the latter 2 cafés have outdoor seating.

One other place I can think of outside of Mitchelstown is the Thactch n' Thyme (in Kildorrery, between Mitchelstown and Mallow) if you were in the area. If you'd like more details then I can add more.
