OK, on mobile I went to the Covid forum and opened the Vaccine Megathread. Landed on page 238 of 243. Clicked to jump to page 243. Pressed browser back button and it just jumped to the bottom of page 243. Clicked back again and went out of the thread altogether and back to the Covid forum page.

Checked on another thread there and same deal. Weird.

    No update from HQ today?

Doesn't appear to be and can't see any changes to report either.

I am really starting to wonder about the threads that are disappearing. Some of them are not at all controversial but they are just magically gone. For example there was a thread in the Gentlemans forum about "do you cry" which seems on my computers view to have simply disappeared. The threads on homophobia and sex escorts in After Hours are similarly just gone.

Are they actually gone or is it somehow just my view that is affected and the threads are really still there? I do not remember on the "old" version of this site seeing threads simply disappear that often at all. In the last few days I have seen more threads magically vanish than in all my years on boards before that.

Had a look there at the gentleman's forum and yep I can't see the thread you mention either, ditto for the AH ones. Maybe the AH ones were deleted by the mods for some reason? All I can tell you is I didn't deleted tGC one.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Could be an indexing problem. I worked on similar software before and during the nightly "reindexing" of threads and posts - some threads simply lost their valid index and disappeared from the forums in question.

So the thread was still there - in the database - but the new index was out of range for assignment to that forum and simply disappeared.

hmm - just did a google - and There seems to be two threads with the same title.. one from 2005 and one from July 2021... only one survived...

    https://www.boards.ie/discussion/286665/do-you-cry

    https://www.boards.ie/discussion/2058200414/do-you-cry

I wonder if their indexing/migration didn't expect any threads with the same title...

    “Roll it back”

The ability to search your own (and I presume other's) posts has been reduced to a handful of posts now.

This is on mobile, I couldn't do it at all when I changed to the desktop site.

    Like is now Thank! :)

Only the name of the button though so far

The issue is never the issue; the issue is always the revolution.

The Entryism process: 1) Demand access; 2) Demand accommodation; 3) Demand a seat at the table; 4) Demand to run the table; 5) Demand to run the institution; 6) Run the institution to produce more activists and policy until they run it into the ground.

Has it been confirmed that Odhran is working on getting a 'mark all threads read' button for individual forums?

Very good, I've just given you your 3rd thank.

Please enjoy you 3 thank and best of luck building some further thank

A thousand thank to those who consigned the like button to history.

Now if we could only see who thanked on mobile ...

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,984 ✭✭✭Pen Rua

The bold / unbolding of subscriptions is a great step forward, and now we have "thank" back - all we need now is our beloved :pac: to make us feel whole again.

Just realise ctrl + enter does not submit a post as it did before, which is annoying but consistent with the theme of more clicks.

I will concede I have adjusted to the new boards and can navigate okay, but nowhere near the ease we used to have. However, the traffic is still down. Another lunch time I return to with posts in two threads, as opposed to the dozen which would have been busy pre-change over.

And I don't think automatically subbing to a thread once you post in it has been added?

[quote]And I don't think automatically subbing to a thread once you post in it has been added?[/quote]

Yeah, I've raised this as part of the notifications issue, which for me is the biggest hindrance to navigating the site still. Don't think there's been any update on that.

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,101 ✭✭✭✭Caranica

Automatically subscribing to threads you posted in was an option last time. Please don't make it compulsory!!

That seems to be a good theory. I checked a handful of other threads I know to have gone missing too - and in all cases there are threads with the same title from a few years ago.

Looks like whatever indexing they are doing boards-side is using the thread title as some kind of primary key and so earlier threads are taking precedent.

Whether the later threads are gone - or still in the date base - is anyone's guess. I will cross post this over to the bugs thread.

Is this not what happens when you tick:

"Notify me when people comment on discussions I've participated in"

It certainly was working for me.

I've now turned it off because you can't later unsubscribe from an individual thread you posted in.

I've just deleted a number of bickering, off-topic posts as well as a few personal posts about Odhran's LinkedIn. Come on guys, this is the thread for the new site, nothing else. We will have a site update with some important information soon. Sorry for the radio silence yesterday.

  • Registered Users Posts: 40,405 ✭✭✭✭ohnonotgmail

but then you get a notification for every single post that is made in those threads. nobody wants that.

In the meantime I see that the Thanks button is back which is great.

@coffee_cake @G_R you can have multiple choices in a poll, just click on 'Add another poll option' under the first option box and keep going until you haver the amount of options that you want. This works the same on mobile and desktop

@Tom Mann Centuria re stickies on the homepage on mobile, you can dismiss these from your HP view once you have read them or if they are not relevant to you. Click on the cog icon next to the sticky and choose Dismiss. We're looking at putting a 'Dismiss' button on these to make it clearer how to use it.

@[Deleted User] threads are not being routinely deleted but that is an interesting theory about the thread titles. I was going to suggest that threads you post in are no longer automatically followed but the thread titles seem more likely now if they are not visible in forum view either. We'll forward this to be looked into.

Thanks niamh I meant more that a voter could select multiple options. At the moment seems its one only

Ah right, I get you. I'll ask about it.

Is this new cog in the bottom right of the screen for privacy and security permanent?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,120 ✭✭✭Hippodrome Song Owl

Is that not what happened on the old site? Or was it just a single notification of new posts in the thread? I can't remember clearly - just that it was great to be able to unsubscribe from an individual thread. It's certainly very annoying to have notification of every new comment in threads you have lost interest in - that's why I've turned it off altogether.

  • Registered Users Posts: 40,405 ✭✭✭✭ohnonotgmail

it was just a single notification that a thread had new posts.

    @Boards.ie: Niamh

100% sure it is nothing to do with follow threads. Relevant notes here:

    1) The thread can not be seen in forum view either

    2) I have notifications from last week for "You were mentioned in this thread" which when I click them the link is broken / dead to that thread.

    3) The threads in question still show in a google search (for now, probably not for long) and are also broken when you click on them.

    4) The threads show up nowhere using the search function inside boards either (although generally the search function appears buggered too).

So either the thread has been entirely deleted, or the indexing to the thread has been invalidated somehow.

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 7,401 Mod ✭✭✭✭pleasant Co.

Yeah, one notification until you revisited the site - which really was an efficient method. Having 20+ notifications from a busy thread just means I'll probably miss that 1 notification from a quieter thread.

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,101 ✭✭✭✭Caranica

@Boards.ie: Niamh have just seen the sad news. No update yesterday makes sense now. Take care!

Rich Text Editor. To edit a paragraph's style, hit tab to get to the paragraph menu. From there you will be able to pick one style. Nothing defaults to paragraph. An inline formatting menu will show up when you select text. Hit tab to get into that menu. Some elements, such as rich link embeds, images, loading indicators, and error messages may get inserted into the editor. You may navigate to these using the arrow keys inside of the editor and delete them with the delete or backspace key.
