Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

At least Redbull get the fastest lap.

Charles, that's a shame. He gave to much space for Hamilton, then ended too wide.

Can't believe how soft the penalty was for Hamilton, Leclerc star of the show today how he managed to keep that Ferrari out front for so long is beyond me

Good man Perez stopping Lewis getting a point for fastest lap. Small consolation though.

No point for it. Just kept it away from Merc and Hamilton.

well suppose he did get a 10 second penalty and still win it.

    And Hamilton knew it too.

It was that or end up like Verstappen.

No issue when he wins fair and square, but this is a totally undeserved victory.

Ah bollocks. Great race by LeClerc.

He was probably worried about the opening lap incident between Lewis and max.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,778 ✭✭✭SureYWouldntYa

No he didnt say that, he said you cant stick your nose in at Copse, totally different

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,303 ✭✭✭SCOOP 64

Good to see Ferrari back in it.

    Cheating pays

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,573 ✭✭✭JeffKenna

If this race was anywhere bar England he'd surely get booed on the podium after that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,543 ✭✭✭dublinman1990

Wow. I wonder how Max is feeling right now if he is watching the outcome of the race in the hospital near Silverstone.

I'll bet he's feeling pretty pissed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,330 ✭✭✭✭namloc1980

Take out your rival and win. People used to freak out about Schumacher over stuff like that

  • Site Banned Posts: 12,341 ✭✭✭✭Faugheen

It's a crap way for him to win a race. He knew lap 1 was critical and made an error that has been hugely beneficial for him in the fight for the title. He doesn't win that race with Max on the track.

This year already he's had some huge things go his way. He's in the title race but Max is the better driver this year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,382 ✭✭✭petes

I enjoyed the race but taking someone out of the race and getting a poor penalty is a joke, if you are going to penalise someone that means you think they were wrong, left a sour taste that did!

There is no difference today in what happened comparing incidents of Senna v Frost (Suzuka) Schumacher and Villeneuve at Jerez '97 were Schumacher put himself out of the race then was demoted to last place in the Championship all points stripped.

I'm absolutely in shock with the decision of F1 Stewards. When I heard it I said Hamilton has won the race.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,893 ✭✭✭Hijpo

If you are a racing fan you cannot be content with that outcome.

A driver was found guilty of an infringement that put their race and championship rival into a wall and out of the race. That same driver then gets the second least penalising penalty available and wins the race.

If the FIA can be content with that then the sport is extremely misguided.

It's actually a sad day for the sport.

Max has the better car, it's obvious, any discussion about who's a better driver can never be answered unless they race the same car, which is ofc very unfortunate, as it will never happen in modern F1.

Can’t believe Hamilton only got 10 secs for that

    Ms

Well that ended been probably the most boring Britsh GP ever. Lewis did not deserve to win that. The penalty he got for taking Max out was far to lenient and should have been a stop go penalty.

Charles deserved to win that race and if Lewis was anyway sportman like he would give it to Charles.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

This looks all a bit pretentious

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,880 ✭✭✭✭klose

Will there be any further potential penalties for Hamilton/Mercedes or is the case closed now that he got the 10 second penalty.?

The cynic in me thought they'd use perez to hold up Hamilton.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,330 ✭✭✭✭namloc1980

A joke of an outcome to be honest.

How much time did LeClerc loose with the engine cuts. Probably wouldn't have made a difference but a shame none the less.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,668 ✭✭✭quokula

Absolutely. The precedent now is that if you can’t beat your rival fairly, just put them in the hospital and take a slap on the wrist. Disgusting seeing the Neanderthals in the crowd cheering that, same sort of mentality as the thugs that mugged Lando at Wembley no doubt.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,451 ✭✭✭Sunny Dayz

Ordinarily I’m happy enough for Hamilton to get a home win in Silverstone. But seeing him celebrating is leaving such a bad taste in my mouth. Because of him his main rival went into the wall and is in hospital for tests and observation.

Wish LeClerc could have held him off, Ham didn’t deserve that win.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,099 ✭✭✭✭Busi_Girl08

Lewis is acting like he's won the championship.

  • Site Banned Posts: 12,341 ✭✭✭✭Faugheen

I very much remember Belgium 2014 and many people looking for excuses for Rosberg when he did the same thing to Hamilton.

I can agree it’s a crap way to win a race but to call it ‘cheating’ and all the other nonsense being spouted it’s hard to take anything that is said seriously.

One poster said drivers have been suspended for less, and that same poster continues to spout nonsense despite ignoring the challenge.

Its perfectly possible to agree with everything you have said while calling out the overdramatics for what they are.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,194 ✭✭✭McFly85

They've had the better car since Monaco - but there's not so much between them now. Straight line speed belonged to Merc this weekend and Max showed how dominant he is in corners. It will never be definitive but I firmly believe you see Max in a merc and it's a straightforward title for him.

How did Verstappen get voted third in driver of the day though 🤣

Here's Charles for the interview. And he wins Driver of the Day as well. Nice one Charles.

Ferrari fans are proud of you. 🙂

Well Hamilton needs to watch again, "fully along side him and he didn't leave me any room"

The Brits used to freak out when Schumacher took out rivals, but they're ok with it today.

It's been the Tom Cruise show ft Formula1. Ridiculous

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 56,710 ✭✭✭✭walshb

Cruise and Hamilton… if Carlsberg did insufferable!

  • Moderators, Home & Garden Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators, Regional East Moderators Posts: 12,603 Mod ✭✭✭✭2011

Im sure Max is pissed, but he is better at behaving like a professional than Hamilton (as well as being a better driver). That will stand to him in the end.

It was painfully obvious that Hamilton was in the wrong, but a 10 second penalty was insulting.

  • Moderators, Motoring & Transport Moderators Posts: 11,687 Mod ✭✭✭✭devnull

I do think that if someone is adjudged cause a crash that is so serious that it results in a red flag, the current rules are not fit for purpose.

Today, because the crash was so bad, Hamilton had the ability to change damaged parts that were a result of his actions. If the crash wasn't quite as bad, he would have actually been worse off had there been no red flag.

You really shouldn't be able to cause a crash, take someone out the race with major damage to the point it's unsafe to race anymore, then get a free change of the parts that were damaged because of your own actions. It really is nonsensical.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,382 ✭✭✭petes

Hamilton: 'fully along side him', no, no you weren't!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,668 ✭✭✭quokula

With his rival in the hospital, Red Bull having to devote much of their budget for the year to rebuilding that car, and the precedent set that he can take Max out at will whenever he’s being beaten and Toto will send a quick email to make it all better, he arguably has won the championship today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,303 ✭✭✭SCOOP 64

Well that puts it too bed Hamilton just explained it all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,456 ✭✭✭✭ednwireland

Brilliant race from Hamilton. As far as the verstappen incident Hamilton had to leave it in there at some point. next race that happens he's got the advantage. He was going to do that sooner or later. We seen it so many times in F1.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,330 ✭✭✭✭namloc1980

Hamilton absolutely spoofing there with his "fully alongside him" nonsense.
